May Events Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital Becoming a Recovery Friendly Employer Tuesday, May 3, 11:00 a.m. to noon Virtual class Whether you are looking to hire individuals in recovery or better support individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) in your organization to increase retention and decrease health care costs, this series will provide you with information on how to break down stigma and bias and support your employees with SUD. This class will meet several Tuesdays throughout the spring as part of an ongoing workshop. Pre-registration is required in order to obtain virtual access. Alzheimer's Disease Support Group Tuesday, May 3, 6:00 p.m. Virtual Meeting The Alzheimer’s Support Group provides information and support to area residents who have loved ones coping with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Gentle Birth Tuesdays, May 3 - 24, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Virtual class Enjoy this new approach to child birth class that combines brain science, birth science and technology to empower your positive birth through preparation. This class will include training and education in mindfulness, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and sports psychology. A mobile app will also be able to enhance the learning experience. Take a Break with Guided Meditation Wednesdays, May 4, 11 & 25, noon to 12:30 p.m. Virtual class Making time in your day to recharge can be as simple as tuning in for as much of this short meditation break as you can. The class will begin with a 15 to 20 minute guided meditation, followed by five minutes of silent meditation and a brief time for reflections and questions. Breastfeeding Class Wednesday, May 4, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Virtual Class This single two-hour class provides a pre-birth opportunity to ask questions and learn about breastfeeding and returning to work. Happy Wanderers Hiking Group: Hodson Preserve, Camden Thursday, May 5, 10:00 a.m. to noon Head of Tide Preserve, Belfast Coastal Mountains Land Trust is offering monthly guided hikes, free and open to all ability levels. This hike is 2.2 miles and the level is easy. The group will meet at trailheads throughout Knox and Waldo counties on the first Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. This hike will be led by CMLT staff members and a PBMC Community Health Improvement team member. Naloxone Training Monday, May 9, noon to 1:00 p.m. Virtual class Naloxone is a life-saving medication that is used to counter the effects of drugs like heroin and prescription narcotics. Join providers from Pen Bay Medical Center to learn how to use naloxone to save the life of anyone who is experiencing an opioid overdose. Join facilitator Moriah Hersey, OTD, OTR/L, for this informative and interactive support group where you can share your struggles with concussion; learn more about concussions, treatment and outcomes; and connect with others who have had similar experiences. This class provides a culinary-enhanced nutrition education program that teaches participants how to plan, budget and shop for meals that are healthy, tasty and low in cost.
