THE PARISH NEWS (Sparkford, Weston Bampfylde and Little Weston) (with Sutton Montis)
Vo1.1, No.11
April 1986
Editor: Mark Berry, Bridge Cottage, Sparkford, North Cadbury 40778
As you will see from reports included in this issue, it appears that it will be some considerable time before we once again have a minister directly responsible for our churches. Fears have been expressed that folk in hospital or at home will not be visited or receive the attention that they might otherwise expect. We can only repeat what we said in our September 1985 issue: if you know of anyone who is ill, at home or in hospital, or who would appreciate a visit for any reason at all, or who would like to receive Communion at home, please contact any of the Churchwardens (or the editor of Parish News) and arrangements will be made without delay. The Churchwardens are:

SPARKFORD
PARISH COUNCIL
At the March meeting of the Parish Council the decision by the Department of the Environment to allow the appeal in respect of a suggested cul-de-sac development at Anstey Orchard was discussed. Several Parishioners have expressed concern that a representative of the Parish Council, and in particular, the Chairman, was not invited to be present when the Department inspected the site before coming to its decision. It was agreed that this should be investigated and a strong protest be registered. The litter bin for the site at 'Pensioners Rest' will be delivered shortly when preparations to replace the seat can go ahead. The Parish Council is concerned that repairs to the bridge at Weston Bampfylde will not be completed until 18th April at the earliest. The County Surveyor is to be asked if the work can be speeded up by the lengthening of the working day. The matter of the broken kerbstones at the field entrance by Sparkford Church is also to be reported to the County Surveyor. Councillor Mrs Gwenda North agreed to continue observance of certain street lights for faults. Concern was expressed that a mature lime tree had been felled in the cricket field without either the knowledge or permission of the Parish Council, who are Trustees of the ground. It was agreed to make enquiries and, meanwhile, to order two large lime trees to replace the felled one. Following discussion, it was generally agreed that it would be a waste of Ratepayers' money to take up the offer by Somerset County Council to all Parish Councils of a free copy of the County's minutes. This is especially so as our County Councillor, Mrs Barbara Cottier, always keeps us up to date with County news and will always make available her copy of the minutes to the Parish Council if asked. The South Somerset District Council is investigating the overflow of sewage which affects some properties in Manor Close. Mr Cluett expressed the appreciation of the Council and the Parish for the kind offer of help from the Sparkford Young Farmers in their 'Operation Springclean 86'. It was suggested that as the Sparkford Copse Trust is looking for help to clear large items of accumulated rubbish from the copse, this offer should be passed on to them. A complaint of water flowing over the road at Mr King-Brain's farm at little Weston is to be referred to the Divisional Highway Surveyor. Next meeting of the Parish Council: Tuesday, 1st April, but all Parishioners are reminded that our Annual Parish Meeting is on Friday, 4th April at 7.30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Everyone is warmly invited, so please come.
Avril Ward Clerk to the Council
