Pounds For Profit Sale

Welcome

Mark DeBoo stands as the third-generation steward of Diamond D Angus, a ranch deeply rooted in Montana’s Golden Triangle. The DeBoo family’s journey began in the 1950s with Charlie and Mary DeBoo, who were the only registered Angus breeders in the region at the time. Their acquisition of the influential bull, Pattern of Wye, set the foundation for what would become an enduring legacy.

In 1962, Don and Janet DeBoo—Mark’s parents—purchased their first registered Angus heifers and blended them with commercial cattle. From the beginning, they prioritized functional traits over fleeting industry trends, putting emphasis on maternal efficiency and structural soundness, often sourcing genetics from the historic Wye herd. This commitment to real-world functionality became the hallmark of Diamond D Angus.

After spending six years as a John Deere mechanic, Mark returned to the ranch in 1988 and helped usher in a new era with their first production sale in 1989. From selling 50 bulls out of an old barn to building a nationally respected program, Diamond D Angus has continued to evolve without losing its roots. By 2006, they transitioned to hosting fall production sales, offering forage-developed, long yearling bulls. Today, the ranch markets around 130 bulls and 100 bred females annually, with Diamond D genetics reaching across the United States, Canada, and Argentina. Mark’s breeding philosophy remains focused on functional, maternal, and efficient cattle. The ranch’s standards areunwavering—culling animals with poor udders, bad attitudes, or foot issues, and refusing to trim feet to mask problems. Their cattle are designed to be trouble-free, moderately framed, forage-efficient, and long-lived, with many cows still productive well into their teens. Traits like calving ease, carcass quality, efficiency, and longevity are not just buzzwords—they are necessities.

Mark DeBoo’s steadfast dedication to preserving and enhancing the classic traits that built the Angus breed has made Diamond D Angus a true legacy in the beef cattle world.

The Diamond D Advantage

•More Fertile and will cover more cows

•Will continue to gain weight throught first breeding season

•No bulls’ feet or legs ruined due to hot feed

•More years of service from forage bulls

•Less injuries and breeding problems

•Bulls are more conditioned to the environment

•Bulls have been put through a rigid test

If you want to produce cows that will last a long time, it is important to use bulls from a herd that has cows that have proven record of calving every year on time for 10 or more calves. We cull our herd for udder quality and temperament and refuse to trim feet. If an animal needs feet trimmed, we eliminate it.

Most pure-bred producers will make exuces for the problems you see on their cattle. The reality is almost everything you see is a result of genetics. When you listen to a producer talk mostly about performance and EPD numbers, chances are they have left most functional traits behind and the genetics will not last for very many years.

2025 WARRANTY OF FEET ON ALL BULLS SELLING

We feel very confident about the quality of feet we offer. The only way to clean up feet issues is to sell all cattle that have any issues. We have done this for years. Main stream Angus has been a train wreck when it comes to functional traits like feet. The chasers of EPD numbers have made great numbers and destroyed things like feet. We guarantee that the bull you buy will not develop any genetic problems with their feet until the bull is 5 years old. If the problem with feet is from injury or sickness of any kind this warranty will not cover the bull. Please call if you have any problems.

Performance Information

Line Breeding

In the notes of all the bulls selling, we talked about pedigrees in hopes of helping our customers understand our breeding program. We strongly believe that our customers greatly benefit from buying linebred bulls. The benefits include:

1. If you like what you see in a bull or cow family, by line breeding it intensifites these traits. A line-bred bull will breed more true to himself than a non-line bred bull.

2. Line breeding intensifies all traits, good and bad. If genetically there were a problem, it would show up in our herd. We would identify the problem and eliminate the use of these traits.

3. The cows and bulls that we have talked about in the notes have already gone through many generations of line breeding and put thorugh a very rigid test. To pass the test they need to be of moderate frame, easy fleshing, adequate performance, structurally correct, and good udder quality. The bulls must be very masculine.

