NOW ACCEPTING SUMMER NURSING STUDENT EXTERNS The Department of Nursing at Pen Bay Medical Center (PBMC) and Waldo County General Hospital (WCGH) is offering a summer Nursing Student Extern program in partnership with the University of Maine (UMA) • The program provides career growth opportunities to current employees who are enrolled in the UMA Nursing Program, as well as engages external students in opportunities at PBMC or WCGH prior to their last year before graduation.
• Tuition Assistance for this course is provided through philanthropic support. • Under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, and within the scope of practice and policies, this experience provides nursing students with patient care opportunities as a CNA and as a nursing student.
• Provides temporary summer employment for nursing students seeking additional clinical experience • Must be a University of Maine Augusta (UMA) nursing student in good standing and registered in the NUR396E course • Must be a certified CNA on the State of Maine Registry • Additional hours are available if interested in working as a per diem CNA • UMA course begins week of May 13th and ends August 16th; Extern program aligns with UMA schedule • The schedule includes 8 or 12 hour shifts, scheduled 24 hours/week • PBMC or WCGH Nursing Student Extern » Application deadline: February 23, 2024 » Interviews held the weeks of February 26 and March 4, 2024 » If selected, first day of work is Monday, May 13, 2024 FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM
