PROCESSES AND SUPPLY CHAIN INCORPORATING THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT -

In line with our commitment to the environment, PELLENC implements manufacturing processes which put the concept of sustainable development front and centre by incorporating them into our supply-chain and logistics-flow optimisation policy.

REDUCING AND OPTIMISING PACKAGING The PELLENC group has implemented a supply-chain policy aimed at cutting the quantity, volume, and weight of packaging in order to optimise the transport of goods, and thereby limit the environmental impact in terms of fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This policy also helps limit the direct impact of packaging on the environment (waste output). Packaging has been removed in favour of “bulk” wrapping for small, high-consumption supplies (screws and fittings, seals, etc.). This is also the case for medium-sized parts, which are not fragile, and are simply film-wrapped.

88

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY COMPANY

OPTIMISING LOGISTICAL FLOWS From the design stage, PELLENC incorporates the dimensional constraints associated with transporting our machines, equipment, and tools to make them as compact as possible, thus optimising transport volumes. The group has invested in software that maximises pallet capacity based on the shipping destination, both within France and internationally, taking both internal (production) and external (distribution) movements into account. That software also calculates the optimal route for trucks to take to reach all their delivery addresses. Together with improved packaging (bulk, skinpack, etc.), this has cut transport costs by 30% per part and resulted in a proportional reduction in the environmental impact of our shipping operations. Lastly, PELLENC uses maritime consolidation to make our container shipping as efficient as possible. This cooperative transport service with other companies enables optimum filling of containers, and thus limits the number of shipments.

Refurbishment of the Pertuis factory in France and the new factory at Jaen in Spain.

A STRONG ECO-CONSTRUCTION POLICY -

PELLENC takes account of the impact of buildings and production on energy expenditure and on the well-being of the teams working there.

REDUCING ENERGY CONSUMPTION In terms of eco-building, the PELLENC group's policy operates at two levels: design of buildings, mainly aimed at keeping heat losses to a minimum and optimising energy and water consumption; production of energy reports to monitor the actual performance of the buildings. For example, the latest PELLENC eco-building projects (new 10,000 m2 factory at Jaen in Spain, refurbishment of the factory at Pertuis, a new PELLENC Morocco building) incorporate the following features: • High-efficiency condensing boilers; • Chilled water used (no greenhouse gases);

to

cool

buildings

• Solar power production (PV); • Automatic lighting controls; • And more. Finally, PELLENC has produced an energy report showing that its eco-building policy is bearing fruit: measurements made on the head office buildings at Pertuis indicate energy consumption (electricity and heating) 28% (offices) to 80% (workshops) below average for buildings of comparable size in the same sector of activity as PELLENC (source: 2008 energy report – CEREN).

• Water treatment (separation and treatment of wastewater, rainwater, and hydrocarbons);

TRACTOR-MOUNTED SHAKER FB80 FRONT-MOUNTED SHAKER PELLENC’s expertise in shaker technology is available for tractor coupling. The clamp technology is effective, efficient, and gentle on the tree.

The PELLENC trunk shaker lets you shake loose the fruit without damaging the bark or smaller branches of the tree. Thanks to this technology, which is unique in the world, I am delighted to have reduced my harvesting costs while preserving my trees.” Very easy to operate, the FB80 is ideal for growers with a large number of trees. In my opinion, the PELLENC FB80 has three important advantages: its ease of handling thanks to the front coupling, its simplicity: any tractor driver can master it after some brief training, and the ease of uncoupling, which quickly frees up the tractor for other work.

Mr. Ali Kürshat AYVALIK - Turkey.

BUGGY 5000 S SELF-PROPELLED SHAKER BUGGY FOR EFFECTIVE, INTENSIVE, FAST, AND HIGH-QUALITY HARVESTING PELLENC has put its expertise in intensive fruit farming into the Buggy 5000 S. The operating comfort ensures a high yield and precise work to protect the trees.

The range of shaking sequences ensures that almost all the olives are shaken free, even in early harvesting with the varieties that we grow (picholine, aglandau), which are notoriously difficult to shake free from the tree. With all the cushions and flaps, we can work quickly without damaging the tree bark, regardless of the harvesting period or the age and size of the trees. We save so much time on harvesting that now we can offer our services to neighbouring plantations. Gilles Brun

Le Moulin du Calanquet - Saint Rémy de Provence, France

PELLENC PATENT

AUTOMATED TARPAULIN FOR FRUIT HARVESTING This highly innovative system can harvest up to 300 kg of fruit in a few minutes. Hitched to a tractor, the Expand consists of a ribbed tarpaulin and a conveyor belt that discharges the harvested fruit directly into one or two pallet boxes. The Expand makes harvesting much easier and vastly reduces the working time. The operation requires just two people (one for the Buggy and one for the Expand). The harvest is faster and of better quality. The Expand meets all the needs of fruit growers. Both versatile and easy to handle, it is suitable for most intensive fruit growing operations.

After several years of waiting with bated breath, I was totally won over by this harvesting system. It has all the features that I was hoping for. For example, a tarpaulin that unrolls fast and in a straight line, a drawbar that considerably improves the turning circle, high ground clearance for difficult terrain, optimised leaf removing thanks to the suction system, and last but not least, 50% faster harvesting.” Claude Coulange Commercial fruit grower - Cucuron, France

18

EXPAND R5090 HARVESTING

OLIVES’ LINE AND ALMONDS’ LINE CV45 TOWED HARVESTING MACHINE THE UNIQUE SOLUTION FOR SUPER-INTENSIVE OLIVE AND ALMOND HARVESTING. The only tractor-towed olive and almond harvesting machine specially designed for intensive high-density or Super High Density plantations. It protects your trees and provides unrivalled work quality. Labour saving: can be operated by one person on their own.

In 2011 we invested in our first MAVO PELLENC self-propelled machine. After six years of use, a cost-effectiveness study led us to conclude that the machine paid for itself in four years. We replaced the MAVO with the CV45. The CV45 has several advantages: the air conveying system requires no maintenance; the decompression chamber is much larger, which means we lose fewer olives; the soft catcher trays protect the trunks; the self-guidance system makes the operator's job much easier and protects both the trees and the machine; the possibility of using the tractor for other work; and the higher hourly yield. In conclusion, we are satisfied with the machine and have every confidence in PELLENC to continue to assist us going forward.
