Neighborhood Watch New Chair I would like to introduce myself, my name is Donna Scoggins and I am the new chair for the Stone Canyon Neighborhood Crime Watch. As one of the original owners, I have heard and also been affected by the car break-ins through the years. Unfortunately this is something that we will never be able to stop completely. But just like graffiti, the best way to deal with it is to take it seriously and react quickly. If you or one of your family members is affected by crime please let me or your block caption know ASAP. The quicker we can get this information through the community, the more alert your neighbors with be and hopefully the criminals will have less opportunity the next time. Other than the wonderful block captions that volunteer their time and efforts, joining the neighborhood Facebook page (STONE CANYON Neighborhood Group – ROUND ROCK, TX) is a wonderful way to stay connected. Also, I am proud to announce that one of our four-legged residents was found within hours of being posted on our community FacbBook page. So the next time you talk to your neighbors, remind them of the great work that the Facebook page is doing and recommend that they join. A few of Donna’s tips to consider: • Never leave anything in your car. A burglar has no idea if that empty paper bag has anything in it or not. Burglars have been known to break car windows for less.

• Change out your old traditional garage door remotes for ones that fit on your key chain. Burglars have been known to break into cars and enter homes with garage remotes. • If and when you move into a home that you have purchased, remember to rekey the doors and reprogram the garage remotes. If you move into a lease property, the property management company is required to rekey the property, but very few reprogram the garage remotes. So make sure you reprogram your garage remotes. • Leave a radio on in your garage at all times. A burglar will assume someone is in the garage. • If you have a large bush in your front yard you might want to cut it down. This could be a great place for a burglar to hide behind. • If you are going out of town purchase a timer that will turn your lights on and off and have your neighbor pickup your newspapers. • If you are like me and you like to leave your windows up a little while you sleep start using thumb locks on your windows. They can be easily attached to a window to keep someone outside from opening it any more that it is. Please feel free to contact me directly if you don’t know who your block caption is or if you want to volunteer to be a block caption. Donna Scoggins 512-423-5901 Donna@ LetsGoToEscrow.com
