Dear Families, At our first meeting this year, I told the staff that I’m surprised each fall by my excitement over the start of a new school year. It is no different this year, and we are off to a great start. Education has changed so much in the past twenty or thirty years. Over the last three decades, much research has been done in the field of early childhood education. Approaches to teaching have evolved that encourage children to be thinkers, problem solvers and innovators. The Reggio approach is a more balanced approached to learning than a teacher directed instructional approach. Through this pedagogical approach, we can obtain many beneficial academic skills following children’s curiosities, inquiries and interests. Children are unique with different needs and abilities. Their wonderings and their knowledge are different, too. Educators must be acutely aware of these differences and able to respond accordingly. The daily schedule at Peachtree allows time for much needed complex play instead of short periods of interrupted activities that don’t allow complex work to happen. Working in this manner required that educators keep the excitement of that first day for the entire year! We look forward to working and learning together this year. Miss Jane
