Despite an already full calendar, Ms SchranerBurgener, Swiss Ambassador to Thailand, and her husband, Mr Burgener, Swiss Ambassador to Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, based in Bangkok, kindly accepted a dinner invitation at the Rembrandt Hotel. Over a gastronomic delight, complemented with Indian wines, the Ambassadorial couple and the Executive Board of the Swiss Society spent a lovely evening together. This new model of Swiss ‘diplomacy’ presents, for the first time, a job sharing assignment at such high level. The distinct assignment separation includes the sharing of office, remuneration, as well as the education of their two children. The Swiss Society Bangkok wishes the two new Heads of Mission only the very best and looks forward to a fruitful cooperation in the years to come. Manhattan Restaurant has new Manager Guests visiting Manhattan’s Restaurant on Thappraya Road are now being welcomed by the new French Manager Mr. Jean Yves, who has had vast experience in France, Cambodia, Bangkok, London and even on the ‘QE-II’ passenger liner. Together with the usual fine food and same friendly staff, Jean will make Manhattan’s diners welcome with his friendly manner, and regular special events. Pinktober’s main objectives are to create, relay, and educate public awareness about ‘Breast Cancer’ and to support and raise funds for the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Fund’. Hard Rock Cafe Manager, Mr Laurent Levraud, explained the history of ‘Pinktober’ and introduced the sale of Pinktober 2009 Limited Edition memorabilia, including Pin, Key Chain, T-shirt and special beverages of ‘Rocktail and Mocktail’ for the month, which part of the revenue being channelled to the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Fund’. On top of that, every guest who purchased these merchandise or beverages will receive special discount voucher for up to 45% on Cancer Screening Packages at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Fashion contest held at Central-Plaza Chonburi

The Central Plaza Chonburi recently organised a Fashion Show for budding designers under the banner ‘ Kids Fashion Plus 2009’. This was the ideal opportunity for boys and girls from all over the Chonburi region to compete for the coveted Her Royal Highness Princess Ubonrat Trophy and scholarship. The winner from the boy’s category, Jetsada Morakasonthi, a student at Howang School, and the girl’s winner, Miss Jiraporn Sritraphan, a student from Burapha University, both received their trophies and scholarships from famous Thai movie director, Khun Pot Annon, who was also one of the judges.

Author Ian’s New ‘Farang -The Sequel’

At a recent PCEC meeting, Dr. Ian Corness, passed on to members some amazing facts about Thailand and advice for foreigners living in Thailand from both his original book titled ‘Farang’ and with his new book titled ‘Farang, - The Sequel’. Members found this to be a very interesting talk that explained physical, plus cultural and psychological differences between Thais and westerners. Dr. Ian started as a columnist for the “Pattaya Mail” newspaper, writing both under his own name and pen-names. He improved his literary skills and decided to write a book based on his experiences of himself and other foreign nationals in Thailand.
