First World Kumite ever in Thailand Athletes from 40 countries to join

AT Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel, General Pracha Promnok in the chair declared the World Kumite 2008 competition would be held in the Kingdom for the very first time. Mr Sifu McInnes, in charge of the South East International School of Martial Arts, ISS Group Thailand, said, "The World Kumite 2008 will promote both Kumite and Thailand as a whole in the sporting context." He added that the competition would be broadcast round the world to dozens of countries. The competition will be arranged at Ambassador City from September 28 to

September 30 and will include Kumite athletes from 40 countries with about 150 athletes and their entourage, a combined total of 400 plus.

On August 31, there was a grand opening ceremony at the International School of Martial Arts, Central Road Pattaya, at which police colonel Noppodol

Wongnom, Superintendent of Pattaya police, and Rear Admiral Samak Sugihara, adviser to the School, joined Mr McInnes to give out certificates and decorations to Pattaya S.W.A.T team, first generation of 14 honoured persons. The School teaches many different martial arts such as Karate, Tae Kwan Do and acts as a training centre for army and police amongst others. The School occupies an area of nearly 2 rai and the total investment is 25 million baht with all the complete facilities of a fitness and martial arts centre.
