This semester we focused on multi-family housing. We were studying the project at three different scales: the scale of the City, Street and Unit. At the city level of the proposal, a vertical Green Belt is created to lead people, both residents and non-residents to this area through the Metro transport. This provides people leaving the train station with a visual experience unlike any other within the rest of the city. This green belt not only provides for circulation, but it also act as a gathering space for a variety of activities and festivals.

The street is an important element in this housing project. It reflects the daily activities and living quality of the area. The goal of this proposal was to define flexible yet residential boundary is clear. Two levels of circulation are created to accommodate the notion of separated public and private circulation.

This housing project dedicates most of the community to the elderly and single parents. The design of the units aimed to create space that is simple and open, which gives visual comfort to both the elderly and single parents. The focal point of the unit is the large, open balcony that is meant for not only private usage but also as a meeting place for neighbours in the building.
The form of the units driven from very typical cruciform housing typology. Modules are broken down into three unit types according to the view direction. The shift-stacking of units creates an interesting facade on the building.

Spring 2013_Community Center
The site for this project was a small town outside of downtown Chicago called Little Saigon. Located near Little Saigon is composed of Argyle Station, Broadway Street, running North-South, and few small East-West streets. This town contains the oldest Asian population in Chicago and now is dominated mainly by the Vietnamese. The project called for the design of a community center for the Vietnamese population. The basic program of the community center required providing a space for daily and festival gatherings. The center not only provides a gathering space for people sharing the same culture, but it also works to promote the Vietnamese culture within the greater Chicago area. The community center also provides green spaces to educate the importance of nature within the Vietnamese. The design is taken from an abstraction of star shape, which once symbolized different classes in Vietnam, but now a new definition has been given. The transparent facade and roof illuminate both during the day and at night; the community center is the star of the city, illuminating the beauty of Vietnamese culture for the larger population in Chicago to witness.

Freedom Parkway
Freedom parkway runs through the Freedom Park from west-east, connecting Carter Park on the west end and south to Inman Park. This parkway serves as a passage connecting the urban Atlanta to the nature. It is a center for recreational activities and a common ground for local art development. City of Atlanta is planning on an - expand sion project, hoping to engage the Southern part of Cotton Mill Loft Atlanta to the art development. Symbolizes the renovation ambitious in Atlanta and the similar goal of this project.

The site chosen is surrounded with deep Atlanta historical culture, and very close to MARTA transit. The site will be a place for Music festival and public gathering place before they reach north to the Freedom Park. The pavilion design serves not only a ground for the music performance, but also embracing the site. It is a buffering zone, gathering people and encourages further activity at the North. The settlement of the pavilion also symbolize es holding the corner for the surrounding historical culture.
Site locates on a street embracing itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s historical neighbourhood and art development.

Prototopology Utilizing a digital tool to define an abstract geometrical object on a tile. The design is influenced by specific parameters, the changing of parameters produce variation and shape transformation.
