GENERIC MUSIC Is for one melodic instrument and keyboard. The keyboard instrument may be electronic or acoustic, as long as it can play at the same dynamic as the solo instrument. The solo instrument may be string or wind, or possibly electronic. The piece is to be played continuously, very legato throughout in both parts, without interruption, so, if the solo part is to be played on a wind instrument, for example, circular breathing should be employed in sections I, III and IV. Repeats are ad lib. Throughout the piece, but each segment should be repeated at least 3 or 4 times, and approaching “significant modulations, the segments can be very long. This is only a guide- the piece can be anywhere from 15 to 30 min. long, with repeat schemes adjusted accordingly. In section III, barring is not the same in the two parts. In this section, both players begin and end together, but move freely within. Section III goes attaca to section IV. The parts should be perfectly balanced, and the effect should be as one instrument playing.
