MARYVILLE, Mo. — Fantastic Fido’s has moved and is offering the same great services and more at its new location, 2613 S. Main St.
Along with the same great boarding, grooming, training and retail, the facility now also offers a social-based day care, which allows the dogs to interact and play with one another in a safe environment.
The new facility has fenced-in areas behind it that offer running space for pups seeking to burn off a bit more energy.
“It’s excellent for dogs for socialization, and physical and mental stimulation,” Operations Manager Keli Morris said. “We’re excited that the socialbased day care is growing so quickly.”
The social-based day care can even be beneficial for behavior, because dogs who learn how to properly socialize in a pack are well behaved and happy. While the day care doesn’t make any promises, they do guarantee a dog will go home tired.
The day care is available Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. for drop-off and pickup between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m.
All dogs are required to complete an
interview the day before being accepted for day care. For more information or to sign up, call 660-800-5072.
Other services provided at the facility include several different training programs from Doggie Day School to boarding and training, which are done at the St Joseph facility. With several training programs available, there’s sure to be something for any age dog.
With boarding, there are several options, including cabins, doggie den, pup tents and VIP boarding. Dogs are boarded at the St. Joseph location and may be transported there by shuttle.

Additionally, Rogers pharmacists can administer immunizations, including for shingles, influenza, TDAP, pneumonia and the MCV (meningococcal) vaccine. Rogers Pharmacy employees are proud members of the community they live in and serve, and sends out a huge “thank-you” to their patients and the community for supporting them, a local small business.

MARYVILLE, Mo. — A vision 15 years in the making has not only come to fruition for Double B Development, but its maintenance-free living environment named Tranquility Court is thriving on the south end of Maryville with views of country living without ever leaving the city limits.
Local developers Bill and Bonnie Ingels — the “Bs” in Double B — currently have 14 of the 26 lots sold in Tranquility Court completed with one to start construction in late summer. Remaining lots are fully developed and ready to be built on.
“We’re off and running and there is a lot of interest,” Bill said. “We’re part of the silver tsunami. It’s an era we’re going through and this project and product fits with that demographic.”
There have been other projects in the area that have ventured into the maintenance-free home arena, but Double B has a successful formula that makes it the area’s top choice.
“What we’ve tried to do is keep it very simple,” Bill said. “The homeowner owns the real estate just like they would if they owned a house anywhere else in Maryville. The difference is that we have the homeowners association that takes care of the outside maintenance in regards to lawn care (fertilization and mowing) and even the water bill for the sprinkler system. The homeowners association also takes care of the snow removal and trash pickup.
“If you’re someone that
travels during the winter like us you can just lock the door and leave because someone is going to plow your drive and scoop your sidewalk, there is probably even a neighbor who will check on your house from time to time.”
The homes in Tranquility Court have multiple features to make living much easier and accessible. From its zero entry into the structure from the garage and front door to wider doors, minimal hallways and an open concept, these homes have all the con-
venience one needs. Each home can be custom designed and multiple interior features can be added, including a basement; however, to maintain a consistent character throughout the community, all exterior appearances such as stone, stucco, siding, window types and roof pitches are kept the same.
“We’re very flexible as to floor plans and other finishes,” Bill said. “The size can be whatever the buyer wants it to be with a minimum of 1,500 square feet.” Besides beautiful homes, Double B Development has commercial property opportunities available with Main Street frontage as well as other residential properties. To drive by and look at the beautiful neighborhood off of South Main Street, go west on Carefree to Tranquility Court. For more information on Tranquility Court, or any of the other projects being undertaken by Double B Development, contact Bill Ingels at 660-373-0367.

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Nodaway County Services helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities reach their fullest potential to live the life they want and ensure they are treated with dignity, respect and compassion. And in that effort, the organization, located at 122 E. Lieber St., focuses on five programs, to help not only their clients, but the community as well.
“I don’t know if everybody knows all the lines of service that we have here,” Julie Godsey, NCS HR manager, said. “... The ultimate goal of these programs is for the individuals we support to live their best lives.
