Introduction to Gemmotherapies A. Why use the Gemmotherapies?

Rigorous preparation is used in the production of the young growths of each plant. This is essential to preserve the active principles specific to gemmotherapies. All extracts are prepared in a glycerine and alcohol solution, which is filtered and potentized at a 1/10th dilution (1x Hahnemannian) in a pure water, glycerine and alcohol solution. All gemmotherapy remedies are prepared and delivered in this dilution, with the exception of Viscum album, which is prepared at a 1CH dilution. These are the only dilutions that are used because these are the only dilutions that work.

Introduction to Gemmotherapies The buds of the plants are harvested at an exact point in the buds development – right when it is beginning to awaken. At harvest the bud is placed in water, alcohol, and glycerin. The alcohol will extract all active principles like alkaloids, heterocytes, and glycosides. The glycerin will extract all of the essential oils, phenols, and flavonoids. This allows the entire biochemical ingredients to be extracted.

The main action of the Gemmotherapies is to encourage elimination through the body’s detoxification system. The elimination of the endogenous substances that do not conform to the biological balance facilitates the immunological identity in the child and strengthens the immune function in the adult.

Phyto-Embryotherapy (Plant Bud Therapy)

Phyto-embryotherapy Plant buds have been used medicinally dating as far back as the Egyptians. The revolution of phytoembryological tissue therapy began in the 1950’s. Dr. Pol Henry, a renowned Belgian homeopath, who had become inspired

by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s book “The Metaphorophosis of Plants”, conducted research on the therapeutic properties of plants buds. In 1970, he published his clinical findings, naming this new therapy “Phytoembryotherapie”.

Plant Bud History Dr. Henry contributed much of the effectiveness of this form of plant therapy to the anabolic potential and energetic power of the plant meristems.

Phytoembryotherapy was further adapted by French Homeopath, Dr. Max Tetau. He was instrumental in advancing the clinical application of embryonic plant therapy. Both during and since his time, other Belgium and French doctors, among other researchers, such as Claude Bergeret and the biologist Jean-Claude Leunis, have further contributed to the scientific and clinical development of this phytotherapy.

Comparison of the Phyto-embryotherapy and Gemmotherapy 1DH ? Macerating buds without water goes against Dr. Henry’s precepts, according to which water is essential in extracting the plant’s energy and active elements. The concentrated macerate is richer, more energetic. ? The 1DH glycerin macerate is less practical. The number of drops to take varying with the dilution, 50 to 150 drops per day are needed with this macerate and so many drops are tedious to count. The concentrated macerate is more practical: Fewer drops to count (5 to 15 drops per day). ? The amount of alcohol used in the 1DH macerate is high. It is 50% greater during maceration and 34% greater in the dilution. The final product contains 35% more alcohol than the mother-macerate. The alcohol titer of the latter being very low (30%), it can be administered to young children. Further more, one only takes 5 to 15 drops of concentrated macerate per day, which is 10 times less than for the 1DH macerate. One consumes much less alcohol using the mother-macerate.

Oligo-Elements

Oligo-elements Over a century ago, French chemist and biologist Gabriel Bertrand discovered trace minerals (mineral salts) naturally present within the body. These minerals play an extremely important biological role as key components in the control of cellular metabolism in homeostasis regulation. At the cellular level, trace minerals are used at minute intracellular dilutions, released in ionized form for immediate transportation and utilization throughout the body. Trace minerals function the following three areas: 1. Enzymatic co-factors 2. Hormone modulators 3. Structural components

Enzymatic Co-Factors ? Enzymatic co-factors. Enzymes are the biological catalysts required in most chemical reactions that occur in biological systems. Enzymes allow the body to perform metabolic functions at rates in excess of a million times greater than would be possible without them. Formed out of protein molecules, most enzymes depend on specific, low-concentration trace minerals to provide metal ions as either stabilizers or activators, as well as help determine the enzyme’s specificity for a given substrate. Trace minerals become the co-factors to help normalize enzymatic function.

Hormone Modulators ? Hormone modulators: Trace minerals are essential in the production of hormones and vitamins in the body. ? Example: iodine is essential in the production of T3 and T4 ? Example: cobalt is essential in the existence of Vitamin B12 ? Example: iron is essential in the composition of hemoglobin

Structural Components ? Structural components: Minerals possess either a quantitative or qualitative effect, depending on whether they work at the macro (quantitative) level of structural formation and functional processes, or at the micro (qualitative) level of cellular enzyme activation. Trace minerals work at a micro level (qualitative in action) but may have additional roles and work at a macro (or quantitative) level. ? Example: fluoride aids in the normal growth of teeth and bone ? Example: silica aids in the growth of the connective tissue

Oligo-elements Dr. Gabriel Bertrand discovered trace elements within the body. It was shown that trace elements (mineral salts) have a biological role when he made the discovery of Manganese. He proved that these mineral salts, which represent less than 1 gram in the body, are absolutely essential for normal enzymatic function. There are a total of 11 trace elements.

In 1981 Dr. Mertz also proved that if the body lacks a trace element there will be a functional problem in the body.

Oligo-elements Interestingly, these 11 trace elements make up 99.9% of the earths mass. The macro molecules H, O, C, and N make up 95% of the bodies mass. The trace elements make up 0.1% of the body, but nothing will work without them. Fe, Zn and Cu are the most present in the body and the most important and make up 99% of the 0.1% of the trace elements in the body.

What are Oligo-Elements? ? “Oligo elements” or “oligotherapy” are trace minerals in a highly bio-available form, administered in small doses and at low concentrations, providing ions the body cannot synthesize and which are indispensable for cellular enzymatic functions. With a good safety profile, oligo-elements have: no known side effects; no known drug to drug interaction; and will not cause any pharmaco-dependancy.

Oligotherapy can be well integrated with other modalities.

Oligo Elements and Physiological Disorders ? Oligo elements are a versatile modality that is suited to treat functional pathologies and bring the body back to homeostasis. It is a holistic approach that takes not just the physical but also the constitutional (or character) of the individual into account. By regulating a particular constitution, practitioners are able to diminish or modulate reactivity in relation to a specific pathological predispositions.

THE TWELVE SCHÜESSLER SALTS

SCHÜESSLER SALTS ? In the 1850’s, the chemist Justus VON LIEBIG published a study on the importance of certain mineral substances necessary to the life of vegetable organisms: « The life of plants is subjected to the presence of mineral salts in the earth that feeds them ». ? Later, MOLESCHOTT pursued and deepened von Liebig’s work in the treatise « Circulation and Life»

SCHÜESSLER SALTS ? In 1872, when writing his prescriptions, the homeopath Guillaume Schüessler began to add routinely the 12 salts at the core of the composition of animal tissues. Convinced that, very often, illness was accompanied by an insufficiency in one or more of these salts, Dr. Schüessler concluded that if the salts were provided to the depleted organism healing should ensue. A particular sentence in « The Circulation of Life » had caught his attention : « The mineral substances that remain in the ashes after calcination of animal tissues, are as much an essential part of their constitution as the substances volatilized from the calcination ».

SCHÜESSLER SALTS Schüessler, however, thought that massive doses of these mineral salts might intoxicate the cells, and he chose to give them at the sixth homeopathic decimal dynamization.

The Schüessler method progressively became accepted and other works carried out by Doctors Boericke and Dewey in 1888 confirmed Dr. Schüessler’s findings.
