Clydeport’s main terminals are King George V Dock, Greenock Ocean Terminal and Ardrossan. More than terminals With our strategically located ports and terminals in Scotland, England and Ireland we are able to offer a unique Irish Sea Hub connected by our shipping line, BG Freight Line. This offers a one stop solution for our container and unitised customers and seamlessly links with our daily LoLo connections.

Peel Ports can offer multiple port call options for operators bringing vessels to the Irish Sea: Liverpool, Dublin, Greenock and Manchester. Customers can go via Liverpool or European hubs into the Irish Sea, via BG Freight Line’s common user platform or with their own vessels.

Reducing the cost of empty containers The Irish Sea Hub addresses the imbalance of empty containers across the UK and Ireland. The North West can accumulate a large volume of empty containers, while the opposite is true of Scotland and Ireland due to their weighted share of exports. By triangulating a service into Liverpool, laden containers can be replaced by empty containers and then directly transhipped to Dublin and Greenock.

Efficient transhipment The opening of the Liverpool2 Container Terminal has brought the benefits of our Irish Sea Hub into sharper focus than ever. With global services able to call directly into the port, Liverpool acts as a feeder hub to Dublin, Greenock and Manchester. Services arrive in Liverpool full of import laden containers and are able to leave full of export laden containers.

Operated under one management and one platform, the Irish Sea Hub will simplify and streamline your business across the Irish Sea.

Strategic sites, effective solutions The challenge Global animal feed trader ADM Arkady imports significant amounts of animal feed into the UK through Liverpool and King George V Dock (KGV) in Glasgow. Thanks to its ongoing success, ADM Arkady knew it needed additional storage facilities portside in order to meet customer demand for its imports.

The solution Peel Ports undertook work to build new warehousing facilities in both the Port of Liverpool and King George V Dock (KGV) in Glasgow, which includes significant investment in extensive agribulks storage and handling facilities at both sites.

The port operator has supplied 700,000 sq.ft. of TASCC and ATEX compliant warehousing facilities across the group which has recently been supplemented with an additional 105,000 sq.ft in Scotland due to the success of ADM Arkady in the region, as well as extended port operating hours to create supply chain efficiencies for the customer.

The recent arrival of 21,000 metric tonnes of animal feed to Glasgow marked a significant milestone in the partnership.

King George V Dock

The city-centric gateway to Scotland Resting on the banks of the Clyde just ten minutes away from the bustling city centre of Glasgow, King George V Dock (KGV) is the main up-river port serving the region. Centrally located, the port terminal sits on the doorstep of Scotland’s extensive rail and motorway network, allowing for fast and easy distribution of cargo.

The versatile dock, which opened in July of 1931, is located on a vast site with 32.6 hectares of outside storage and 60,000 m2 of sheltered storage space. King George V Dock also boasts a 1586m long quay, including a 529m long riverside quay with a water depth of 8.5m.

The vast, flexible storage space, quay and water depth is complemented by state-of-the-art equipment including recent investments such as the purchase of a new multi-docker crane.

With the ability to handle all commodities, KGV currently handles biomass, agri-bulks, dry bulks, forest products, renewables, metals and project cargo commodities.

Greenock Ocean Terminal Home to Scotland’s deepest container terminal Our facilities at Greenock Ocean Terminal have immediate access to a local population of over 2 million people. Excellent links to Glasgow and the central belt, a railway station, two nearby airports and motorway access via the A8/M8 ensure that Greenock is ideally placed as a local transit hub.

An extensive 372 metre quay length and 12.6 metres draft allows vessels to be accommodated alongside with ease and simplicity. Three ship-to-shore cranes which now form an integral part of the Greenock skyline can lift between 35-40 tonnes with capacity of 13 containers across.

The opening of Liverpool2 has transformed the playing field, bringing deepsea connections much closer to Scotland and we are now in a unique position thanks to our Irish Sea Hubs. Mega ocean container ships can now call directly into Liverpool, which acts as a feeder hub to Greenock, Ireland and Manchester, allowing closer import and export routes to market.

We’re not short on storage areas either, Greenock Ocean Terminal is within a 50 acre site with a laden storage area of up to 7,000 TEU’s and an empty storage area of up to 3,500 TEU’s. An additional benefit is the 25,000 sq m modern multiuser warehousing with up to 80 reefer points and devanning facilities on site.

Marine Services

The following are available at all sites at Clydeport Vessel Booking

Marine Traffic Information

Berth availability must be agreed with the Berth Owner/ Operator and a booking is required to confirm times, submitted via the PORTLINKS service.

Clydeport (Harbour Authority) provides Local PortLochgilphead Services (LPS) and monitors VHF Ch12 from Callsign: Estuary Radio

Notices to Mariners are available on the Web Site https://www.peelports.com/marineinformation?port=glasgow

The Port can provide a variety of local Harbour Tugs, both ASD and Conventional with up to 66 ton bollard pull, stationed on the Clyde, which operate 365 days a year and 24/7.

Pilotage

Clydeport provides a 24/7 pilotage service and Pilots must be requested via PORTLINKS

Pilotage is compulsory for certain vessels, see Pilotage Directions on the Web Site NTM No.2)

The Port has a number of local companies that can provide maintenance support, (including Dry Dock facilities) and workboat support for various marine operations including barge moves, marine construction and maintenance support.

A PEC Scheme is provided, supporting regular port users

The Port has a number of local Commercial Diving companies that can deliver Port and Vessel Diving Engineering Services.

Towage

Tugs are available in the port to meet all customer requirements. Guidance on towage requirements is available on the Web Site. Requests can be submitted via PORTLINKS and a Booking must be made directly with your chosen service Provider

Mooring

Mooring/Line handling services are available as required.

Request for mooring assistance should be made via PORTLINKS

Stevedoring

Clydeport provides specialist cargo handling services at each of its Terminals. The Terminal Operations Manager will provide advice where required.

Workboats & support craft

A range of professional service providers and craft are available in the port. Details are available on the Web Site

Diving

Specialist diving contractors are available in the port as required

Consultation and advice

Clydeport Marine provides advice and assistance to support business in the port. There is extensive availability of safe anchorages for possible long-term use. Consultation on short/long term Mooring, Vessel Lay-up, complex towage and other projects is strongly recommended. Contact the Marine Dept at Greenock Ocean Terminal
