Swedish man mugged 20 days ago contacts police for assistance

This next news item must have seemed more like an extract from a ‘Cowboys and Indians’ movie than real life on Pattaya streets. The incident apparently happened when a group of Thai young men were making their way home after an evening at the Pattaya International Music Festival. The youths were well into their journey, when suddenly, they realised they were being followed by about 10 Thais on motorbikes. Without any warning, the perusing group each took out guns and started indiscriminately shooting into the first group. Police Lieutenant Nitipoom Bootwong, Banglamung Police Investigator, Chonburi, received a telephone call at around 4.00am to inform him that a man had been shot and seriously wounded in front of the Taweechai Store, Naklua New Market, Moo 5, but, before he could get to the scene, he had another call informing him that 3 or 4 more youths had also been shot, but had been taken to Banglamung Hospital for emergency treatment by passers by. Arriving at the scene with a Sawangboriboon paramedic rescue team, the police officer discovered the body of Mr. Wacharatorn

Temsiri, aged 20, who had been shot by a 9mm in both his mouth and right eye; he was immediately transferred by the rescue team to Banglamung Hospital. Police also collected a number of shells from the scene as evidence and proceeded to the hospital to try and interview the victims to get an idea of what had taken place. At the hospital, they found out that Mr. Mr. Surasak Ra-ngabpai, aged 18, had been shot in the stomach on Soi Nempubwan and was in a critical condition, Mr. Punya Koompapun, aged 22, had taken a bullet in the left buttock which had travelled into his leg, and had been shot in front of the Nong Yai (Big Fen) Temple, and Mr. Wittakon Potong, aged 28, who had been shot in the back of his right leg. Finally, a gentleman who could not at the time be identified had taken a bullet in the stomach and was in a very serious condition in Chonburi Hospital. The police presume that there must be some history between two rival gangs, that it got out of hand, and they will make further investigations in order to get to the bottom of the story and bring guilty parties to justice. by Somboon

Robber not quick enough! A couple from the Czech Republic recently had a stroke of good luck when a ‘Bag Snatcher’ who had grabbed her handbag, turned out not to be as quick as he thought he was, and was quickly apprehended by passers by near Soi 2, Beach Road. Arriving at the scene, Police Lieutenant Somchai Chaikananukoon, was met by the victims, Mrs. Monica Pasakova, a lawyer, and her husband, who identified that the young man caught, Mr. Chanchai Sreeprai, aged 20, was indeed the man who snatched her bag, whilst they enjoyed a drink at a local bar. The accused admitted to his crime, but blamed it on not having enough money to pay his bills and eat. The would be thief almost had a good result as it turned out the handbag contained over 100,000 baht in cash, as well as credit cards and other important documents. The robbed couple explained

to the police officer that they had been enjoying a drink and the view, when suddenly the accused ran up, snatched her bag, and took to his heels. The couple started shouting loudly and fortunately a group of foreign tourists were able to stop and apprehend the would be robber before he could get too far. The officer took the accused into custody to await his day in court. by Somboon

bottles he had purchased a short time before. Mr. Wirat Kwanmueng, aged 53, a security guard at the complex explained to the police officers that the injured man had returned from the Music Festival earlier in the evening with 5 bad wounds to his head, which had been bandaged, and he had got as a result of a motorbike accident. He went to bed, but came out a couple of hours later to do his late shopping at the store opposite. The security guard

and police officer assumed he must have fallen in his room, re-opened his wounds, and being so drunk, not noticed or felt anything. The medical team managed to stop the bleeding, which probably saved his life, and the police officer managed to convince the injured man that he needed proper medical treatment at the hospital. Being in no fit state to be questioned on the evening, police officers will still be paying Mr. Willi a visit to get his version of the night’s events.
