Dear Parents, The next time you are in the hallways at Peachtree, take a look at the new research boards. The educators are making learning visible to foster dialogue among children and adults. Each class has a question which guides some of their work this year. Children are the ultimate researchers; as they investigate the meaning of life, they marvel, explore, question and discover the world around them.

We are only a few days away from starting construction of the new Play Yard. As with most building projects, we encountered some logistical issues that had to be resolved. We appreciate the patience of our children, families and educators.

The children are spending much more time on the Outdoor Classroom, and we’ve provided some new activities for that space. Additionally, we’ve been utilizing the gym, Noah’s Park and the Mann Room for sports; the Welcome Center sidewalk for water play; and, the large indoor area known as the Gathering Area for a variety of experiences.

Hello Parents!

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful time of year with your family. With Halloween behind us and anticipation building for Thanksgiving and then Christmas, this is a busy, fun time for children and parents alike!

Parents’ Council has also been busy this Fall with many activities. We hope you all enjoyed the parent parties. Each one was a fun night for parents to get to know one another in a relaxed, kid-free setting! Thank you so much to our party hosts: Whitney and Crosby Mulwee, Lindsey and Ryan Schoultz, Carla and Jeff Geiger, and Carrie and Thomas Clendenin.

Thank you also to Dana Gillis, Trenton Chasteen, and their volunteers for organizing the individual picture sessions for the children. Photographs should be available around Thanksgiving with time for re-orders for Christmas.

Throughout the school year, the Preschool holds prospective parent tours which are led by the Preschool administration and parent volunteers. I encourage you to let your neighbors or friends know about these tours if they are interested in the Preschool, as they are great opportunities to see first-hand what an amazing program we have at Peachtree! Thank you to Whitney Mulwee, Liz Jones, Alexa Ellis and Jeanine Garvie for helping with the October tours.

Five/Six and Pre-K students were screened by Prevent Blindness Georgia during October. Thank you to Alexa Ellis and Lindsey Schoultz for their help with the screenings!

teacher appreciation Lovies loves teachers!! chapel The November chapel speaker will be Caroline Young, Director of High School Ministry at Peachtree Presbyterian Church.

The services will be in the Sanctuary at 9:20 a.m. on Monday, November 14, and Tuesday, November 15.

This month we will be doing a special donation for Buckhead Christian Ministries (BCM.) The are in need of peanut butter and canned meats to stock their shelves before the Thanksgiving Holidays.

The annual Toy Drive will be December 7 and 8. Tell your children to be on the lookout for Elves during the morning and afternoon carpool.

The Outreach Committee would like to thank all of those who contributed to the food drive this past month. Over 100 bags of food were delivered to Buckhead Christian Ministry! Special thanks to the parents who helped collect, load and/or stock the donations.

Five tips for a Healthy Halloween and after 1.

Give children dinner/snack

before you head out trick or treating.

This will help with the temptation of eating candy along the way or eating too much candy when they return.

erasers or stickers instead of candy.

professional development Educator Exchange Day

Because of the interest in schools using the Reggio approach, Project Infinity schools developed a way to interact with educators from the community. On October 13, Peachtree welcomed over 30 visitors for an afternoon that included environment tours and staff presentations. Ali Malone, Cindy Bohntinsky and Grant Troutman presented work from The Mosaic Room and The Tapestry Room. Our guests visited eleven classrooms, studio spaces and the outdoor classroom for open conversations with Peachtree educators.

Project Infinity Whole Project Day

On Friday, October 7, the Peachtree staff hosted educators from the Project Infinity Schools for a day of professional development. This was the first gathering of the new school year, and the educators had a full program of presentations, discussions, sharing of work and reflecting on the first thirty days of the school year.

The other schools in Project Infinity are Grant Park Cooperative Preschool, First Baptist Infant Toddler Program Greenville, First Baptist Kindergarten Greenville, Saint Anne’s Day School and The Nest Nursery School.

The day opened with Margie Cooper, founder of Project Infinity, welcoming all of us to the start of another great school year centered around fostering a sense of belonging.

The 60 plus participants of the 2016 Reggio Emilia Study Tour gave informational “computer campfire” presentations to all of the educators in the Project. We were able to “experience” their time in Reggio through photos and reflections.

Additionally, the educators spent the afternoon in mini-atelier sessions and small group discussions. The ateliers were centered on the Art of Music and Movement, Extracting Natural Pigments, Print Making with Natural Materials and Painting: inspired by Herve Tulle. Over 170 educators in Project Infinity came together for a full day of professional development and learning, helping to build community as educators that contribute to the mission of each school.

EFFORTS TO BUILD A SENSE OF BELONGING

2017-2018 Priority Registration Begins Registration for the 2017-2018 school year will begin on November 1 for both current students and those who will be new to the program. Applications and the accompanying registration fee of $120 per child may be submitted online at www.peachtreepresbyterianpreschool.org/admission.

The Preschool is offering an extended Pre-K class for 2017-2018.

This class will follow the same schedule as the Five/Six program.

Dismissal on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be at 1:15 p.m. On Thursday and Friday, dismissal will be at 12:15 p.m.

Returning students and their siblings are guaranteed placement for the new school year if applications are received by noon on January 13, 2017. For new families, admission priorities are as follows: *active members of Peachtree Presbyterian Church *families from the community For those applying by January 13, 2017, enrollment status will be conveyed via email and via by letter on February 1, 2017. After January 13, 2017, admission will continue on a space available basis.

Prospective Parent Tours - Tell a Friend Tours of the Preschool give prospective parents an opportunity to visit the school and learn about the Preschool’s philosophy, while seeing students participating in class activities.

Tours meet in the Welcome Center of the Family Commons at 9:30 a.m.

“mix it up” in the river room

The River Room read an awesome book called “Mix It Up!” by Herve Tullet. The children said that they would like to “mix it up”, so we had paint and materials waiting for them when they arrived the following day. They all made new colors and gave them names. We will be making a book about their colors. At first, some children were hesitant to put their hands into the paint, but by the end of the day, all joined in the fun.
