There has been lots of amazing things happening in Peacehaven and Telscombe and lots more to come. We have endeavoured to cover as much as we can, so please read on. Our front cover picture, kindly provided by Lynette Lawlor is of our local resident Sarah Baverstock as she raced around the Brighton Marathon on the 15th April along with her running partners.

She told us that her finishing time was 6 hours 28 minutes. Sarah was just shy of £1,000 for her chosen charity so if you want to donate please call her, she is still collecting.

In April there was a sad event that has touched many in our community.

We would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Connor Saunders.

Does your PC make you feel you are working in a laundrette?…

When I visit customers to repair their computers; one of S the most common complaints is the noise it makes.

Nowadays you do not have to grin and bear it. The answer is to swap out the noisy components for quieter ones.

Fans are the main culprit. Fans can be found all over the inside of the case: on the processor, in the power supply, on the graphics card, sucking cold air into the case and pushing hot air out of the case. In a commercial machine they usually use the cheapest part that does the job.

Small, cheap fans rotate at high speed to move the required amount of air. The same volume of air can be moved by using a larger fan, which rotates at a lower speed, generating less noise. There are different solutions for each of the components.

Processor fans vary hugely but quieter replacements start at under £10, most use a bigger heatsink and a bigger fan.

The power supply can be upgraded with a new model which is more energy efficient, graphics cards can be changed to one without fans and case fans for low-noise versions.

On a new build one can use so-called “silent” cases, these are available with sound deadening, built in quiet fans and a more heat efficient layout, so less cooling is needed. The premium over a standard build is as little as £30, a bigger spend can lead to a virtually silent PC. It does not have to sound like you are working in a laundrette!

Spotlight on Central Beauty…

A great treat for me this month. A beautiful sunny but crisp day and I headed down to Central Beauty Therapy to sample the delights of a massage and facial from Carole who has recently opened the treatment room in the Meridian Osteopathic Clinic in Central Avenue.

Carole qualified in Beauty Therapy as a mature student and has never looked back. She has worked in the industry for a while and even held a teaching post at a major college. Local Person Lynda Alsford What is your name and where do you live?

My name is Lynda Alsford and I live in Telscombe Cliffs.

What do you like best about the part of Peacehaven you live in?

I love the view from the cliffs looking over the English Channel.

Its gorgeous and so relaxing to look at. I love taking photos of this view especially at sunset. I also love the convenience of having the Goodfayre corner shop/post office so near to me, as well as the pharmacy and doctor’s surgery.

3) What projects are you currently working on?

I’m involved with Coastlands church, which meets at Peacehaven Community School on Sundays at 10.30am. We have just started having ‘Messy Church’ on the last Sunday of every month at 11am at the school. It involves crafts, activities, and puppets with a Christian theme as well as a free lunch. Its for all the family not just children. We love having visitors and new people coming along. The more the merrier!

Do you have any hobbies you would like to tell us about?

I like to do various creative crafts and I have just started to try my hand at painting. I’m not very good yet. I’d love to meet up with others in the area interested in arts and crafts.

What is your involvement in the Community?

As well as Coastlands church I am also the local organiser for the Peacehaven branch of the National Women’s Register. We are a group of women who meet in each other’s homes every two weeks for discussions around various topics. These are sometimes serious, sometimes light hearted, with occasional outings as well. Recent meetings have included a film evening, discussing what major events happened in the year of our birth, learning more about holistic therapies and looking at recent news items. We’d love to have new members.

What do you want to see improved in the area?

I think more things for children, young people and families would be good. It’s one of the reasons why our church has started Messy Church.

Any claim to fame.

I’ve just self published my first book called ‘He Never Let Go: The true story of a prodigal evangelist’. Before moving to Peacehaven I was working as an evangelist at a lively church in London, however I lost my faith in God completely and found myself preaching a gospel I no longer believed. The books tells the story of what happened to me, why I lost my faith and how I became an evangelist who evangelised herself, and so returned to faith. Why did you get solar installed?

Because I was concerned about current and future rising energy costs together with the sound financial returns from the installation. The return from the index linked feed-in tariff, export tariff and savings on electricity bills outstrips the current interest rates from savings held in banks and building societies.

How is it working?

It’s very interesting. The control panels show the amount of electricity being generated at any given time and it’s very interesting to see that even on a dull day the installation is still generating a certain amount of electricity.

I can also see how much revenue the installation Is generating.

How did the installation go?

