Dear Parents, Spring in our beautiful city is a wonderful reminder of the many splendors of nature. It’s a great time for taking children to the park and for enjoying the outdoors.

It was such a pleasure to work with the Springtime at Peachtree committee and see so many families and friends of the Preschool at the event. All the funds generated go to support the Preschool and the inclusion program for children with special needs. We are most grateful to the generosity of the Peachtree community.

The Peachtree Family Festival is coming up. We look forward to seeing you there!

Parents, Spring is here! Woohoo!! What a fun and exciting time at the Preschool as we gear up for a great end of the school year!

A HUGE thank you to all who gave so generously of their time and talents for Springtime at Peachtree! This was a fantastic year for Springtime; the Preschool will benefit greatly from all of the money raised! Thank you especially to our Springtime at Peachtree committee and specifically our chairs - Alison Carlson, Libby Quiner and Jeanine Garvie - who worked tirelessly for this successful event. Our committee of moms and dads as well as our wonderful administrators devoted so much effort to this event, and it really paid off! I hope all who attended had a fabulous time - and came home as a winner of the great auction items!

Now, let’s get ready to concentrate on our day of fun for the kids - Peachtree Family Festival.

Which will take place on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event occurs only with the help of our wonderful parents! Look for communication soon (if you haven’t already received it) from your Room Resource Parents as they organize the volunteers for each class. Sign-up for a volunteer spot, invite your friends and family to attend, and get excited for a great day!

As I’ve mentioned before, we are starting to fill our Parents’ Council spots for next year! Parents’ Council is a great way to get involved - and there are some positions that take very little time commitment! We’d love to have you - so if you have any interest at all, please let me know!!

Join Peachtree Presbyterian Church for Vacation Bible School (VBS) a four-day experience with worship, Bible stories, games, and family fellowship.

classroom spotlight - the hive room The children in the Hive Room are masters of creation! Working with the studio teacher, a group played a “painting game” inspired by the French author/artist Herve Tullet. As the children began to paint dots, circles, and lines, they also began a story about creating an eyeball machine. Their collaborative painting extended into a narrative, which was dependent of each child’s communication of ideas. Experiences such as this promote sharing of ideas and building collaborative skills and lead to a disposition to listen, to learn, and to apply.

Tours of the Preschool give prospective parents an opportunity to visit the school and learn about the Preschool’s philosophy, while seeing students participating in class activities. Tours meet in the Welcome Center at the Family Commons at 9:30 a.m. Please invite any interested friends to attend a tour.

teacher appreciation This month teachers and staff enjoyed a delicious BBQ lunch from Smokebelly! Special thanks to Heather Ansari and Emily Kaineg for her help in putting this lunch together.

professional development On Friday, March 24, the teachers of the Preschool drove to Greenville, SC, for the annual spring Project Infinity Professional Development Day. Approximately 160 educators, from Atlanta and Greenville, came together to share the work of the schools, to think about early childhood education, to participate in atelier sessions, and to polish the craft of teaching.

The art of story has been a focus of the Project for the past few years, and with this in mind, Khadijah Tilgner and Valerie Thompson opened the day by sharing stories told in the oral tradition. Kathy Nichols, Angie Pope, Courtney Sarajian, Grant Troutman, and Jessica Vailes presented work from their classrooms influenced by the recent study tour to Reggio Emilia, Italy. The Preschool supported their Project colleagues by facilitating a painting atelier (Ashley Shepherd, Cindy Neal), a mark-making atelier( Khadijah Tilgner, April Maclane, Cathy Ratigan, and Kristi Reinhardt) and a dance atelier(Cindy Bohntinsky, Candice Purcell, Grant Troutman).

It was a day devoted to growing as teachers, with the aim of elevating our knowledge building processes together. It was a day filled with inspiration and hope!

play - parents corner on mud dough Play: Mud Dough Let’s talk play - open-ended play that will engage your child and offer flexible thinking! Here is a Mud Dough recipe that will be an engaging sensory experience.

Ingredients: -Large bowl -2 cups of clean mud -2 cups sand -½ cup salt -Water Process:

1. In a large bowl, mix together the mud, sand and salt, and enough water to make it pliable.

2. Mix with a wooden spoon, or mix by hand.

3.Turn the dough on a suitable work surface, as a tray or a cardboard and have fun!

Also, you can add all kind of materials to accompany the clay. I first let my daughter explore with the hands, and then I introduce a tray or box with spoons, cups, muffin tins, cars, peg people, natural materials such as rocks, pine cones and acorns. The list is endless.
