Well the weather seems to be improving, in fact we may even get some warm bank holiday but time will tell. We started this magazine in the middle of a recession and found Peacehaven & Telscombe Cliffs people to be very resourceful and entrepreneurial. South Downs National Park Development... destroying our towns

SDNP has a different agenda, it is focused on gradual development. The South Downs Local Plan dictates what can be built in its area between 2014 and 2033.

In 2011 the South Downs National Park (SDNP) was launched. To control development responsibility for planning permission passed from the local councils to SDNP.

The target for LDC is 4,150 dwellings between 2010 and 2030 with SDNP only contributing 912. Something has to give or tower blocks will be the only way to squeeze in the extra people.....Meanwhile in Midhurst SDNP sip their herbal tea and congratulate themselves on how they have protected the South of England from overcrowding.

Locally, Telscombe Cliffs, Peacehaven, Newhaven and Seaford are outside the National Park (NP). While Telscombe Tye, Telscombe Village, Piddinghoe and Lewes are in the SDNP. This all may seem academic but Lewes District Council has a legal obligation to ensure there are sufficient new homes built in their area. LDC only has the coastal strip under its planning control. Plans for Newhaven keep stalling.

So in the short term Peacehaven is taking the brunt. The local infrastructure is reaching breaking point. So LDC still allows another 450 homes to be built over a couple of years. So how many homes will SDNP contribute...

Champions…under 14s win their league in style PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE under 14s were crowned Sussex Sunday Youth Division 2 champions in dramatic fashion.

In a winner takes all game against local rivals and second placed Rottingdean, the under 14 team triumphed 3-0 to lift the title.

The team, managed by Clive Blunt, won 12 of their 14 games, drew once and only lost once all season - a brilliant achievement at any level.

In their ranks, and a player to look out for in the future is top scorer Josh Munro. Josh notched 31 goals this season.

The full 2018/19 squad is: Ryan Blunt, Thomas Brown, Roman Chiosa, Finley Clark, Oliver Cooper, Joe Durrant, Alex Flore, Will Guinan, Harvey Kempster, Lorenzo Knopp, Joshua Munro, Jake Saunders, George Wilshire and Kacper Ziolkowski.

Peacehaven & Telscombe play their final game of the season on Bank Holiday Monday May 6 when they face Haywards Heath in the final of the RUR Cup at Lancing FC. Kick-off 3pm.

Clive Blunt said: “The boys have been brilliant all season with a never-say-die attitude and have matured as players – the future looks bright for Shutty” (Mark Shutt, first manager).

Blunt continued: “I’m sure some of these lads will one day be playing for the under 18s, 23s and the first team and will take inspiration from local boy Reilly Grant, Peacehaven’s first team captain, who has just reached the 100 game milestone.”

And then Clive Blunt paid an emotional tribute to Bill Clark: “I would like to dedicate this championship win to Bill Clark who was Finley Clark’s grandad who sadly passed away early this year; he never missed a game and would have been so proud of his grandson and the rest of the boys.”

Martlets Hove Park Carnival Acts Announced Martlets is delighted to announce a fantastic line up of performers for its 2019 Hove Park Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday 27�� May. Visitors to the event will be entertained with family friendly acts including acrobatics, display dogs, dancers, theatre workshops as well as a huge range of stalls, amusements and rides.

The Black Eagles Acrobatic Show, a troupe of stunning acrobats from Tanzania, will perform their powerful and graceful acrobatic and dance routines three times at 11:45 am, 1:30 pm and 3:45 pm. The ever popular K9 display team will be showing the skills of their highly trained dogs that are used in the security services sector. With clients including members of the Saudi Royal Family and Radio 1 their displays are not to be missed at 12:10 pm and 2:25 pm.

Two different belly dance troupes will be also be entertaining carnival goers with the Ter’zim Belly Dance Troupe performing at 1:00 pm and Brighton & Worthing Belly Dance performing at 3:15 pm. At 1:55 pm and 4:10 pm, members of The Theatre Workshop will take centre with talented stage school students aged 4-21 who will be singing, dancing and performing for the crowds.

Charlotte Bolton from the Hospice’s Fundraising Team said: “We are looking forward to another fantastic Hove Carnival for young and old this year with another set of crowd-pleasing performances. There is such a huge variety of activities available for all the family to enjoy, we hope that people will put the dates in their diaries and support the event helping us to raise funds to provide care for local people living with terminal illness and their families.”

Inter-generational Easter Lunch CTLA Community Transport was delighted to host an inter-generational Easter lunch at the Hillcrest Community Centre, Newhaven, last week.

The 3rd Peacehaven Brownies painted Easter vases and decorated eggs for the table displays and, along with the adult volunteers, helped to serve refreshments and play bingo with the 37 older lunch attendees.

The Brownies are working towards earning their 'Charity' badge through community action and by supporting the last remaining accessible transport charity covering the District, they were able to further develop key skills for life.

CTLA runs isolation-busting social trips and events and membership is free.

News from the Ascension Church - A personal note from Rev Tim Mills...

"Ascension church meets once a year in April, to reflect on all that has been achieved in the previous year. Supremely it is about us expressing our faith through love. Love that reaches out to young and old in our community. The mums and toddlers group (called Tikes and Trikes) has flourished with extra help provided through our links with 3 charities, Family support Work, The House Project and ABCFund.

We have continued to serve the community through baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals, providing a very personal and loving help at these times. Our visiting takes us to local care homes and to various older folks. We also pioneered a course at Coffee Haven called Alpha which explores the Christian faith in an informal way. Prayer and healing are central to the church with special services for those who want to get prayer for healing. See all the details on our wonderful new website, where you can now also listen to the weekly sermons, especially helpful if you cannot get to the service. Also we have been so encouraged by the significant increase in numbers attending our regular services and other activities and special events.

All this has been blessed by our new Associate Vicar Mark Hake whose main focus is the young families in our community He will be even more busy over the coming months as I will be taking a sabbatical from May to July after 16 years of service in the church of England . Every blessing - Tim" Other news: The Easter services this year were a great time of reflection and celebration. The Easter egg hunt on the Saturday saw a large amount of chocolate discovered (and eaten) very quickly!

The growing number of children each week is great, and they love their special activities in the hall on Sunday mornings during the 9:30 service at Kidz Club and the crèche.

Straight after Easter we also had a Songs of Praise Service on April 28��, a lovely chance to share some favourite hymns together. We try to be the church for every generation. As spring turns to summer, why not use the lovely weather to come and visit us.