It was amazingly straight forward. There was the minimum of disruption Inside the house and the installers were very efficient and left the property clean and tidy.

Peacehaven Youth FC - Now Recruiting Hi, My name is Jonathan and I play for Peacehaven Youth FC, under 13's. I have been playing football since I was 4 and it’s a great way to keep fit and meet new friends.

I have been playing for Peacehaven for the last 4 seasons and it is a great club to play for. We play matches most Sunday’s and in the summer we play tournaments which are really good fun. When we play home matches there are always lots of other matches going on so we can watch and support all the other teams, it is a really friendly club to play for.

I play in a team with lots of my friends from school and we also have other boys from different schools playing for us, so its a great way to make new friends.

I would recommend playing for Peacehaven Youth to anyone if you enjoy football, want to keep fit and make lots of new friends – Peacehaven Youth FC is the club to join.

If you are interested in playing for Peacehaven Youth FC, we will be looking to recruit new players to all age groups Under 8’s – Under 18’s for the 2012/13 season.

Our signing on night is the 25�� July at Peacehaven Football Club, Piddinghoe Avenue, Peacehaven from 7.00pm – 8.00pm.

Dog of the Month…

Meet Shadow. He has been part of the Briffett family properly for about 5 years. He is owned by my Dad, John and has been a great friend to him especially after he lost his wife a few years ago.

He moved in when my Dad came to live with us in Peacehaven. He is a Collie cross and although not always welcoming to visitors to our home he is completely trustworthy with all the family and I would trust him with my children’s lives. When my daughter was a toddler she was very quick and liked to run into the road, Shadow would herd her back onto the pavement safely and position himself so she could not attempt the great escape again. Once she became surrounded by a pack of dogs at the park who circled her and were barking. I didn’t need to worry because Shadow was there in the centre with her warning the other dogs to back off. He also protected my dad once when he was attacked by a very fierce dog. The dog sprang at my dad but Shadow met him mid air and chased him off.

Sadly Shadow is advancing in years and has a few serious medical concerns. He finds It hard to go for a walk now but every once in a while he gets a new lease

The Safest Place to be in Telscombe Cliffs ~ New PAD Site Telscombe Civic Centre took proud possession of the first Public Automated Defibrillator (PAD) in the area.

The life saving equipment will be in a case outside the main entrance to the Telscombe Civic Centre, 360 South Coast Road, Telscombe Cliffs.

these 999 calls being for patients with chest pain and cardiac emergencies. This Public Automated Defibrillator (PAD) will support our community and help our local Ambulance Responder Team volunteers, before the Ambulance Service arrives on site.

This PAD site will provide the equipment that any member of the public can use to help someone suffering a heart attack or who has collapsed and is not breathing.

The defibrillator is easy to use and self explanatory; it has voice prompts to tell the user exactly what to do in this life threatening situation ~ just follow the commands.

It is worth noting that both of our Mayors passed their assessment at the end of the evening with flying colours, as did all the participants!

Local and County Councillors as well as Civic Centre Staff undertook a training session with South East Coast Ambulance Service Associate Trainers Philip and Joy Ashton to learn how to use the Defibrillator and carry out Basic Life Support.

Good News for Local Charity - ABCfund Holidays for Local Deserving Families We are delighted to announce that we have been given the use of a state of the art top of the range caravan thanks to our generous benefactor Share A Little Love.

We are intending to use this mainly for deserving families who get no chance of a holiday. We are operating a first come first served basis to suitable families who will look after and respect the mobile home.

Any spare unreserved weeks can be taken up by families known to us and the charity will receive the benefits.

We are therefore inviting you to apply.

Anne Bickmore Chairman More Great Fundraising News On the 18th April The Young Mayor of Peacehaven hosted a fashion show for the charity which was sponsored by Southern Water.

It was a fun night with 6 beautiful local ladies taking to the Cat walk to show off a selection of spring outfits from Travelling Trends.

A good time was had by all and we are pleased to announce that £600 profit was raised. This amount was due to the generosity of local businesses which meant that the charity had no overheads and that every penny raised went to the Young Mayor’s fund of which we are the beneficiary.

So a big thank you to everyone who had a part in this show.

Marathon News Our Brighton Marathon runners this year raised £2,500.

We have been chosen as an official charity partner to the Brighton Marathon 2013. We do have places to offer any runners who might like to run for us.

We are also looking for volunteers to help leading up to the event, so if you can spare some time please contact us.
