Thank you for your support
Some people make choices that change lives. Thank you for being one of them by supporting Women’s and Children’s Services at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center.
Your generosity has enabled us to purchase new equipment to improve breast cancer care for women in our community, update the furnishings at A Child’s Place to provide a safe and welcoming space for children experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties, and provide funding for our PeaceHealth St. John Pediatrics program.
Please know that your thoughtful acts of giving will make a difference in the lives of many women and children in our community. A heartfelt thank you for making all of this possible.
With deepest gratitude,
Amy Leggio, Executive Director PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center FoundationOur new SCOUT system improves breast cancer care
Installed in February of 2023, our new donor-funded SCOUT Radar Localization System is vastly improving breast biopsy and surgical procedures for St. John patients.
The SCOUT Reflector is a small bead inserted at the time of biopsy to help surgeons later locate concerning breast tissue, pinpointing its location to within 1mm. The SCOUT system replaced our old wire localization system, which used an exposed wire that was painful and difficult for patients to maintain, since it often needed to be inserted several hours before surgery.
Women who have had previous wire localizations love the ease of the SCOUT procedure and the fact that they do not need to return for a localization appointment just prior to surgery.

SCOUT Reflectors reduce the risk of infection and more accurately pinpoint affected breast tissue, leading to improved surgical outcomes. They are cost-effective, appropriate for most patients, and are documented to reduce re-excision and positive margin rates, reduce false negatives, and also shorten procedure time in comparison to traditional wire localization. SCOUT Reflectors will not interfere with any medical imaging that may be required during the continuum of care.
We are so grateful to you, our generous donors, for making it possible to enhance patient comfort and convenience while improving healthcare outcomes for women in our community. Thank you!

Top-Rated Maternity Care at PeaceHealth

John
About 800 babies are born each year at PeaceHealth St. John. Our Birthing Center offers 12 spacious, private suites, two large cesarean-section delivery rooms, two post-partum/recovery rooms, an enlarged family waiting area, and a special care nursery.
The Birthing Center is designed so that new moms and their loved ones are able to experience the labor, delivery, and recovery process all in the same room, with their chosen support person(s) in attendance.

Clinically, PeaceHealth St. John scored among the top maternity hospitals in the nation by The Leapfrog Group, an organization that measures and publicly reports hospital performance. Attributing to the high score are lower than average cesarean-section, episiotomy and early elective delivery rates.
A Child’s Place Facility Update
The last few years have been tough on our kids, with a reported 30% increase in anxiety and depression among U.S. children and teens. A Child’s Place is a Longview program created to offer kids guidance, support and treatment for emotional and behavioral problems.
A Child’s Place serves families in Southwest Washington and Oregon who need professional assistance with psychological testing, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management. The facility was founded through the efforts of the PeaceHealth St. John Board of Directors, with the support of generous donors like you.
A Child’s Place generally accepts referrals for any child meeting eligibility criteria, with most referrals coming from primary care physicians, school counselors and teachers, crisis services, social workers, and parents. The program aims to provide local, flexible and responsive assessments that result in effective treatment, strengthening families with support and resources.
Recently your gifts helped us to update the facility with new wipeable seating, new waiting room furniture, bookcases, lamps, task chairs, a kids table and chairs, torch lights and other furnishing to make the area safe, comfortable and welcoming for patients and families.
