DEAR FAMILIES, The joy in our hallways with educators, families and children is apparent each day. As you know, we believe that the environment is important for children’s quest for knowledge. Each day, the children enter an environment with rich palettes of paint, complex wooden blocks, natural provocations, story prompts, sensory experiences and more. These experiences provide the framework for literacy development (children’s knowledge of reading and writing). Teachers observe and research the children as they communicate their ideas through language, drama, play, drawing and writing. Children communicate and connect with each other through beautiful, natural and nurturing ways. Often visiting educators to our school comment on the learning aesthetic and how it stimulates young children. I hope you will join us Friday night at our annual gala, Springtime at Peachtree. In the past ten years of hosting this event, many friendships have been formed as a result of the committee working together for a year in planning the evening. We have grandparents, previous Preschool parents, community friends and current families attend. See you there!

One of our most anticipated events is just around the corner - Springtime at Peachtree on March 25! This year’s event will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the gala which benefits Peachtree’s inclusion program. The committee has worked so hard to secure memorable and unique auction items that are sure going to be crowd pleasers! We are looking forward to this great night for our community to come together and recognize what a special school Peachtree is. If you haven’t already, buy your tickets, invite your friends, and enjoy an unforgettable night! Please also save the date for the annual Peachtree Family Festival on Saturday, April 30, from 10:00am to 1:00pm. This event is so much fun for all of our families and definitely a day you do not want to miss! Since the event is completely parent run, please plan on being there to help. You will receive more information from your room parents, but go ahead and mark your calendars now. As wild as it seems, we are actually already planning for the upcoming year. Are you interested in getting involved in Parents’ Council? We would really love to have you! We are looking for committee chairs and welcome everyone who is interested. Also, if you have any suggestions for next year, we would love to hear new ideas. Please contact me at ekaineg@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you!

Ivy Room, Pre-K, Tree

the educators began to ask questions and think deeply about trees. The children provide answers to these questions which push our learning and exploration further, and lead us in our investigation of finding out more about trees and their connection to us and the world around us.

Earlier in the school year, the children in the Ivy Room began to observe and notice trees outside, around the school building. Children are inherently observant and easily find wonder and awe in what they see. They use knowledge they already have to make sense of and explain their observations while constantly making new connections. When the exploration began, children remarked on the sizes of different trees, what the bark looks like, how their branches grow, and the leaves which beautifully dress them. From these observations,

The educaators also invite the children to use a variety of supports and mark making materials to express their knowledge and findings through visual representation. The work in Ivy Room is a reflection of all the knowledge that has been gained from this experience so far.

APRIL 30, 2022 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. (RAIN OR SHINE) The Peachtree Family Festival is a joyful day of carnival games, delicious food, an artisan market, and more! Enjoy old-fashioned games, pony rides, food trucks, a bake sale, bounce houses, rescue vehicles, petting zoo, music, dance performances and photos with some beloved characters. In addition, we again will have an Artisan Market where local vendors will be showcasing their wares. This is an entirely volunteer-run event and a celebratory crescendo to the Preschool’s school year. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Kristin Heath (kristin.b.heath@gmail.com)

Pre-K and Five/Six Dad’s Visiting Day

We were thrilled to host the seventh annual Afternoon of Stories on February 27. The Preschool was buzzing with excitement as we welcomed children and families on a cold, rainy winter afternoon for time devoted to listening to classic and new tales told in the oral tradition. After months of preparing for the event, teachers transformed classrooms into spaces of imagination: full of magic, whimsy, and joy. Twenty-four staff members honed their skills and joined as storytellers, assistants, and set designers. Over 350 people followed eight pre-designed story paths that led them through the experience. The children and families fully participated in the stories, whether listening

Afternoon of Stories

intently, clapping enthusiastically, or chiming in with a repeated refrain. The commitment to participate in the Afternoon of Stories is illustrative of the dedication of staff and families to be present with children through storytelling and the desire to be a part of the Preschool community. We are grateful to the families of the school who shared this important time with us as eager audience members, story companions, and support to the story telling crew. We encourage you to tell stories to each other at home. Studies reinforce the importance of oral storytelling in the development of an individual’s social and emotional abilities, cognitive growth, as well as their language skills. Socially and emotionally, oral storytelling is much more personal than telling a story using a book. You may enjoy the book “Storytelling with Children” by Nancy Mellon, as a resource.
