Dear Parents, After our first Afternoon of Stories, I pondered how often we take time to tell stories with our families. Nowadays with the distraction of digital devices, we rarely take the time to sit and tell stories! Research shows that children tend to have higher self esteem, lower levels of anxiety and fewer behavioral problems when parents share family stories. Storytelling can be as simple as reading a story from a book, sharing a story from memory, or talking about your own childhood. Children love listening to stories. By telling children stories, you can talk about virtues such as courage, honesty, gratitude, compassion, determination and faith. Children can enhance their verbal proficiency by learning new words and phrases. This will help them with learning to read.