Programs
Community Living empowers individuals to live the life they choose.
NCS supports 30-plus individuals between three group homes and seven independent supported living locations. Supports include community activities, daily house tasks, meal planning and prepping, and medical assistance.
Service Coordination improves the quality of life for others through planning, advocating, linking and monitoring. NCS has provided case management services to individuals in seven counties
Behavior Services provides individualized support to reduce challenging behaviors and help individuals live their best quality of life by building skills socially significant to them.
Support Employment focuses on inclusive employment providing customized pathways to develop job skills and identify real work at a competitive wage for people with developmental disabilities.
“We provide a job coach,” Godsey said. “... then we look for businesses in town that will help us do supported employment. We do work with a few businesses here in town and it’s great.”
NCS takes clients through all the steps of employment from resumes and interviews to what to wear and how to talk to their manager.
Community Support empowers and promotes independent living through skill development and building community connections. “We use our community resources and try and get them integrated into the community, so they’re able to do that on their own,” Godsey said, noting that they help clients to do things as independently as possible, such as going to buy coffee at The Perk or make their way to the
beach at Mozingo Lake Recreation Park. In an effort to offer more for their clients, the organization is amid construction of a new building across Lieber Street.
The new facility will be dedicated to providing help for clients, whether teaching them how to cook something or manage a kitchen to how to do laundry, the new building will offer space for those types of activities as well as larger group events and meetings.
“We have a lot of weekly activities, at least one a week if not more. … and sometimes they want to invite their friends or family. As a company, we like to get together a couple times a year and do stuff, so that’ll help with having to find somewhere to rent,” Godsey said.
Finally, and perhaps most excitingly, the nonprofit is trying to give back to the community, by way of donating $250,000 worth of inclusive playground equipment to the Sisson-Eek Park on Lincoln Street. The park is under construction now, but plans to open on July 9 after a ribbon cutting scheduled for 4 p.m.
“We’ve got a lot of fun stuff that’s gonna happen,” Godsey said. Learn more about Nodaway County Services by visiting them online at aghncs.org.
spending anything other than gas on their car for the first six months anyway,” Hill said. “That’s our goal.”
MARYVILLE, Mo. — Inventory levels are back to pre-pandemic levels offering the area’s largest new car and used car inventory. Tri-State Ford in Maryville has Mopar- and Fordcertified senior master techs that will keep your vehicle running smooth and safe. It has Quick Lane Service, with the area’s largest selection of name brand tires for any make. Plus, Tri-State has a price-match guarantee. And owners Todd and Rusty Hill are in the stores daily to make sure your experience is top notch.
“About 70 percent of our customer base has bought from us before. It just tells you that our salespeople are doing a good job, and we’re taking care of guests in the service department after the sale,” said Tri-State Ford owner Todd Hill.
Tri-State’s dependability starts even before its customers drive away in their newly purchased automobiles. While other dealerships do not spend time reconditioning used cars, TriState performs a 138-point inspection on all its used cars to ensure customers will not have maintenance issues as soon as they buy their vehicles. Used cars from Tri-State even come with at least a 3-month warranty.
“I don’t want my customers
When customers do need maintenance, Tri-State has them covered. Quick Lane services all cars, regardless of make and model. Its six factory-certified technicians at Tri-State Ford and Tri-State Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM specialize in everything automotive except bodywork. If you are too busy to come in, Tri-State offers a free pickup and delivery service for customers, plus they’ll check for and do your recalls.
“We’re constantly reinvesting in our people in training,” Hill said. “We believe happy employees make happy customers. We like to see them grow.”
Tri-State has made a name for itself, being listed as a Ford President’s Award winner nine times, four of which were consecutive. Less than one percent of all Ford dealers earn the prize, Hill said. Additionally, Hill was formerly the Missouri Time Dealer of the year and past chairman of the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association.
This recognition has led to customers coming from more than 500 miles away, which means, Hill said, the dealership has “good selection, good reputation, (and) good online presence.”