Performance Key

BW - Birth Weight

Weight,Scrotal, & Hip Ht data was all pulled 10/21/25.

Calving Ease Prediction

1 Cow only

2 Fair calving ease

3 Good calving ease

4 Outstanding calving ease

This is only a prediction by Diamond D Angus. This is not a guarantee. The sire provieds only 1/2 of the genetics indetermining birth weight.

Temperament & Udder Score

Diamond D Angus feels it’s very important to record temperament and udder scores. There are no EPDs on some of these very important traits. Considering the safety of the crew and the ease of handling the cattle, we feel it’s well worth our time to score and cull the animals that don’t meet the standards we have set. The performance, efficiency, and meat quality will improve the docile cattle. There is no such thing as a perfect cow, and you have to decide which traits you want or need. Many years ago we started a program of keeping records on the temperament and udder qualities of our females. We score them from 1-5 in each category. Each of our bulls was given a score for his dam’s udder at time of birth. this and a score for his temperament are listed with each bull’s data.

Temperament Score

1 - Calm

2 - Slightly restless, shifting

3 - Squirming & occasionally shaking the squeeze chute

4 - continuous vigorous movement

5 - beserk, rearing & twisting

Udder Score

1 - Very good

2 - Above average

3 - Average

4 - Capable of raising a calf

5 - A non-functional animal

It’s hard to say enough good about this Great Plains son. He’s as close to perfect phenotype as a bull can be—phenomenal feet, athletic movement, and structural integrity that stands out in any pasture. His dam is a full sister to DDA Lodge E5H and a beautiful cow who weaned 10 calves here at Diamond D Angus. While much has been said about DDA Melisa 824, it’s worth spotlighting her dam, DDA Melisa 545—a cornerstone cow purchased years ago by Howrey Angus. Monte flushed her extensively, retained many daughters, and sold numerous sons, including MH Mick 53, whom we acquired. DDA Great Plains 77U was actively used this year in a multi-sire breeding group, and we expect his sons to carry forward the same balance, athleticism, and maternal strength. Don’t overlook them—they’re built to last.

This OCC Great Plains son is owned by North Fork Angus, Chinook, MT, and has served in our breeding pastures for three consecutive seasons. Now seven years old, he remains sound, active, and highly fertile. His dam, the influential DDA Galatea 859, is currently a flush cow for Lyoning Angus and Wyatt DeVries. A top-selling bull in their spring sale traces directly to her. We expect 135U daughters to be among the best cows we’ve ever raised—deep-bodied, quiet-tempered, and maternally driven. His pedigree is stacked with cow-making power: DDA Trouble Free 60Y, a double-bred OCC Great Plains son and triple-bred to the legendary Dixie Erica of CH 1019 DDA Melisa E808, dam of DDA Great Plains 77U and full sister to DDA Lodge E5H, both out of the prolific DDA Melisa 824 Zelda 119 DDA, double-bred to our cornerstone 580/368 cow family. This lineage reflects our commitment to longevity, maternal strength, and functional genetics.

If longevity and function are important to you, please take a look here. The mother of 142V is our DDA Hana 940 cow. She was an average sized cow that bred on time and gave no problems ever year until her death in 2018, she was 19 years old. She had 18 calves here at Diamond D Angus. Her mother is our Diamond Henretta 368 this is a cow that we have put in most pedigrees here at Diamond D Angus many times. She stayed in production until she was 20 years old. One more generation back is a cow that my father raised Miss Diamond Chance 065 who also stayed in production for more years than I have record of. The sire of this very correct young sire is HAR Pinebank 443/202 who has a mother that stayed in production until she was 17 years old. She also was a Diamond D Angus cow that was sold as a young cow at our sale. The Pinebank herd in New Zealand is the breeder of Pinebank Waigroup 41/97. They also have a great reputation of a great maternal herd. They are also the breeders to our Pinebank SE 9D bull. If you want to add function and longevity to your herd, this bull will do as good of a job as any other bull in the USA.

