SPARKFORD
PARISH COUNCIL
At the February meeting of the Parish Council it was agreed to purchase a litter bin, which is to be placed near the site on which stood the seat known as 'Pensioners Rest'. When the bin is in position the seat will be returned to its original site for a trial period of twelve months in accordance with the decision reached at the Public Meeting. The letter from the Parish Council to the South Somerset District Council concerning the cleansing service is to be placed before the next meeting of the Works Committee. British Telecom is to investigate the Parish Council's complaint concerning the telephone box at Sparkford, following the remarks of the Judges of the 'Best Kept Village Competition'. At the time of this meeting all street lights seemed to be working correctly but Councillor Mrs. G. North agreed to keep an eye on those in Church Road and Green Close. The Parish Council discussed the problem of sewage overflow at certain properties in Manor Close, and a copy of a letter of complaint from a resident so affected is to be sent to the Chief Technical Officer, who, it is understood, already has the matter in hand. The Planning Officer of the South Somerset District Council is to take up with Wessex Water the matter of the trees which have died in the screen planted to disguise the sewage works. It was agreed to refer to Mr. Boyle-Hayward complaints of a hole in the road at Harwarden Terrace, and also the stretch of road between Little Weston and Weston Bampfylde which has broken up. The matter of the tree in the River Cam behind 59, Church Road is to be taken up by the Parish Council. NEXT PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: TUESDAY 4th. MARCH, at 7.30 p.m.
Avril Ward Clerk to the Council
IMPORTANT
NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS
OF THIS PARISH
Please come to our Annual Parish Meeting on Friday 4th. April, at 7.30 p.rn., in the Parish Hall. This is a friendly informal gathering at which we shall hear from our County Councillor, Mrs. Barbara Cottier, and our District Councillor, Mr. Donald Cluett. They will be happy to answer your questions. We shall also hear from the representatives of our various Parish organisations and from our Churches. Mr. Cluett, the Chairman of our Parish Council, will give a brief but interesting account of what has occupied the Council during the past year. If you have any constructive ideas which you feel could help your Community, please bring them along, or come along to listen and maybe join in the discussion. You will recall that this is how our street lighting project got off the ground; likewise our 'Parish News' which is appreciated by all. A summary of the 1985 Annual Parish Meeting follows, but a copy of the minutes, in full, will be available in the Post Office during the week before the meeting, or at the meeting itself.
We were welcomed by our Chairman, Mr. Cluett, who paid tribute to Parishioners who had recently passed away. He then went on with a report on the business which occupied the Parish during the past year; the street lighting scheme, the ongoing tree planting scheme, the maining of the River Cam, traffic problems on the A 303, planning applications, highway matters and the play area proposals. He continued with District news which included a report on the various sheltered housing schemes recently completed, grants available for village halls and recreation areas and to householders to insulate or modernise their homes, new building projects, etc.
