Welcome Chris and Olympic to AJ Kelly for Friday night football.
We hope to get a good crowd tonight and enjoy what will be a good game of football.
Looking back at last week’s draw with Lions, the coaching team was extremely proud of the effort and performance from the team. I thought we played some good football, created chances and defended well as a group.
Going down to 10 men and playing for 45 mins was a huge effort from the entire group. Everyone worked hard and contributed to the result. While we were disappointed with the draw, we can take a lot of positives from the performance and push on for the rest of the season.
Lachlan Hunter was man of the match and had to pull off some good saves to keep us in the game. Well done Choco!
Well done Obren, scoring his first goal for the club. Also, a big well done to Solomon scoring his first League goal of the season. We hope to see both boys score many more goals this season.
I would like to thank the supporters and sponsors for their continued support. We are Power.

Matches played (must make 30 fixture matches to qualify) Players in bold currently in squad
• Peninsula Power vs Olympic FC
Peninsula Power are in transition, there’s no arguing that, so collecting a point against a quality Lions, even at AJK, is a step in the right direction. Can they make the top four? Unlikely, but their standard of football will be top four for the rest of the year. Look out.
Olympic FC kickstarted their resurgence with a thumping 4-0 over BRY. And a fully deserved one as well. And with no Danny Driver or Pasquale Da Vita. Are they on the way back from oblivion? It’s going to take more than one win.
Tight contest between two teams near the bottom of the table but playing football good enough to be further up. Too tight to call. Prediction 2-2 draw
• Moreton Bay United vs Redlands United
Moreton Bay United continue to do what they do. A solid point against GCU last time out was another reasonably significant achievement. Plenty are willing to tip them to tumble out of the top four but there isn’t any basis for that assessment.
Redlands United picked up the red card that I suggested was coming but still managed to beat Eastern Suburbs last week. They definitely aren’t out of relegation trouble and could easily see their long ball game come apart at the seams.
Moreton Bay United are clearly the better of these two teams. The run on enthusiasm as opposed to Redlands who are fuelled by an angry coach. Prediction: MBU 2-0
• Rochedale Rovers vs Brisbane Roar Youth
Rochedale Rovers are THE form team in the league and arguably second best after Gold Coast Knights. Low scoring wins, upset wins, late draws…it’s always dramatic when they take to the park. Eventually they’ll come unstuck, it’s just a matter of when.
Brisbane Roar Youth were terrible last week, constantly allowing Olympic to get around the outside of them and conceding multiple opportunities in the area. But they are better than that. Will we see A-League youngsters in the side soon?
Rochedale must be clear favourites to win this, and deservedly so, but BRY had a solid defensive record until last weekend. Tighter than expected. Prediction: 1-1 draw
• Gold Coast United vs Lions FC
Gold Coast United aren’t what they were six weeks ago but they are still good enough to challenge anyone, and that includes the reigning premiers. Top four finish needs to be wrapped up soon and this is the perfect opportunity.
Lions FC are playing solid and sometimes spectacular football but not beating Peninsula last week just isn’t good enough to meet their lofty standards. Something is not quite right, everyone can see that, but they’ll probably end up winning the Grand Final anyway.
Lions have too many stars not to think they should win every match. This looms as their most important of the year. Prediction: Lions 2-1
• Gold Coast Knights vs Brisbane City
Gold Coast Knights should have beaten Redlands in mid-week by the time you read this, stretching their lead at the top of the table. They are finally going to win the league provided games like this don’t turn into a banana skin.
Brisbane City obviously won’t have given up the top four chase but last week’s loss to Rochedale ensures they won’t make it because they are too far behind Lions. It remains to be seen if the wheels will eventually fall off when the games become meaningless. Not yet though.
Gold Coast Knights deserve to be favourites in every game now but will still have to break down that sturdy City defence. Prediction: GCK 1-0
• Eastern Suburbs vs Sunshine Coast Wanderers
Eastern Suburbs can still escape relegation, mathematically, even if they lose this game. That’s not the truth, however. If they lose this one it’s goodnight sweetheart, goodnight. The way they have been playing suggests they need a major slice of luck,
Sunshine Coast Wanderers can feel Olympic breathing down their necks. They haven’t been particularly bad but aren’t getting the results they need. All the pressure will be on them here. If they go behind it could be curtains. Unlikely.
Game of the round. Easts are terrible, we know that, so no one in their right mind can tip them. Wanderers can’t afford this to be a slip up. Prediction: SCW 2-1

The U16’s continue to work at their game in training and on game days.
Despite the ongoing injuries, the effort and dedication to each other is to be admired. In a very competitive age group we are holding our own, picking up some wins but consistency is a problem. A big thank you to the U15 players who put their hand up to back up every week.
Congratulations to our TSP players Josh and Judd on the recent carnival and our players selected in Representative School Football.
Hopefully we can put a few wins together in the last round of fixtures and finish in the top half of the competition.
We returned to training this week following a break over the school holidays. We are about to commence round 3 of our competition with 9 games remaining in the season.
We will be aiming to embed our playing style consistently across the remaining games in the season as we lost our way in recent games. In addition to our standard principles of play we will look to improve how we play when we are under pressure from opponents, defending in the box and our build up to create and finish attacking opportunities.
Congratulations to Jack, Kuer, Noah and Torin on their selection in FQ TSP Metro program. The players got to play games in a tournament run by FQ with four FQ Metro teams and regional teams from around Queensland during the second week of the school holidays.

Tell us about your football career, where you started and what you have achieved. I started in under 10s with the boys at NYU then into under 14 girls as an 11 year old. Played with that team until I was old enough to play in the premier Womens squad, which I played in for 2 years. I’ve won a few club awards like clubs highest achiever and player of the future. I’m most proud of winning the Sunshine Coast grand final last year, player of the grand final and golden boot as well as 2020 Sunshine Coast player of the year. Moving to Power last year and having almost the dream season with the team, winning the premiership and going undefeated was amazing.
• Describe your playing style. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
I definitely have a bit of a chaotic playing style. My strengths are my speed and acceleration as well as the power I can get behind the ball. Weaknesses would be sometimes I overthink, take a few to many touches before shooting or passing.
• Do you have any pregame routines or superstitions
I take my shin pads to warm up but don’t put them on until I just before I walk on the pitch then I jump up and down twice and run on the spot before the whistle blows.
• Describe one of your unforgettable football moments.
The game we became FQPL Premiership winners last year. The feeling of going undefeated with the best group that felt like family was indescribably amazing.
• Who are your football heroes?
Definitely Hayley Razo and Sam Kerr.
• What are your interests and hobbies outside of football?
I love the beach, surfing and pretty much every other sport in general. I also love art, painting, drawing and making films
• What are you looking forward to this season with Power?
I’m looking forward to my first season in NPL and the challenges that will come our way. Doing it with the best team I could possibly ask for has definitely got me excited. I’ve learnt so much from this team and the coaching staff already and I can’t wait to improve as an individual and as a team.
