Color Me Healthy 2015 Annual Report

AMessage from our Board Chair and CEO We are proud that PediPlace celebrated many accomplishments this past year due to the outstanding work of our dedicated healthcare employees. In addition, PediPlace benefited from the skills of Board leadership and over 1,000 volunteers, including medical professionals, community partners and contributors who provided 7,569 service hours in 2015. PediPlace’s vision of providing quality, compassionate, family-centered healthcare to North Texas children with limited access to care was validated in that 96% of our patients consider PediPlace their medical home. The hard work and dedication of the staff resonates with our patients. In 2015, PediPlace provided primary pediatric healthcare services to 6,505 patients in 24,558 office visits and established 1,933 new patients, including 543 newborn children. Kevin Rogers, PediPlace Board Chair 2015

PediPlace is one of the very few non-profit pediatric primary-care healthcare organizations in North Texas dedicated exclusively to serving uninsured and underinsured children. Through pediatric services and programs, PediPlace meets the unique needs of each patient. Healthy children mean a healthier community with better students, better employees, and better lives. In an effort to further expand access to healthcare for low-income patients, we are proud to announce that the Lewisville Independent School District and PediPlace collaborated to launch a school based PediPlace clinic inside Central Elementary School in early 2016. This direct collaboration allows PediPlace to be best positioned to meet the primary healthcare needs of area school children. An in-school clinic promotes wellness, adds resource to the school community, provides direct education to parents and educators, and can reduce absenteeism from school for children and work for caregiver/parent. As we reflect on 2015, we are so grateful that PediPlace is able to increase the general health of our children and their families by providing quality healthcare to those most in need. PediPlace has served the North Texas community for over 20 years and is committed to serve for many more years to come. Please join us in making healthcare a reality for every kid!

Larry Robins, PediPlace President and CEO

Sincerely,

Kevin Rogers, Ed.D. Board Chair 2015 Superintendent of Schools Lewisville Independent School District

Illness to Wellness

The Illness to Wellness Program addresses the acute care needs of local children. Acute care needs includes brief or ongoing episodes of illness. The program provides care for sick children with illnesses such as flu, sore throat, viruses, and ear infections and follow-up care for children with chronic illness such as asthma, ADHD and obesity.

Creating Healthy Minds and Bodies

Healthy Babies PediPlace’s Healthy Babies Program provides the American Aacademy of Pediatrics recommended six well visits at no charge to our families or uninsured children ages 0-15 months.

While our programs provide much needed medical care when our patients are in our offices, problems arise when uninsured patients are unable to follow through with their prescribed medical care due to their inability to afford prescription medications or lab tests. In order to help PediPlace’s patients complete their full cycle of care, the Family Care Fund provides financial assistance for laboratory tests and prescription medication to uninsured children.

Learning the techniques Parent Education Classes We are concerned that new parents receive the appropriate education about providing care to newborn children and proper instruction on how to and when to access our services. Our Parents of Newborn Children Class occurs in conjunction with a child’s prescribed two week check-up. The thirty minute class provides parents with the knowledge and tools to help their newborns grow up healthy and includes information about check-ups, immunizations, nutrition, when to and when not to use the emergency room, developmental expectations and child safety. The class is provided by PediPlace licensed providers in English and Spanish.

Sharpening Minds Reach Out and Read Designed to prepare kids for school, Reach Out and Read builds upon the unique partnership between parent and medical provider. Each patient receives an age appropriate book at the beginning of every well visit, ages six months through five years. By the time the child is six years old, they will have accumulated a library of 18 books designed to expand children’s vocabulary and cognitive skills. Literacy is promoted, a library established, and stronger reading readiness at kindergarten and first grade is achieved.

1,258 children received 964 age

appropriate a nd culturally sensi tive books!

PediPlace cared for all four of my children for years and even saved my son’s life when he was a baby. They take the time to listen and notice things that other providers do not and make an effort to know and understand our family.

It is truly inspiring how 23 years ago a dedicated group of physicians and nurse practitioners met the challenge to create a medical home for children who are often neglected because of economic needs. With a long history of good medical practice and loving care, PediPlace has expanded to two clinics, and it has been a privilege to be a part of this growth for the past 12 and a half years.
