The driver of the pickup truck, Khun Rot Sinchai, aged 24, an electrician, had done a runner after the accident, however, police discovered him hiding close by within fifteen minutes. He explained to the police officers the events that had led to the tragic accident. The two men were very good friends and had been spending a pleasant evening with fellow workers having a few whiskies after a hard days work. At around midnight, the dead man, Mr. Poramet, decided that he had drunk enough and would call it a night; he walked over to the mango tree and went to sleep

in the hammock. A short time later, the rest of the group decided that they too had had enough and would call it a night, however the driver of the vehicle, and his friend, Boy, decided that the evening was still young and they would go out to continue the party. Being very drunk, and not thinking of the possible repercussions, they borrowed their boss’s truck, and Mr. Sinchai, despite the fact that he had never driven before, though it would be a good idea if he drove. He scratched along the side of the green pickup truck, and with no control whatsoever, he continued at high speed to run over the mattress where they had all been drinking a short time before, and smashed into the hammock in the mango tree, instantly killing his friend and co-worker. Despite being in tears and devastated by his actions, the police arrested him and he was taken to the station and charged with careless driving, causing damage to another vehicle, and causing death by dangerous driving. No doubt he will get his day in court shortly.
