STATEMENT The Starbucks coffeehouse in Oslo should represent a new store paradigm. My proposal is an iconic autonomous core building consisting of the flagship store.

It is a place where customers, visitors and the community of Oslo will meet for a spectacular Starbucks cafe experience.

Tomorrow’s Starbucks store design has to be user and environment friendly, adopting the local culture and reflecting the unique characteristics of each neighborhood.

Still, my Starbucks coffeehouse is not just a place that offers great coffee. The variety of spaces - including open areas, standing tables, lounge furniture, exhibition area, library, and training offices - will be designed to meet the needs and expectations of as many Starbucks customers and employees as possible.

It will be a place where customers and employees feel comfortable and productive, a store that creates memories.

COFFEEHOUSE IN THE CITY Between the OsloFjord and the forests lies the Norwegian capital of Oslo, which has become a capital of contemporary architecture. In recent years the construction of modern landmarks, new neighborhoods and the reconstruction of a part of the old port have transformed the skyline and the waterfront of the Fjord city.

The design of the coffeehouse is based upon a sensitive approach to the Starbucks culture and the new architectural identity of Oslo.

The iconic shape of the building, the strong prismatic elements, the distinctive and contemporary materials and the interior design proposal reflect the unique architectural identity of the site and the openness of contemporary Oslo.

The building invites people to discover it while, at the same time, becoming a key destination to the community and the visitors of Oslo.

DESIGN CONCEPT The design of the Oslo Starbucks coffeehouse is inspired by the Norwegian tradition and nature preserving the Starbucks store service philosophy and thus integrated in the contemporary Scandinavian aesthetic.

The dragon tale from the Vikings ship prow, a native symbol, becomes a key element of the concept.

Folgefonna glacier / Norway

INTERIOR WALLS The proposal for the interior walls in the bar and the retail area pays homage to the great tradition of Norwegian wood.

The prismatic form inspired by Folgefonna glacier of Norway inserting a local natural element into the store.

The walls are made of Norwegian spruce wood with hidden LED lights.

BAR DESIGN The bar design is inspired by the wood shield layers of the vikings ship.

MODELS STUDIES

I am happy to share this project with you. The Starbucks store design in Oslo was a great challenge for me. This creative adventure brought me joy, dreams and my first experience on the design process.
