"In the bleak mid-winter": an apt description of the weather as I write. But look further on into the carol and the story of Christmas is told, bringing warmth and joy to our lives. May we commend to your notice the Carol Services to be held at our three churches this month and also the other activities in Dates for your Diary. While we rejoice and make merry let us not forget those, both at home and throughout the world, who will have little to rejoice about this Christmas, and do what little we can to help them. We wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year. Items for the next issue by December 15th, please

PARISH
COUNCIL
At the November meeting of the Parish Council, the frequency of accidents occurring near the entrance to Hazlegrove House was discussed. As the A303 is a trunk road, however, the decision as to what can be done to alleviate the hazards rests with the Department of Transport but it is understood that the Police are now involved. In answer to the question of what can be done in the meantime, a suggestion was made, which it was agreed to put to Mr. Cann, the Headmaster. The suggestion was that all traffic leaving Hazlegrove House should be asked to turn left and that wishing to join the flow in the llchester/Oueen Camel direction could turn, for instance, in the Barrow Road. The matter is to be discussed at the next meeting, in the light of Mr. Cann's reply. It was learned that Twines Close is due to be resurfaced in April/May 1986 and it was agreed to ask the Divisional Highway Surveyor if Green Close could be resurfaced at the same time. Meanwhile, temporary repairs at Twines Close will be made, and holes in the road at the entrance to Higher Farm and at Manor Farm Cottages, Weston Bampfylde, will also be repaired. The Chairman and the Clerk are to seek further estimates for a litter bin for Twines Close. Mrs P. Hoare and Mr H. Bishop agreed to continue as Representatives for the Parish for peacetime emergencies such as floods, power cuts, snow drifts, etc. The Parish Council is to complete the questionnaire in respect of the Yeovil Area Local Plan after the exhibition on November 26th at Queen Camel Hall. The exhibition of plans for the A303 Sparkford Bypass was held in the Agricultural Hall, Sparkford Inn, on November 20th and 21 st. Mr Cluett, on behalf of the Community, thanked both Mr Toop and Mr Nurse for refurbishing the Parish Notice Board, which is now back in position. It was agreed to consider at the next meeting the request to subscribe to the Sparkford Copse Trust. The next meeting will be held on November 26th: no meeting in December.
