BENEFACTORS CIRCLE
Roma Downey and Mark Burnett
Julie and James Cardwell
Amy (’98) and Chris (’98, MDiv ’02) Doran
You probably know Roma as the star of CBS’ Touched By An Angel and Mark as the Emmy-winning producer of such hit shows as Survivor, The Apprentice, and The Voice. Mark was also named one of the world’s most influential people by Time magazine, and Roma is a successful producer, author, and philanthropist. Together they graced Pepperdine with their presence as emcees for the Campaign for Pepperdine launch dinner in 2011, and they’ve been loyal ambassadors of the University, giving generously to support the Institute for Entertainment, Media, and Culture; the Saint John’s Bible project; and the School of Law. The University is proud to count such accomplished, caring people among its friends.
Jim and Julie Cardwell joined the Pepperdine family through their son, Trey, a junior at Seaver majoring in media and film production. Their generous support of the Seaver College Communication Division continues their long history of involvement in education. The couple resides in El Paso, Texas, where Jim serves on the Board of Trustees at Lubbock Christian University and various committees at the University of Texas at El Paso and is an elder at Westside Church of Christ. He is also the president of C&R Distributing, a fuel/oil distribution company serving Texas and New Mexico. The University is grateful for the Cardwells’ investment in not only their son’s future, but the futures of many students to come.
Seaver College alumni Chris and Amy Doran first arrived as undergraduates on campus in 1994 and have remained involved with their alma mater ever since. Chris also earned his master’s degree at Seaver and is today an associate professor in Seaver’s Religion and Philosophy Division. Amy is an auditor, volunteers for the Malibu Labor Exchange, and is an adviser to Pepperdine’s Delta Gamma chapter. Together they are active members of the University Church of Christ; founders of the Faith & Education Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization distributing scholarships to Church of Christ students attending liberal arts schools; and fervent environmental policy advocates whose gifts support an annual speaker series on sustainability and creation care.