Hill said an increasing amount of his customers start their car research digitally — some even complete the
entire transaction online.
Hill said about 72 percent of the new vehicles Tri-State sells are customordered and delivered to the customer within hours of arrival.
You can literally buy a car, do financing and arrange delivery, all from the Tri-State websites, tristatefordmaryville.com or tristatechryslerdodgejeepram.com.
This process makes buying a car easier for the customer. If the customer requires, the dealership can deliver their vehicle straight to their home. Tri-State has delivered cars across the United States to locations such as California, Florida and New York.
As for the vehicles Tri-State is selling, Hill is excited about various Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM products.
According to Hill, the dealership gives back to the community that supports it. Tri-State is a major sponsor of the Nodaway County Fair, The Spoofhounds, Bearcats and many other local sports teams, golf tournaments, the Hopkins Picnic and many other events. It has supported over 77 $1,000 scholarships for area FFA students.
Tri-State is open for sales from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Quick Lane is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
MARYVILLE, Mo. —
For over 30 years Coenen Electric has been providing high quality electrical services for residential customers as well as commercial and industrial businesses.
In business in Maryville since 1990, Coenen Electric is a licensed, fully insured electrical contracting company that offers a wide range of services from residential to commercial to industrial. The electricians at Coenen Electric believe that no job is too big or too small. These professionals can tackle the electrical needs of nearly any project one can imagine from complex industrial and commercial sites to tackling electrical needs of older homes, new homes and even something as small as installing a ceiling fan.
In 1996, owners Gary and Becky Coenen recognized the needs and desires of their customers to purchase quality lighting items locally, and the couple opened up Personal Touch Lighting at 702 S. Main St., which is now the home base for Coenen Enterprises Inc., encompassing both businesses. The Coenens pride themselves on quick service and a high quality of work at a reasonable price with loyal employees and electricians.
Although the company does a great deal of work out of town, they always try to have at least one employee in town to take care of any emergency calls that come in. Coenen Electric is licensed in 16 different cities throughout Missouri and Iowa.
According to Becky Coenen, the major projects underway currently are: Ridgeview Estates 60 unit apartments (Raymore, Missouri); Blue Hills 45 unit apartments Townhomes (Kansas City); Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office fire alarm; Andrew County Nursing Home; City of Tarkio lift station generators; Northwood Terraces 128 unit rehab (St. Joseph); and many other jobs. Some of the other services offered by Coenen Electric include lighting installation, electrical wiring, service parking lot lighting installation and repair, grain bins, leg systems, 3-phase power inverters, automated bin fan and leg system controls. Automated grain bins have become a specialty of Coenen Electric over the last few years including the installation of leg systems, 3-phase power inverters and automated bin fan controls. Coenen Electric has developed a great reputation for the quality of their work in this area and is looked upon as a leader in the in-
dustry as they have completed four large automated grain bins this year alone on top of all the other projects.
“Agriculture is huge in this area, and the farmers are looking for every angle to cut their input costs and make their systems simpler and easier to use,” Gary Coenen said. “That’s where we come in to help with the automation to their storage systems.” Coenen is also an authorized dealer and service company for Kohler and Cummins Whole House Backup Generators. Whole House generators are affordable and can be sized for any situation. The electricians from Coenen can install and service residential and commercial generators. In addition to their professional electricians, Coenen Enterprises has a professional sales staff of Becky Coenen and Mackenzie Adamson that will take your call and assist you in any of your lighting and electrical needs.
The Personal Touch Lighting showroom is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. If those hours aren’t convenient for customers, the staff will also offer after-hours appointments with 24-hour notice. For customers looking to purchase lighting fixtures and accessories, check out all the
items available on their website at personaltouchlighting.com.
After looking through the site, if you need pricing or have any questions, please feel free to call the staff who will be happy to help answer your questions. In addition to the sales staff, Coenen’s electricians are people you can depend on, from jobs in schools, religious organizations, nursing homes and water treatment plants or providing lighting accessories for your home. Coenen Enterprises also installs fire alarm systems, along with certified inspection, and provides a monitoring company to monitor your fire alarm or security system.
