Two into one will go - hopefully. We propose to make the next issue of Parish News a joint December-January number, which will avoid preparing for publication during the busy Christmas period. So, items for this joint issue by November 18th, please.

SPARKFORD

BYPASS

Over 100 people attended the Public Meeting held in the Agricultural Hall on Tuesday 7th. October. The meeting was called by Mr. Cluett for the residents of this Parish to discuss alterations to the published proposal for the A.303 Sparkford by-pass. The suggested alterations were first brought to the attention of the Parish Council at the Public Inquiry and, therefore, Mr. Cluett judged that a consensus of opinion was needed. About three quarters of those who attended were actually residents of the Parish and it was agreed that only they should be entitled to vote. The suggested alterations were put forward by Mr. Tracy, Mr. Watts and Mr. Davies, a District Councillor who represents Castle Cary residents. The main concern of these objectors to the published proposal is to keep the A.359 open through Sparkford thus allowing free access for traffic from local points to the Yeovil and Castle Cary directions. Mrs Cottier spoke for both the published proposal and the published proposal with an amendment: a link onto the A.359 spur from Wolfester Terrace. The conclusion reached by a majority vote was that this Parish wants both the A.303 traffic and the A.359 traffic, other than local traffic, taken away. However, the Parish is concerned that the published route does not take into account local traffic intending to travel to Queen Camel and towards the Yeovil direction and, therefore, supports the published proposal with the Wolfester Terrace link.

SPARKFORD

PARISH COUNCIL

On October 10th. the Parish Council met for the third time that month but this time for its normal monthly meeting. It was with some relief that the meeting heard form Mrs. North that the street lights are now working correctly. The Highway Surveyor has been advised of the pot hole in Church Road opposite the entrance to Ainstey Drive, which appeared following repairs to the water main. Mr. Boyle-Hayward has also been advised of surface water which collects at 'Pensioners Rest' because the water channel has been blocked by tarmac from the recent re-surfacing of Twines Close. Mrs. North remarked on the poor quality of the bin bags and householders are advised to contact the S.S.D.C. direct if they have similar complaints. Possible reinstatement of the stile from Cherry Pie Lane to the Glebe Field was again discussed. When Councillors inspected the field gate at this point following the last meeting they found that it allowed easy access to walkers and it was agreed therefore, that it was not necessary to reinstate the stile. More on stiles: Mr. J. Toop very kindly offered to repair the stile to the footpath running behind the council-built garages off Church Road. Mr. Cluett thanked him warmly on behalf of the Community. It was decided that as a name plate to Ainstey Drive has not yet been erected as it was understood it would be, it would be in order to approach the S.S.D.C. to ask that a sign be erected on the bank between Mr. J. Toop's and Mr. Card's house indicating the direction of Ainstey Drive. Next meeting:

Monday,

3rd November at 7.30 pm. Avril Ward Clerk to the Council

SPARKFORD

PLAYING FIELD ASSOCIATION

The Skittles evening held at the Sparkford Inn on September 24th. (courtesy of Mr. Protheroe) was a great success. It was very well supported by a lot of 'new' as well as 'old' village people. The excellent food was organised by Ann Tuck with the ladies of the Committee and that plus the raffle run by Dolly White realised a profit of ÂŁ67. The Community Programme started erecting the Adventure Playground equipment on Monday 20th. October - we hope the present weather continues, for their sake! Our next function after the 50/50 sale is a bottle stall at the Autumn Fair, when we will also be selling our Christmas card which has been designed by Kathy Bowden. Donations of bottles, etc., please, to Alison Roylance or Helen Brazier. The card also available to order, or after 10th. November from Alison or Sally White.