Longevity in our herd isn’t just a number—it’s proof of function, soundness, and maternal integrity. Our standard is simple: if a cow gives problems, she’s gone. That includes lost calves, runts, poor feet or structure, udder issues, bad temperament, or failure to breed back promptly. So when a cow is old and still here, she’s passed a rigid test—year after year. We’ve identified cow families that consistently pass this test across generations. DDA Hana 940 is one of them. She stayed in production until age 19, and her dam, Diamond Henretta 368, until age 22. We’ve retained sons from this line—DDA Bar Lad 177U and DDA Alliance 142V—born when Hana was 18 and 19 years old, respectively. In our view, cattle selected to be “the most” in any one trait often sacrifice something essential to get there. True balance comes from selecting for function, not extremes. That’s how longevity is earned—and why it matters.

Oak Lane Prism 410 carries an exceptional pedigree backed by one of the most flawless cows in the Oak Lane program of North Dakota. I had the opportunity to visit their herd in May 2024 and saw this remarkable dam and her offspring firsthand—she’s the kind of cow that leaves you searching for a flaw and coming up empty. 410 himself stands out for his phenomenal phenotype, with excellent feet, legs, and overall structure. His lineage reflects generations of soundness, maternal quality, and functional design—traits we value deeply in our program.

In 2014, I traveled to New Zealand to visit the Pinebank and Resurgam Angus herds—both 100% forage-developed for generations. While photographing cattle and environment, I captured an image of my favorite cow in the Pinebank herd. She was 17 years old at the time and had reached their elite “grannie” status. Bill Hodge of Sustainable Genetics later reminded me that she was the dam of Pinebank SE 9D and 10D—embryos he had imported and raised DDA Carrolton 45W is a son of Pinebank SE 10D and the 16th calf raised by our own DDA Ginny 458. His maternal line runs deep: DDA Ginny 604, his granddam, weaned 11 calves and traces to the same cow family as DDA Bar Lad 177U and DDA Alliance 142V. This family has proven itself through production, not excuses—every cow stayed because she earned it. Buy with confidence: DDA Carrolton 45W sons are built to sire daughters that stay in production for years to come, with soundness, fertility, and forage adaptability bred in.

Purchased from Ole Farms in Alberta, Canada, in their 2022 sale as a coming two-year-old, 775H brings together some of the most proven maternal genetics in our program. His grandsire, DDA Pinebank 50H, may be the best bull Ole Farms has ever acquired—tracing back to the prolific Melisa 206, who weaned nine calves here. That same productivity runs deep: DDA Melisa 003, another cornerstone cow, also weaned nine calves and ties directly to the cow family behind our influential DDA Fahren 21X. The dam of 775H is JAD Phylix 6157, a female with wide-reaching influence: She is the maternal granddam of Oak Lane Prism 410. She is also the dam of DDA Shoshone 130, sire of many standout females in our herd—including DDA Melisa 824. This bull represents the kind of maternal consistency, longevity, and structural soundness we strive to multiply. His daughters are expected to carry forward the same quiet disposition, fertility, and cow-making power that define this lineage.

This pedigree combines some of the best female-producing genetics from the OCC herd. We purchased two bulls from Bill Hodge at Sustainable Genetics in Georgia—Bill also managed the Wye herd for many years. He often spoke of the day Lodge of Wye sold at auction, a pivotal moment in Angus history. While trends have shifted over time, this bull reflects our commitment to functional traits over fleeting extremes and chase for that great EPD number.

DDA Back to the Future 26B is loaded with function and longevity. His sire, DDA Bar Lad 177U, traces to a cow still active in our herd — her last two sons are working today. His maternal line is equally impressive: DDA Hana 940 stayed in production until age 19, and her dam, Diamond Henretta 368, produced until age 22. On the sire side, Pinebank SE 10D hails from a New Zealand herd known for valuing longevity. I visited that herd in 2014 — the dam of 9D and 10D was still in the granny pen at age 17. We noted a slightly smaller frame in our critique, but the functional quality is undeniable.