Coenen Enterprises is a company that prides itself in its work and helping to make the community a better place. “We could not do any of this without great employees,” Gary Coenen said. “We feel like we have the best with Matt Diggs, Trever Schafer, Brad Schieber, Travis Reed and Mackenzie Adamson.”

Nucor understands strength.
As a steel manufacturer, the company forges steel and during the past few years, it has forged bonds with local youths. Through its support for a local group of students, it has built a trusted partnership and shared it with others within the Nucor family.
Last year, the company purchased a trailer for Spoofy Beans, a student-run business managed by the 108 Classroom at Maryville High School. The class, run by sisters Candace and Alexis Boeh, helps to provide a business learning opportunity for youths who need just a bit more care and attention. The Boehs focus on the importance of being an active member of society and emphasize the social and emotional impact of having a purpose.
Each month, the students bring their business acumen, and new trailer, to serve employees at Nucor.
“We look for opportunities to have impact in our community,” Maryville Plant Manager Jack Morris said, continuing that it has been a great opportunity not only for

the students, but also the team of 103 who manufacture cold finished steel bar, bright basic wire and corrugated metal fasteners. “It’s been a wonderful relationship for sure. It’s also been great to watch our team and how they’ve responded to having the kids here. It’s really popular.”
Not only is it a favorite day of the month for the students and employees, this innovative fusion with community also helped provide the students with the experience of a lifetime. Last year, Spoofy Beans also had the opportunity to serve coffee to Nucor leaders from all over the
country and beyond during a division meeting held here in town.
Catching the eye of Plant Manager Bernie Kilcullen from St. Louis Cold Drawn — a Nucor company that produces cold-finished steel bars for various industries — the Spoofy Beans project sparked an idea.
“We were so inspired by them and their strength and willingness to get out into the community and serve that I thought it would be great for them to come and meet our team in St. Louis,” he said.
And the company financed the entire trip, in-
cluding visiting local sights and their stay.
Thanks to Morris — who has been with the company for nearly 30 years — Jenny Price and Sales Supervisor Benjamin Lipiec, the group also had a ride.
“To see the kids come out of their comfort zone and try new experiences, it was truly humbling,” Lipiec said. “We take for granted how small things can inspire someone with little to no effort. I hope we can continue this and get the kids to a Nucor location each year.”
Nucor’s dedicated employees are focused every day on crafting the bestquality steel products possible and one day a month they shift their focus for a small time to helping local students learn about business and grow their skills, which also helps the community.
“... to see a kid smile, that’s an investment in the community,” Morris said. “All of our teammates live in this community and we plan to be here for a long time to come, so anything we can do to improve the overall community is a great thing.”
MARYVILLE, Mo. — What started out as a muffler and exhaust shop over 20 years ago has evolved into just about a one-stop shop for all of your vehicle’s needs and much more.
When James Beemer first opened the business in 2002 it was strictly a shop that specialized in automotive exhaust, but after a few years the business expanded into automotive repairs. It wasn’t long after that Beemer’s Muffler Center also purchased Saye Machine Shop in 2006 and moved to its present location at 1305 E. First St.
Don’t let the name fool you as Beemer’s Muffler Center and Saye Machine Shop provide a host of services for automobiles. Besides mufflers, Beemer’s offers exhaust repairs, custom exhaust, brakes, front end, shocks, hitches, tire service, motor vehicle inspections, oil changes, tune-ups and much more. In addition to automotive services, Beemer’s also offers machining, agricultural repairs and steel fabrication. The business has also built numerous items for local and state government agencies.
In 2013 the business expanded again as James and his son, Dakota Beemer, opened what has become Beemer Accessories & Glass. This shop, located at 1403 E. First St. has proudly been serving the area and beyond as a trust-
ed provider of top-tier automotive enhancements and customizations. Some of the commonly requested services that Beemer’s offers are window tinting, auto glass installation and truck accessory enhancements. They also offer more specialized services such as wheel and tire upgrades, backup camera installations and truck bed covers.
