The Petchey Academy ID Cards

• Phones cannot be seen or used in the main areas of the school building including the library . If they are seen, then the school's behaviour policy will be enforced - removal and returned on Thursday

Sometimes students will not comply with academy rules and will therefore be referred to our Behaviour Improvement Room . This is an intervention to refocus students and support them with behaving on their return to class . Any students who are referred to the BIR repeatedly will be considered as persistently disruptive and subject to our sanctions ladder . Your parents will be informed if you are referred to the BIR by text message and they will remain at school for an additional hour on that day .

Headphones and mobile devices

• Outdoor clothes should be left in student lockers during the academy day, except for lunch as students are permitted offsite .

9

The Academy retains the right to act as the final authority in the interpretation of the dress code. We expect all Sixth Form students to be in the correct attire. Students who choose to disobey the Sixth Form dress policy will be sent home to rectify the problem.

In the unlikely event, that you receive a warning in or out of class, are late to lesson or breach the uniform policy you will receive a detention on the following day .

Behaviour Improvement Room

Outdoor clothes:

www.petcheyacademy.org.uk/sixth-form

• Outside jackets must be removed as students enter the building and may not be worn around the academy . Students can have jackets under their arm but not on their shoulders .

Detentions

Students must sign in and out of the academy using their own ID cards only at lunchtime . For safety reasons, students must wear their ID cards and Sixth Form lanyard at ALL times . If you arrive without your ID card and lanyard you will be asked to return home to collect it . If you lose your ID card and lanyard you will be charged £5 to replace them . ID cards can also be used to pay for food and drink at the café and topped up via ParentPay .

Each detention lasts 20 minutes . Detentions take place after school for an hour each evening and any student that receives more than 3 detentions in one day will have their remaining detentions carried over to the next day Your parents will be notified by text message Students are expected to make their own way to detention . Any student who does not go to detention will not be allowed to go to lessons the next day and will be placed in the behaviour improvement room (BIR) . If however, you are late to school this will automatically be a one-hour detention after school the same day .

There is a clear link between attendance and academic achievement, and as Sixth Form students we expect you to take responsibility for your own success by ensuring that you attend every lesson and seminar and that you are always on time.

• Students must arrive by 8:20am for an 8:30 start to avoid a one hour late detention after school .

Our ambition at The Petchey Academy Sixth Form is to develop independent and accomplished learners, ready for whatever path you decide to follow next .

The Petchey Academy

Every lesson counts, Behaviour for learning & expectations

• Any absence during term time can seriously adversely affect progress and achievement . You must not take holidays during term time .

The Petchey Academy has a firm belief in the importance of recognising and rewarding positive behaviour through recognition in our weekly assemblies, café vouchers and Golden Tickets will be awarded for excellent performance in class which will lead to a prize at the end of each term and a bigger prize at the end of the academic year. Having plenty of positive comments to make about students is also a huge benefit when your tutors come to write personal statements to support university applications!

10

To help you to be successful, you are expected to be self-motivated and capable of independent study outside of your lessons for around 15 additional hours each week .

To support this and enable other students to study, we expect all students to study in silence in the Formal Study Area . Students will be timetabled to study in the FSA when they are not in class and will be registered . Students will have their lunch from 12 .40-13 .30 with the rest of the school . However, students are able to leave the building by signing out and returning in time for timetabled lessons or FSA Rewards & Support

18The Petchey Academy

At Petchey Sixth Form, there will be dozens of apprenticeship vacancies sent round by Ms Rampling . However there will be thousands more on the government's, and other websites . It is your job to set alerts for these sites and to get an excellent CV together showing plenty of experience so that your applications can be as strong as possible . Ms . Rampling can advise on CV's and on which apprenticeships you could apply for .

Apprenticeships are a great way to earn whilst you learn and to get straight on the job when you leave Sixth Form. It is a big commitment, much more similar to a full-time job than studying at university, and therefore you must be proactive in researching your options if you want to pursue this pathway.

There will also be a number of masterclasses and speakers throughout the year for those considering apprenticeships . Please look out for these and do attend even if you are unsure about whether this is the right pathway for you .
