HAT better than throwing open the doors to the alfresco when the hordes descend for a summer get-together? Indoor/ outdoor living really comes into its own when entertaining friends and family during the warmer months and the Inspiration by Aussie Living is no exception. Not only do the doors from the living area to the alfresco open up to create one large space, but the home has been displayed with optional bifolding windows that connect the alfresco to the home theatre. “People love the outdoor area and viewing bench into the home theatre,” says Anthony Oldershaw, brand manager at Aussie Living. “It’s fabulous for summer parties or watching the football in winter.” Anthony says the Inspiration shows that you don’t need big bucks to enjoy the latest trends. The bifolding windows and slim Essa Stone bar add approximately $5000 to the display price of $173,710. “The bifolding windows opening from the theatre to the alfresco indicate to our customers what can be achieved with a relatively modest budget,” Anthony says. Designed to offer couples or young families

both style and affordability, the Inspiration combines lifestyle with everyday functionality. Informal chats are encouraged at the kitchen island bench, with its integrated breakfast bar. There’s plenty of storage, including a doubledoor pantry and overhead cupboards, a recess for the fridge/freezer, and a stainless steel oven, cooktop and range hood. Family-friendly living spaces have an easy flow to them and the home has been thoughtfully zoned to provide that sought-after separation between the master suite and the three minor bedrooms. Providing a cut-out in the wall between the kitchen and the multipurpose activity room keeps littlies connected to the main living space while they’re studying, playing or on the computer. The Aussie Living design team has ensured the Inspiration offers plenty of design flexibility. While the activity and home theatre have been kept fairly open in the Lakelands display home, they can easily be enclosed to create more independent spaces. It’s in the master bedroom, however, that Aussie Living has taken “open-plan” to a new level.

Not only is the ensuite bathroom open to the bedroom, but also the shower has been designed so that it is completely exposed to the bedroom. “Inspiration was taken from resort hotels where there is a desire to keep this area open and intimate,” Anthony says. “That said, frosted glass or a tiled wall could be used for additional privacy if required.” Slim corner windows and highlight windows on one wall of the main bedroom not only highlight the sense of space inside, but they also contribute to the stylish front elevation. Designed to sit happily on a 15m-wide block, the Inspiration achieves good cross-flow ventilation and brings passive-solar principles into play. Anthony says this can keep ongoing heating and cooling costs down and help to reduce the home’s carbon footprint. Paula Evans