“We’re pretty close to being a onestop shop for everything,” James Beemer said. “We’re well diversified because we do so many different things,”
The Beemers are also the only authorized U-Haul dealer in Nodaway County
“It’s another service that I believe people here need,” he said.
For the last several years, the Beemers have been attending the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, which is one of the world’s largest car and truck shows to learn about new trends and equipment in the automotive market. The Beemers have even been mentioned on national television. Connections made at SEMA have led to Beemer’s being one of only a handful of Any Level Lift dealers in the country.
“Some of the trucks we’re building now are on a whole different scale,” James Beemer said. “It’s just a differ-
ent level than what the average shops are doing in northwest Missouri. We’re putting on $50,000 plus lift kits and $20,000 wheel and tires. We’re doing stuff the average Joe just doesn’t do.”
Although the Beemers can do just about anything to a vehicle, the heart of their operation is in helping the average vehicle owner in northwest Missouri keep their vehicles and equipment in excellent working order.
“We’re not only doing the big stuff, we see more of the average stuff,” he said.
The Beemers also care deeply about their community which is evident by the creation of Be Better By Beemer, a philanthropic LLC. Be Better takes the proceeds from events such as the annual truck shows and tractor pulls they host and gives funds to local agencies that support the community. This arm of the Beemers’ businesses has donated over $10,000 to organizations.
“Maryville has been good to us and we like to give back to our community,” he said. “We would like to get where we can hold multiple events a year to help out more than we do now. We love Maryville and if there is something that we can do to better our community we’d like to try and do it.”
MARYVILLE, Mo. — Whether looking for the latest in fashion, something for the house or something for a friend, Barnyard Boutique has those needs covered.
“We have pretty much everything,” said owner Samantha Vicker.
Saying they have everything is not really a stretch of the imagination.
Although the store may be known for its women’s clothing, which has a lot of new summer items including dresses and shorts, Barnyard Boutique also has men’s and kids’ clothing, hats, boots, handbags and much more.
Vicker takes and sells clothing on consignment.
The shop is also well known for its crafts and gifts — in fact the business start-
ed out selling crafts back when it opened in 2016, but quickly expanded its customer reach.
The store stocks all sorts of home décor items and gifts. Some of those are wax melts, beer can candles, signs for the home, wine socks, charms and slushy mixes, just to name a few.
Barnyard Boutique also expanded into offering various tack items including saddles.
In its current building since the fall of 2018, Vicker said that business is as good as ever.
“Now that we’ve added on, it’s just night and day,”
she said. Barnyard Boutique also offers many of its items via its website at barnyardcreationsboutique.com or shoppers can visit in person and see what’s in stock. Vicker’s shop is located at 1630 N. Main St. For more information call 660-541-5528.
MARYVILLE, Mo. — Compass Dental Group, a partnership between Bruce E. Twaddle, DDS, Brian D. Vierthaler, DDS, and Spencer Twaddle, DDS, began in June 2011 when Bruce Twaddle and Vierthaler decided to combine their successful local practices, and in 2023, Spencer Twaddle joined the ownership group.
Since its founding, the priority at Compass Dental has been to deliver quality care to informed patients in a comfortable and convenient setting.
“We have worked hard in establishing a working philosophy of treatment for patients in our office,” Bruce Twaddle said. “At the heart of this philosophy is the Mayo Concept of group practice.”
The Mayo Concept holds that all eyes of the team are focused on the health of each patient as the practice guides that individual to oral health and wellness. This involves everyone in the practice focusing on a patient from the moment they become a patient of record, and asks the
team to continually strive for a greater education and insight into the best treatments currently available.
Not only is this concept applied to the staff and their training, but also to the equipment used by the doc tors.
All of the equipment in the Compass Dental Group office is state-of-the-art to provide patients with the best technological advances possible for all procedures.
Compass Dental is a general dentistry practice, which means the dentist is the primary care provider for patients of all ages.