DDA Cooper 135U was sold to North Fork Angus and has proven himself over time. His dam is owned by Loyning Angus and Wyatt DeVries and is a model cow in every sense. OCC Great Plains sired some of the most maternal cows to come out of OCC. DDA Jody 860 had her seventh calf here at the ranch, and her dam, DDA Jody 335, calved 15 times. Her sire, Favour of Wye, may be one of the most maternal bulls ever to walk the pastures at Wye Angus. His dam is a 177U daughter, making him linebred to DDA Hana 940, who herself is a daughter of 368 cow. Be sure to check out his ultrasound data—this bull has real herd sire potential.

DDA Bar Lad 177U must have been the dominant sire in the multi-sire group when this breeding took place. Diamond D Angus has focused on trouble-free genetics for over 50 years, while much of the mainstream industry chased EPD numbers. Now that functional traits have been lost, everyone seems to claim they have “function” in their herd—but true function takes generations to build. This bull reflects that long-term commitment.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—DDA Bar Lad 177U is a standout. He was still in the breeding group at 8 years old this summer, and he’s an unbelievable athlete, especially considering his age. What value does the industry place on an extra year or two of service from a bull or cow? To me, it’s significant. Many cows don’t break even until age four, and the average age for falling out of production is about four years old. Not here at DDA. Longevity is built into our program, not hoped for.

Another great pedigree rooted in function and longevity. I hate to sound like a broken record, but here we go: DDA 124X is one of the best-looking bulls we’ve ever raised. His sire is DDA Bar Lad 177U, and his dam is a HAR Pinebank 202 daughter. The dam of 177U stayed in production for 19 years, and her dam for 22. One of the things that drew us to the Pinebank herd in New Zealand was their “grannie cow” group—many of them were 15 to 20 years old. We’ve talked plenty about the strength in 77U’s pedigree, but let’s not overlook the grandmother here: DDA Banjo E2B, a full sibling to the legendary DDA Hana 940.

Have you ever noticed that most sale bulls come from pedigrees stacked with young cattle? Not at Diamond D Angus. Many breeders have used EPD numbers as their primary selection tool, and for years those numbers focused on terminal traits—traits suited for the feedlot, not the pasture. Very little emphasis was placed on function and longevity. But if you want those traits, you have to select for them. It takes years of disciplined breeding to build function into a herd—and that’s exactly what we’ve done.

Not only did she stay in production, she made up time. The dam of this bull had her 6th calf this spring—two years beyond the national average for calving—and she’s just getting started.

Another great bull linebred back to OCC Great Plains. I’ve said it many times—DDA Great Plains 77U, now 8 years old, continues to impress. His dam, DDA Melisa E808, was a model cow here at Diamond D Angus. For a bull his age to come through a multi-sire breeding group is remarkable. The most fertile, aggressive bulls tend to sire the majority of calves in those settings, which speaks volumes about his staying power. That kind of fertility matters—not just to bull buyers, but to the long-term health of your cow herd.

DDA Trouble Free 93B is the kind of bull that will leave a legacy of great daughters in your herd. On the maternal side, his dam was sired by a bull we sold into a cow-calf operation in Wyoming. Wayne Nelson of Cross H Cattle Company has been buying bulls from us since 1989—he may have missed a year or two, but not many. In the Buffalo, WY area, producers often mention his cow herd as one of the best around. We used a little semen to bring this cow back into our program, and she’s had 6 calves here at DDA. No question—I think the world of this 8-year-old bull. Be sure to check out his ultrasound data—it reflects the quality built into this pedigree.

There’s no question that DDA Chinook 96B will sire great females. The only real difference between him and our 77U bull is pedigree—but even there, the connection runs deep. Both trace to DDA Melisa 824. His dam, DDA Galatea 859, was every bit the model cow that 77U’s dam was. Her dam, DDA Galatea 031, also produced DDA B&T 18K. On the maternal side, the pedigree is lined up with Pinebank influence. DDA Zelda 674, in particular, was the best 41/97 daughter we ever raised. You’ll also find DDA Lodge E5H as the sire of DDA Just Right 89U, and at the very bottom of the pedigree is a halfsister to DDA Melisa 824—who may have been just as good as 824 herself.

