Artwork & workflow guidelines
brand style
Image = main communication
Text = secondary information
This way text and image have a clear hierarchy giving the main focus to the image and supportive role to text
To keep the cover design clear and simple only two text sizes are used – 1) primary information and 2) secondary information

photography
To stand out in the current industry of classical music, photography approach should aim to combine the contemporary and the classic.
Dark and earthy tones can mix with light and vibrant colours, classic portrait can have a playful twist through light, shadow, colour and material.

Light through objects

Photography framing should consider space for cover text so image and text do not conflict with each other

Holland Baroque
Holland Baroque presents Bachs Königin, an album full of masterful organ works by J.S. Bach, transcribed for the orchestra by Judith and Tineke Steenbrink. These creative interpretations add unique colours and a fresh spirit to baroque monuments. Here is yet another chance to enjoy Bach’s genius.

On the cover we only place our Pentatone icon, but never another logo.

We do show the logos of our partners or coproducers proudly on the backside of our CD-packaging, in the booklet and on the CD label (see next page).

important workflow information
PENTATONE is committed to creating artwork in close consultation with the artist, aiming to realise a product that is recognisable as a PENTATONE release, while simultaneously conveying the story of the album and the underlying motivations of the artist/ensemble in question. In order to secure an efficient and streamlined collaboration, we provide some guidelines regarding the delivery of artwork material, as well as feedback loop guidelines.

Product design: artwork material delivery and feedback loop guidelines
Cover design:
• The product design, including the cover, will be made according to the Company’s brand guidelines, in close consultation with the artist/ensemble/ stakeholder.
• First cover drafts are sent to artist/ ensemble/stakeholder, including a feedback deadline, to be observed by the artist/ensemble/stakeholder.
• If artist/ensemble/stakeholder does not observe feedback deadlines and reminders, final decision to finalize the artwork without approval lies with the Company.
• There is a maximum of three rounds (original design + two adjusted versions) for cover art feedback and approval. If the artist/ensemble/ stakeholder does not approve one of the designs offered during the process, final decision lies with the Company.
• If stakeholders disagree about the preferred cover design, final decision lies with the Company.
Artwork materials delivery and text feedback:
• The product design will be made according to the Company’s brand guidelines, in close consultation with the artist/ensemble/stakeholder.
• Text materials must be proofread before being delivered.
• Photos should contain copyright credits for photographers and their rights should be cleared, unless there is an agreement between artist/ ensemble/stakeholder and the Company about rights clearance and/ or a photoshoot (co-)financed by the Company.
• Artwork draft files will be sent to artist/ensemble/stakeholder as PDFs, including a feedback deadline, to be observed by the artist/ensemble/ stakeholder.
• If artist/ensemble/stakeholder does not observe feedback deadlines and reminders, the final decision to finalize the artwork without approval lies with the Company.
• Feedback should be provided through comments in the PDF or as a list containing clear references to booklet page number and column of the passage concerned. A completely new text will not be accepted; comments have to be processed in the existing text as laid-out in the artwork draft.
• There is a maximum of three rounds (original design + two adjusted versions) for artwork. In general, the feedback loop should narrow down towards finalization. New comments concerning previously-overlooked matters can only be requested in case of serious errors.
• If stakeholders disagree about specific aspects of the product creation, final decision lies with the Company.
Reviewing artwork drafts is a shared responsibility of Pentatone and the artistic partner concerned. We request artistic partners to particularly check:
Booklet:
• work titles and opus numbers
• participating artist credits
• inclusion of logos Guidelines artwork reviewing for artistic partners
• production team credits and recording date and locations
• inclusion of logos, credits for sponsors or other contributors
Digipack:
• work titles and opus numbers
• participating artist credits
• inclusion of logos
