Judging by the number of events in Dates for your Diary this month, the community is coming to life again after its winter hibernation, There may be some folk living in our villages who have hesitated in the past about joining more fully in the life of the community, Now is the time to change all that - come along to one of the Annual General Meetings soon to be held - you will be made most welcome, Items for the next issue by March 18th, please,

PARISH COUNCil

At the February meeting, Mr. Cluett expressed the sincere good wishes of the Parish Council to Mr. George Chappell for his speedy return to good health, Mr. Cluett then welcomed Mr. Good from Southern Electricity, who was to answer queries and complaints about the domestic supply and street lighting, The meeting listened to Mr. Good's explanations and it was agreed to wait and see whether or not the installation of the new transformer will improve the reliability of the domestic supply, Failing this, Mr. Good suggested that volt-counter meters should be installed in affected homes and further investigations would follow, Concerning street lights, the problems, he explained, were probably due to faulty starter units, These are now being replaced with new electronic units, and we should, in theory anyway, have no further problems, Mr. Good is to act as our 'liason officer' with Southern Electricity, so all future complaints should be channelled through him, please, on Yeovil 75151, There is no news yet of the result of the Public Enquiry into the A303 improvement proposals but Mrs, Cottier hopes to know something by the Annual Parish Meeting, The Divisional County Surveyor is to be reminded of various outstanding highway complaints including: 1, The condition of the road surface between Weston Bampfylde and little Weston, 2. The surfacing of the area between the path and Mr. Clark's house, Church Road, 3. The re-surfacing of road, Green Close, 4, Various pot-holes in Church Road, Mr. Boyle- Hayward has promised that all these matters will receive attention. The clerk is to put to the S,S, D,C, the suggestion that a lay-by be formed from an area of land in front of bungalows 15-20 to ease the parking problem in Green Close. Meanwhile, Mr. Cluett thanks the residents for their help in this respect since the last meeting, Since this meeting, the clerk has written to the District Office of the Post Office, on the instructions of Mr. Cluett and has received assurance that a Post Office will continue in Sparkford as long as a replacement for Mrs, Hoare can be found. Mrs, North paid tribute to the many people who had worked so hard to ensure that rio-one. particularly the elderly, suffered in the January freeze. A vote of thanks was recorded to Parishioners and to the South Somerset District Council, the Wessex Water Board and to the various hard-working electricians and plumbers, Next meeting: Monday, 2nd. ANNUAL

PARISH MEETING, 1986

Mr Cluett welcomed 32 residents to the 1986 Annual Parish Meeting on 4th April. Mrs Rose Hoskins opened proceedings with a prayer for guidance which Mr Cluett followed with tributes to two residents who had sadly passed away during the year, Miss Abbott, q !'fta. -:Do~e(.,'We shall greatly miss the Rev, Patrick Connor and his wife, who for so many years played a very important part in our Community. Mrs Cottier, our County Councillor, next reported on the work of the S.C.C. and in particular, the various Committees on which she serves, Subjects she touched on were: Community involvement with the mentally handicapped, Home-helps, Education and the A303 improvement proposals. Mr Cluett, who represents us on the District Council then spoke on the work of the S,S, D,C" of its new policy to offer open spaces to Town and Parish Councils. and how schools are to be involved with conservation and tree planting schemes, One hundred new council houses are planned, as is a pilot scheme for low-cost housing, Flood alleviation projects are progressing and a small industrial estate is to be developed at Castle Cary, Mr Cluett followed this with a report on the business of the Parish Council over the past 12 months, This Parish