DDA Lad Boy 99B comes from a maternal line that speaks for itself. His dam has had 9 calves here at DDA. His pedigree includes DDA Shoshone 70X—a Shoshone 130 son and full brother to DDA Melisa 824. We sold 70X back in 1996, and his influence still shows up in our best cows. His maternal granddam, DDA Melisa 044, was a Hyland BC 0668 daughter who also raised 9 calves. The sire, 124X, has developed into one of the best-looking bulls we’ve ever raised. He’s a son of DDA Bar Lad 177U, who was weaned when his dam, DDA Hana 940, was 18 years old. She rebred and gave us DDA Pinebank 142V—another herd sire we’re using today. The more I reflect on it, the more I appreciate the legacy of DDA Hana 940.

This bull comes from an elderly cow still in production at 16 years old—she’s weaned 13 calves here at DDA. With a pedigree like this, you can take him home and build a cow herd with real longevity and function. I see names in this pedigree that go back to when my father was a young man. Diamond Henretta 368 was bred in 1982, and the dam of DDA Fahren 5Z was born in 1997. I suspect this kind of age and production history doesn’t exist in many herds across the country.

Many breeders cull cows simply because they’re over four years old— chasing rising EPD numbers without understanding what true genetics are capable of in terms of function and longevity. After generations of this approach, they end up with terminal-bred cows that don’t last. Worse yet, they keep those cows, raise calves from them, and sell the sons as bulls. That kind of breeding produces terminal bulls. And while there’s nothing wrong with terminal bulls when used appropriately, they’re often sold as maternal bulls—leading to disappointment when they don’t produce trouble-free daughters. Many buyers don’t realize the game being played. At Diamond D Angus, we’ve chosen a different path—one built on longevity, fertility, and real-world performance. We’ve been on this path for over 50 years, and we know exactly why.

DDA Pondera sired many calves in his day. He was a natural son of Hyland BC 0668—not the largest bull, but one that consistently got cows bred. At 7 years old last year, he’d been beat up by younger bulls and unfortunately had to be salvaged. The sire to the dam of this bull is now 8 years old, and the maternal grandsire is DDA 21X. There’s a ton of longevity built into this pedigree—exactly the kind of genetics we’ve prioritized for decades.

This is a pedigree worth serious consideration. DDA Alliance 142V is one of the most correct bulls we’ve ever raised—and that’s saying something, given the number of structurally sound sons and daughters we’ve produced. He’s a maternal brother to DDA Bar Lad 177U, both out of the great DDA Hana 940, who stayed in production until age 19. Her dam remained in production until age 22. Zelda Diamond 902

After weaning 13 calves here at Diamond D Angus, DDA Zelda 148 has checked open. She’s in excellent condition and should flush well. My only concern is her size — she’s one of the largest cows we’ve ever produced. Her wean ratio stands at 105. Her pedigree is highly sought after by those who value function and longevity. She’s sired by Emulation N Bar 5522, and her maternal line traces to the legendary Diamond Henretta 368, who stayed in production for 22 years. Her granddam, DDA Zelda 3102, weaned 10 calves here. We will retain the right to flush this cow once at our expense.

After weaning 15 calves, the renowned DDA Fahren 21X daughter DDA Wendy 839 has checked open. The 21X daughters are among the quietest cows we’ve ever raised. I’m still using a young son of hers today. His sire, Fahren of Wye, helped shape our program. The 21X line consistently delivers calving ease — what I call homozygous for it. No matter what you breed 21X to, calving ease comes through. Wendy 839 posted a wean ratio of 100 and remains in excellent condition. We expect strong embryo production and will retain the right to flush her once at our expense.
