2013 Annual Report

Head Coach I have spent 19 years (of PediPlace’s 20 years) watching PediPlace grow. It has been an impressive journey. Simple words cannot express the pride felt by the Board of Directors for the progress made in 2013. PediPlace accomplished so much last year through the hard work and dedication of its staff, volunteers, community partners, contributors and executive leadership. We were able to secure a location, design, build and open a new clinic to treat our patients in Dallas County all while having one of our busiest years ever at the original southern Denton County location in Lewisville. PediPlace continues to be the medical home for 6,000 children and now provides two locations from which to choose and the capacity to serve 4,000 additional children.

Our accomplishments were highlighted last year with: • Successfully completed $400,000 for our Dallas clinic capital campaign • Healthcare provided to 5,892 kids in 22,587 office visits • Raised over $800,000 from foundations, corporations, and individuals • An extremely successful Gala that raised over $64,000 With its mission as the guiding light leading PediPlace, the addition of the second location led PediPlace one step closer last year to “Making Healthcare a Reality for Every Kid.” This could not have been accomplished without the generosity of our funders, led by HCA North Texas Division, and the donated time of Board member and architect, Jonathan Aldis and his firm SHW Group in providing the design of the new location. Moreover, Balfour Beatty Construction donated its construction fee as it built out the space. None of this could have been accomplished without the executive leadership coordinating with the end result in mind.

As our patients at both clinic locations know, PediPlace continues its 20 year vision to provide more access to quality healthcare for children reducing barriers wherever it sees them – now in two counties. With this, we can press forward with a clear purpose, and your support, to make healthcare a reality for every kid.

Personal Training PediPlace is one of the very few non-profit pediatric primary care healthcare organizations exclusively serving uninsured children and children with Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) benefits.

PediPlace addresses the healthcare crisis for these underserved populations, resulting in healthier kids and less hospitalizations and specialty care, and reducing absenteeism from work for parents and school for children.

Powerlifting

Texas is second only to Nevada with the highest percentage of uninsured children. Because a limited number of private practice physicians accept Medicaid and CHIP, PediPlace continues to see an increase of patients seeking services.

Since 1994, we have provided care to over 19,125 children in more than 290,000 office visits.

For more than 20 years, PediPlace has provided a healthy start in life for thousands of youthful boys and girls; thus, allowing them to grow up strong. Healthy Kids

Well-child preventative care is a vital component of PediPlace’s services.

Having PediPlace as their medical home ensures that children are diagnosed and treated early, resulting in less hospitalizations and specialty care.

Through our Healthy Kids program, children receive annual physicals, well child visits, and immunizations.

We provided more than 12,742 immunizations in 2013 for 3,003 patients!

PediPlace patients ages 0-18 received immunizations as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Texas Vaccines for Children Program.

Healthy Babies PediPlace’s Healthy Babies program provides the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended 6 well visits at no charge to our families of uninsured children ages 0-15 months.

85% of these patients received the six recommended well child visits

Illness to Wellness

Our Illness to Wellness Program provides care for sick children with illnesses such as flu, sore throat, viruses, and follow-up care for children with chronic illness such as asthma, ADHD, and obesity.

Our goal is to ensure that uninsured and underinsured sick children receive the proper medical care needed to recover.

86% of patients are able to schedule an appointment the same or the next day

Group Exercise Our Parents of Newborn Children Class occurs in conjunction with a child’s prescribed two week check-up. The thirty minute class provides parents with the knowledge and tools to help their newborns grow up healthy and includes information about check-ups, immunizations, nutrition, when to and when not to use the emergency room, early developmental expectations, and basic child safety.

Parents of 283 children attended classes.

Reach Out and Read

PediPlace promotes literacy at an early age!

Each patient receives an age appropriate book at the beginning of every well visit, ages six months through five years.

Literacy is promoted, a library established, and stronger reading readiness at kindergarten and first grade is achieved.

1,382 children received 2,131 books through PediPlace’s Reach Out and Read Program.

Gym Members Volunteers are a welcome addition to our agency and clinic team. Visiting volunteer physicians, medical professionals, and nursing students supplement our medical staff.

Individuals and groups may provide in-kind donations or volunteer for one-time projects or as daily, weekly, or monthly scheduled additions to our team.

503 people volunteered with PediPlace, providing 13,673 total volunteer hours.
