Dr. Wilson joins us with training in both pediatric otolaryngology and cranial base surgery. Our team of surgeons continues to lead in the field of transoral robotic surgery utilizing the Flex Robotic system.

We are thrilled to host the inaugural Penn State “The Cutting Edge – Update in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery” conference scheduled for Thursday, January 11, through Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort in Marco Island, Fla. Penn State Otolaryngology Now Offers Sialendoscopy We are pleased to announce that sialendoscopy and all related procedures are now offered at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center under the care of Genevieve Andrews, MD, otolaryngology–head and neck surgery. Diagnostic and interventional sialendoscopy is a minimally invasive approach used in the treatment of sialolithiasis and other obstructive salivary gland diseases to preserve the salivary gland and restore normal function. Small stones (4-5 mm) in the submandibular or parotid glands can usually be removed with baskets that fit through the sialendoscope. Larger stones may require ancillary techniques of fragmentation of the stone prior to basket removal, or combined endoscopic–transoral or endoscopic–transcervical removal of stones. Long-term, the obstructive-sialadenitis symptom control following these procedures is excellent. In the absence of stones on imaging, patients with chronic obstructive salivary symptoms can also be helped by undergoing sialendoscopy. Most patients with diagnostic sialendoscopy have strictures. Strictures of salivary ducts can occur in patients who have had previous injury to the duct, such as from a prior stone or in other conditions, such as juvenile recurrent parotitis, Sjogren syndrome or radioactive iodine-induced sialadenitis. Endoscopic dilation of strictures is often performed with very good results and good resolution of symptoms. Strictures can be endoscopically treated with various perforation and dilation methods. Sialendoscopy is a low-risk procedure that reduces the risk of neural injury in the face and oral cavity compared to gland removal surgery. Sialendoscopy is effective with the vast majority of chronic sialadenitits patients who undergo sialendoscopy not requiring subsequent sialadenectomy. We welcome your chronic sialadenitis patients and are happy to care for them with you with this innovative procedure of sialendoscopy. To refer a patient, please fax patient information to 717-531-6160, attention: Genevieve Andrews, MD, otolaryngology–head and neck surgery. For more information about sialendoscopy, please call Dr. Andrews at 717 531-8945.
