It was also special in that we hosted international delegates from the GFMAM (Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management) and the WPiAM (World Partners in Asset Management). In the end, the conference was deemed a

In February we announced that the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM), a non-profit organization that has developed a Global Certification Scheme to provide a means for the global recognition of asset management competency, had assessed PEMAC’s education programs and determined that individuals who have completed all or part of PEMAC's Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) and Asset Management Professional (AMP) program will receive significant credit toward the knowledge requirements for CTAM, CPAM and CSAM Certifications. and asset systems are designed, design criteria must evolve to the new realities of rising temperatures and frequent adverse weather conditions in general. The ‘100 Year Flood’-type probability models will likely need to change, as we have seen tremendous devastation resulting from floods and other recent extreme weather events. Most asset managers are managing assets currently in use and don’t have the luxury of re-design. They must re-evaluate how they manage their assets in this new operating context. President's Message Jean Pierre (J.P.) Pascoli As for AI, while it does bring cause for concern in terms of social impacts, for most asset managers AI is seen as something quite powerful for the optimization of the management of physical assets, be it in the design, build/construction, or operating and maintain phases of an asset’s life cycle. However, it is still early days. There is much to learn and understand about AI and other digital technologies that are enabling the larger digital transformation in organizations. As 2023 edition of the MainTrain conference came to an end, so started the planning of MainTrain

2024. We are excited to announce that once again the event will arrive in a new location of this great and sprawling country of ours, this time in Saint John, New Brunswick, home of PEMAC corporate member Irving Pulp & Paper who promise to make it an event to remember. It will undoubtedly be another great and important means for our members to connect, learn, and contribute. The conference will run from September 23 to 25, 2024. This is my last message to readers through this medium as my 3-year term as president of PEMAC comes to an end in December. It’s been an honour and pleasure to serve our members in this

capacity, a fitting end to a decade of volunteering and serving as a member of the board of directors, including two successive terms as Vice President. During this time there has been tremendous growth for PEMAC and I’ve had the opportunity to work with some excellent people. However, it is now time for someone else with a fresh set of eyes and ideas to have this wonderful opportunity to help lead such a great organization with so much potential.

Members in Action: Chapters PEMAC Fort McMurray Chapter On October 17, 2023, the Fort McMurray Chapter of PEMAC hosted a Professional Development and Networking event, attended by maintenance and asset management professionals from the Fort McMurray area. The event, provided a prime opportunity for learning and networking among local experts and enthusiasts. Highlights of the Event The central theme of the event was "Why Hydrogen in Canada - Alberta?" The presentation, delivered by Dr. Indika Arachchi, Chair of Power Engineering at the School of Trades and Technology, Keyano College, focused on the significant role hydrogen plays as a sustainable and efficient energy source. Insights on Hydrogen Economy: The presentation highlighted how Canada, and particularly Alberta, is poised to lead the way in developing a competitive hydrogen economy. Dr. Arachchi detailed how Canada's rich resources, technological expertise, and international relationships place it at an advantageous position. He emphasized that by 2050, Canada could see substantial economic benefits, a transformed oil and gas sector, and a reduction in emissions through hydrogen use. Alberta's Role As the largest hydrogen producer in Canada, Alberta has the resources, expertise, and technology necessary to quickly become a global supplier of clean, low-cost hydrogen.

Dr. Arachchi noted the potential of hydrogen as a major energy export, which could significantly fuel job creation, investment, and economic opportunities across the province. Keyano College’s Initiative A significant part of the discussion centered around Keyano College's initiative to start a research facility focused on hydrogen energy. This initiative aims to equip School of Trades graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary for the evolving energy landscape.

GTA Chapter In October, PEMAC’s GTA Chapter had their first in-person event since November of 2021. The central topic of the session was "Take on Sustainability: How to Achieve Your Green Goals with the Help of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)." The interactive event aimed to provide attendees with practical knowledge and tools to align maintenance and asset management strategies with their management strategies with their organization’s sustainability goals. It emphasized how implementing CMMS can not only assist in achieving green targets but also ensure operational efficiency. Participants had the opportunity to gain actionable insights on integrating sustainability into their practices. The event served as a platform for sharing experiences, discussing challenges, and brainstorming solutions, facilitating a rich exchange of ideas among professionals.

For every grad of the PEMAC MMP program I personally pick up their certificate, get it framed in a standard frame (the identical frame to my own certificate), and deliver it to them at a photo-shoot.

We recognize their achievement at the site’s monthly staff meeting which also helps to promote and influence others to enroll in the program. The organization must emphasize the most important decision you make is how you make your decisions. Adopting a decision intelligence framework is the one decision that launches a thousand more quality decisions.

Adopting a Pragmatic Decision Intelligence Framework Subscribe to the DIKDAR principle (Data > Information > Knowledge > Decisions > Action > Results) but apply the principle backwards, as RADKID. Start with the desired results, then centre on the decisions required to achieve those goals and solve for the requisite knowledge, information/ analytics and valuable data. Building and implementing a functional

decision intelligence framework involves eight key elements contributing to quality decisions and consistent positive outcomes:

Value Framework Operations and asset management is about the pursuit of value. What exactly does that look

like in your organization? And what is the priority? There’s financial value from production and revenue sales, service cost and cost of goods sold. There’s non-financial value regarding safety and environmental performance, customer service, reputation to stakeholders, and social responsibility. Your mileage on labels may vary, but a shared understanding of what the organization truly values in pursuing business results should be shared.

Decisions bridge the application of resources on assets to deliver value.

THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION YOU WILL MAKE

IS HOW YOU WILL MAKE YOUR DECISIONS. DIKDAR Principle: Data > Information > Knowledge > Decision > Action > Results