The dentist is respon sible for the, di agnosis, and
treatment of a wide variety of conditions, disorders and services.
When dental problems arise, patients need to turn to a dentist who listens and responds — an experienced doctor who knows the field and can effectively diagnose and treat needs.
“Our staff meets all these criteria,” Vierthaler said. “Plus, you benefit from a dedicated team of trained professionals who give you the individualized attention

MARYVILLE, Mo. —
The Palms Bar & Grill has been open just over two years and it’s staying busy, seeing large lunch crowds and evenings filled with diners and drinkers.
Owners Dee Marriott, Samantha Vicker and Jaime Vicker make it a point to continually update the restaurant.
“Last week we revised our menu for the first time,” Vicker said. “... A couple of our specials that were really popular, we went ahead and put on the menu, like the Reuben.”
The family of entrepreneurs knows food. They also own Jake’s Steakhouse and Boudreaux’s Louisiana Seafood & Steak in St. Joseph and the Salty Steer which resides on Sixth Street in downtown St. Joseph.
“I’ve had a lot of people ask me ever since we did Jake’s if we would do something in Maryville, so finally I gave in and did something in Maryville,” Marriott told The Forum in a 2022 interview.
Samantha Vicker told The Forum last week that everybody’s favorite, the Beach Balls, are still on the new menu. She is the one who brought that particular item to the menu at The Palms.
She said the fried spinach dip didn’t work out so well, but when these components came together, the made-fromscratch delicacy was born.
“That’s a lot of people’s favorite,” she said. “... The Beach Balls are really the only thing that I have people say, ‘Oh my God, we have to have those.’”
She said the restaurant
will still plan to have specials every day, and should people enjoy them, some of those specials might even make a future menu.
Vicker said the business is doing well regarding staff and have quite a few who have been working there since the place opened.
Though some servers graduated and left the area, she said the business hasn’t hurt for help recently.
“It’s way different than St. Joe with our other restaurants, but it’s been pretty consistent here,” she said.
The Palms hosts a happy hour with deals on drinks
Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Diners can get their favorite beverages at special prices throughout the week. On Friday and Saturday, another drink special runs from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m on Friday and Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
MARYVILLE, Mo. — In December, Sue Schenkel knew it was time for her and and her husband John to consider a change in living arrangements when he began experiencing memory issues. When initial plans didn’t work out, Oak Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care offered the answer to her concerns.
Sue began talking with their children about how best to handle leaving the farm for a place closer to the care they needed.
“He had lived there his whole life … so basically 80 years of his life have (been on the farm),” Sue said.
Unfortunately the situation had become too dangerous to stay.
Unable to be left alone around the farm machinery or animals, Sue said she wasn’t sleeping and finally realized they simply had a need for more care.
“It finally came to us that we’re not solving any problems,” she said. “We’re just moving them from one place to another. The problem would still be there. He would still be wandering, maybe worse.”
Sue turned to Oak Pointe for the help they needed. She said moving from 2,700 square feet to 600 square feet was a big change, but that the most important items came along with them. On the walls in their two-bedroom, twobathroom apartment at Oak Pointe are family portraits and wedding photos.
They also got to keep their grandfather clock, which was very important. So much so, that her children helped draw up a layout of the apartment in order to find space for it.
“It’s a big change,” said Sue. “So, it was very emotional for all the kids. That’s where they had grown up. That’s where the grandkids came every summer to spend some time on the farm. So, there were lots and lots of memories there; it was not easy by any means.”
But once the Schenkels arrived at Oak Pointe and the first snowstorm hit, Sue knew she was in the right place.
“I didn’t have to do anything,” she said. “I looked out the window at the snow piling in the courtyard. … My kids were glad we were here. … Safety is a big part of it, a big part of it.”
Since coming to Oak Pointe, John is receiving the the care and support he needs for memory loss, and Sue is recognizing the benefits of living in a community with 24/7 care. Sue had to have surgery and being at Oak Pointe helped her recover faster than if she still had to manage the farmhouse.
