Pen Bay Medical Center & Waldo County General Hospital December Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting Tuesday, December 1, Noon to 1:45 p.m. Quarry Hill, 30 Community Drive, Camden Holiday merry-making dominates the agenda for the group’s next meeting. Members will socialize and enjoy holiday goodies, potluck style. After, the group will break into discussion groups to share ideas and insights. Free & open to those living with Parkinson’s, their family members and caregivers. No registration necessary. Mother’s Milk Support Group Tuesdays, December 1 - 29, 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Pen Bay Medical Center Chapel Room, 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport A support group for breast feeding families. The informal group provides interaction as well as individual assistance when needed. Pregnant moms wanting more information about breast feeding are also welcome. Beginner Zumba Tuesdays, December 1 - 15, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Belfast Dance Studio, 109 High Street, Belfast Led by Nicki Dunbar, the class is tailored to the beginner exerciser and blends Latin and International music with the songs you know and love. The goals are to increase strength, flexibility, agility and balance while burning calories. Chairs will be provided for those that need a quick break. Wear indoor fitness shoes. Sibling Program Wednesday, December 2, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. Pen Bay Medical Center Birth Center, 6 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport Children will learn about newborns and how to interact with them. Some safety lessons will be shared along with a discussion of their new role as big brothers and big sisters. Free, please call 921-8345 to register. Holiday Tree Lighting Wednesday, December 2, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Anchor Drive, Pen Bay Medical Center Campus, Rockport We will honor Sussman House patients and their families as well as many of the organizational partners who have made the Sussman House and Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice a success. The program will take place under the tent at the Pen Bay Creative Learning Center parking lot and will be followed by a lighting of spruce trees along Anchor Drive. The event is free and open to the public, light refreshments and holiday entertainment will be provided. Donations and sponsorships are welcome. We will spend this time easing into our bodies through breath work & gentle connecting postures. There will be time in each class for a restorative posture and a final deep relaxation. Adult Education: Health Care Directives "Back to the Future" Planning Wednesday, December 2 and 9, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Camden Hills Regional High School, 25 Keelson Drive, Rockport This 2-session course will cover Advance Care Directives, Living Wills, Medical Power of Attorney, the “Agent”, POLST, and DNR’s. You will be assisted in completing a personal directive. Private consultations with an Advance Care Planning Facilitator will be offered as well as assistance with signature witnessing and delivery of completed documents. Ages 18+. Registration $10. Women at Every Season: "Exploring the Dimensions Within" Thursday, December 3, 9:00 a.m. to Noon Quarry Hill, 20 Community Drive, Camden Quarry Hill continues its four-season celebration of mature womanhood with a half-day event that takes its cue from late autumn. The emphasis will be on reflection, and "going deeper into ourselved by connecting more deeply with other women." Thoughtful discussion will revolve around the longings of the spirit and the wisdom gained through the many seasons of a woman’s life. Presenters/facilitators will include Linda Zeigler, RN, nurse educator; Denise Tailby, NP-C, nurse practitioner, Pen Bay Medical Center Senior Services; Hilary Carr-Jones, LCSW, retired social worker; and Rev. (Fun Interval Training) Monday, December 7 and 14, 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. East Belfast Elementary School gym, 14 Swan Lake Avenue, Belfast A fun fitness class intended for all levels led by Mirja Pitkin. F.I.T. is structured to improve the three primary aspects of fitness: strength, cardiovascular capability and range of motion. Class includes a comprehensive warm-up followed by cardiovascular intervals alternating with strengthening exercises. The class ends with abdominal work and stretching. No registration necessary.
