The first half of 2013 flew by quickly enough for Philippine Prudential. It’s the Company’s 50th Year, after all, and much of what has transpired has served to keep our momentum going and to ensure that we are on the best route to our goal. Growth and expansion remains a priority for the Company. This has translated to opening more Sales Offices in major cities in Metro Manila, including the highly-economic area of Binondo. New opportunities to enhance our current portfolio continue to be seized, adding new products and benefits in the pipeline. Of major events, the Golden Anniversary Gala takes the spotlight, with MusicArtes, Inc., known for its acclaimed local staging of Madame Butterfly, mounting a musical especially for Philippine Prudential. In essence, the celebration afforded guests a window to the Company’s inspiring history, while giving thanks for the present and encouraging all to aim even higher for the future. That future we are eager to face is one where we are at the top tier of the life insurance industry. This year, we are being called to transform and welcome changes that can catalyze further growth and success. Part of this journey is learning to use the ‘new’ and ‘different’ toward betterment without compromising our time-tested values of prudence, integrity, trustworthiness, customer delight, teamwork, accountability and fear of God. The pace has been set, the standards raised, the plans laid out. What’s left of an exciting 2013 is still ours for the taking, so let the stories in the following pages inspire and motivate us all as we contrive to live by our commitment to protect the Filipino.

First Golden Heart Awards Held It was a night of sheen and glamour as Philippine Prudential recognized the top sales agents of its various Distribution Channels with a red-carpet event on February 12, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The Golden Heart Awards, named as such to honor the philanthropy of the Mercado family, gave guests exclusive entry into one of the Company’s most prestigious gatherings. Philippine Prudential’s very own Regional Head of Retail Marketing (South) Jeffrey A. Luspo hosted the A-List celebration alongside VJ-artist Nikki Gil. Despite the celebrity factor,

the spotlight remained on the actual VIPs of the event, as each agent enjoyed his or her moment to shine onstage during the awarding and parade of winners. An annual ceremony, the Golden Heart Awards is being positioned to be the most coveted honor in Philippine Prudential. It is meant to satisfy man’s highest need, that is, the need for a sense of achievement. Sales Agents vying for this recognition are therefore expected to meet strict performance standards and eligibility requirements.

Philippine Prudential 50th Anniversary An anniversary is a milestone for any enterprise, but fifty years in the business deserves a celebration beyond the usual fanfare. On February 18, Philippine Prudential hosted a grand affair at the Edsa Shangri-La Plaza, aptly commemorating five decades of being a wholly-Filipino life insurance provider in the country. In keeping with the theme, Company employees donned charming versions of the traditional Barong and Filipiniana, A beautiful medley of classic Filipino songs greeted guests at the entrance, courtesy of the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir. Prominent industry figures and respected government officials were also in attendance — an expression of support and congratulations for the many years that Philippine Prudential has fulfilled its commitment to protect the Filipino family. Among them were the Honorable Vida T. Chiong, Deputy Commissioner of the Insurance Commission of the Philippines (IC), and Mr. Antonio “Tito Tony” Meloto, Founder and Chairman of Gawad Kalinga (GK). His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III was unable to grace the event, but his encouraging Presidential Message more than made up for his absence. “Insurance companies hold vast potential for as an instrument of financial stability and empowerment,” the President said in his message, as read by Presidential Assistant on Climate Change Elisea G. Gozun. “May this event not only

commemorate your 50 years of corporate success, but also serve as a springboard for meeting the challenges of our increasingly competitive milieu. May you enhance your services further to the greater good of your clients and stakeholders.” This was affirmed by Philippine Prudential President and CEO Gregorio D. Mercado, likening the growth of the Company to members of a family who, “despite the differences in backgrounds and discipline… are willing to lift each other up, support one another, and work hard for the common good.” Mr. Mercado also gave due recognition to the entire Philippine Prudential team. The longest-serving employees, led by Chief Operations Officer Daniel D. Mercado III and Group Sales Head Elmer B. Baingan, earned special mention— and time onstage with celebrity hosts Edu Manzano and Kayla Rivera during the awarding of the plaques of recognition. Production outfit MusicArtes, Inc. provided the big finale, staging a musical specifically for Philippine Prudential to showcase the Company’s 50 Golden Years in the life insurance industry. Entitled “Gintong Alaala,” the piece came together thanks to the ingenious artistry of the cast and crew, comprised of theater veterans and up-and-coming artists. The show ended with an ensemble performance of the new Philippine Prudential Anthem: “Protectors of Your Dream.” Philippine Prudential TIMES