She’s also benefiting from chair yoga and balancing classes that use stretch bands.
“I feel like the classes have helped me,” Sue said, explaining that she also walks laps around the community after meals.
Walking just 12 of those laps equals a mile, and at the end of many days, her Fitbit shows she’s covered about 3.2 miles per day.
When asked what she likes about Oak Pointe, Sue points out how nice it is to have servers call her by name at meals. She also was glad she didn’t have to fix her own special diet meals after her surgery. She likes her apartment with a kitchenette, and she’s been using it recently to make deviled eggs, one of her favorite dishes.
Sue has felt a real sense of community as she has been getting to know people during the last six months. Oak Pointe offers events for residents to meet each other and even shuttles them to and from appointments. There are even trips to the store, for those interested.
Sue hosted her church circle out in the courtyard during the most recent eclipse in April.
“Everybody’s journey is different,” she said, noting that she is glad to be at Oak Pointe where she’s able to relax knowing her husband is safe and where she is finding her place in the community.
“We’re fortunate that we have a place like this,” she said. “I think if I had any advice to give somebody … it’s to don’t wait too late, because then you have fewer options and you’re likely to not be happy.”

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Planning for your financial future can be paralyzing. In this day and age, there is no shortage of investment advice out there — some of it good, some of it bad.
But with so much information and advice available, planning for your financial future can be more freezing than freeing: How do you know what will work best for your goals even if it’s smart for somebody else’s? It can be hard enough to figure out where to start, much less where you want to end up.
That’s why Curtis Behrend at Behrend Wealth Management in Maryville, doesn’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, Behrend works with each client to figure out where they want to go — and how to get there.

tions to keep a client moving toward their goal.
“I’ve just always tried to figure out what my client needs and then figure out what product or service would benefit them or fill that need for them,” Behrend said.

“Ever since I started financial advising, I’ve tried to do what I thought was right for the client,” Behrend said. “I’ve tried to do what I would recommend for my mom or my dad or myself.”

MARYVILLE, Mo. —
Earlier this year, Hazel’s Gowns opened its doors to people in search of dress attire for special events. From wedding gowns to prom dresses, shoes and jewelry, the boutique, located at 24722 U.S. Business 71, is prepared to offer something for the dressiest of occasions.
“This seemed to be what Maryville needed,” said Christy Frueh, owner. “Because there was nothing for formal wear closer than Kansas City or Omaha.”
Frueh was quick to say there is a “wonderful” shop in Clarinda that offers formal wear, but it doesn’t stock mother-of-the-bridestyle dresses, and she wanted an option closer to town.
The shop offers wedding gowns, bridal party dresses, mother-of-the-bride gowns and pant suits, in both regular and plus sizes. No appointment is necessary, unless an entire bridal party wants to have access to the entire shop, then Frueh suggests they call
and set up an appointment.
“They can come in and look around and try on anything they like,” Frueh said.
As the business has grown during the first part of the year, Frueh has listened to customers ideas’ and added new clothing options. She brought in more children’s clothes. At first, they accepted used clothing in order to offer more affordable dresses, but quickly ran out of room for them. Those items eventually were given to the Thrifty Boutique.
“So now they have prom dresses,” Frueh said. “She said she’d never gotten to carry prom dresses. She’d never had access to any, so that’s a good thing for anybody trying to find a gown.”
Working with local business owners has been a bit like finding community, she said. While Hazel’s centrally focused on gowns, one suit adorns the picture window and it’s from Something Borrowed.
“And she (Rosemary Stiens) has one of our wedding gowns in her window,” Frueh said.
“...If they don’t have something, they’ll send people up here and I do the same.”

local,” Frueh said. “We’re just trying to deal with as many local businesses as we can.”
also working to expand to include nicer back-toschool
clothing like nice dress pants. Frueh said she and Pat Wyatt are also incredibly excited about Christmastime. They’re planning decorations and even attempting to see if Santa can find time to come visit. Hazel’s Gowns is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
