Fish Island Village - August 2025

Welcome to your August Fish Island Village Newsletter

Bike thefts at Fish Island

We’re aware that there has been an increase recently in the number of bicycles and motorcycles that have been stolen from Therm Court Bike Store and the car park at Fish Island Village.

We’re also aware of the repeated damage caused to the car park gate. We are taking these thefts very seriously and are exploring ways to deter this behaviour in both the short and long term. At the moment, the team are looking into the possibility of placing security officers at the car park entrance and the longer term solution of replacing the gate.

In the meantime, please keep reporting these instances to the Police using metengage.co.uk. Every report helps the police build a clearer picture of what’s happening locally and supports better resource allocation to keep our community safe.

The role of the concierge team in helping maintain safety at FIV remains unchanged. If you notice an issue during their working hours, 6am to 11pm on weekdays, or 8am to 8pm on weekends, please contact them on 07586 022 428.

New faces at the concierge

As many residents will have noticed already, we recently welcomed two new members of staff from Kingdom to the concierge team. Thank you so everyone who has given the team a warm welcome as they find their feet at Fish Island Village.

We’d also like to let you know that the tender process for the concierge service at FIV opened at the end of July. This means that we are currently accepting applications from concierge service providers, including our current provider Kingdom, to get the best team in place at the concierge.

Storing items and fly-tipping

With the summer holidays well underway we know many residents are tidying up or receiving more deliveries.

It’s easy to run out of space, but please don’t store items in communal areas like bikes sheds or car parks. These spaces need to stay clear for everyone’s safety. These spaces also aren’t secure, so your belongings may be at risk.

Items left in communal areas might also be considered fly-tipping. While flytipping is usually thought of as large items like fridges or mattresses, even leaving a single black bin bag where it shouldn’t be could be fly-tipping.

If you spot fly-tipping, you can report it at: towerhamlets.gov.uk.

Thanks for helping keep our neighbourhood safe and tidy for everyone. You can find out more tips here.

Reaching the right people

Residents shared at the FIVRA annual general meeting on Thursday 10 July that they would like to know who to get in touch with for specific issues. To help you reach the right people, we’ve put together a useful list of contacts.

General concerns and complaints

Please follow the official process by contacting the contact centre on0300 123 3456, where your case will be assigned to the appropriate person for follow-up. When you call the contact centre, please ask for a case to be raised, ask for your case number and make a note of this. Having your case number to hand if you need to follow up helps us get the right information quickly to help you.

Just to let you know, we are currently looking into our access systems for some of the rooftop terraces at FIV.

We are exploring this option in response to a number of instances of anti-social behaviour on the terraces of some blocks which residents have brought to our attention. We will be in touch with more details about this change in the autumn.

Residents can visit peabody.org.uk/your-home/personal-safety/antisocial-behaviour/ to find out more information and report ASB. If you are in immediate danger and your life is threatened, a crime is in progress or people are injured you should dial 999.

Heating and hot waterHeat Interface Unit (HIU)

As part of our ongoing work to investigate the issues affecting the performance and reliability of your heating and hot water system, we will shortly be carrying out priority servicing of Heat Interface Units (HIUs) in a selected group of units.

In our 18 July update, we explained that we were planning investigations within individual flats to help us fully understand the underlying issues and develop a long-term solution. These inflat investigations are now commencing as part of this servicing programme.

We expect to be in a position to share a proposed timeline for the longer-term works once this initial phase is complete and the results have been reviewed. We will keep all residents informed as the programme progresses.

We’re listening

Soft landscaping - plants and trees

In the 18 July update we said we would be in touch as soon as we had a date for the postponed third meeting with Outerspace to present plans for residents.

We're still working on confirming a date with them, but aren’t quite there yet. As soon as we have this date, we’ll make sure to let you know.

Earlier this year, many of you joined us at the Brady Arts Centre in Tower Hamlets to share your views and recommendations. Your feedback was honest, thoughtful, and incredibly valuable—and we’ve been listening.

We’re pleased to share how your voice is shaping improvements across our services. You told us repairs needed more attention, so we’re introducing local drop-in surgeries in areas with ongoing issues. You asked for clearer communication, and we’re making service charge invoices easier to understand, with specialists on hand to support you.

We’re also working to make our community safety teams more visible, improve how we use communal spaces, and share more information about activities and funding available at our community centres.

Read about how your voice is shaping the way we work, and how you can get involved in the North East London Peabody Resident Forum, at peabody.org.uk/news/generalnews/you-said-were-doing/

MVHR update - Making your home more comfortable

MHVR replacement programme update

Since the programme began on 14 April 185 Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) units have been successfully replaced.

The majority of Phase 2 of the replacement programme have now been booked in. We understand that during this holiday period, we may not be able to get hold of everyone, for those that are away and we have not been able to contact, they will be contacted as soon as Phase 3 begins.

Ecolution have been working on conducting the final surveys for commencement of Phase 3 of the replacement programme. Due to the holiday period, they will continue to try and contact residents to get these booked in, we hope to have all surveys completed by 12 September.

Our team is currently contacting residents in all blocks to arrange appointments. We’re also reaching out to residents in earlier blocks who haven’t yet been able to book a slot, to help get those appointments scheduled.

If you have any questions or need to reschedule your appointment, please contact our New Homes Customer Care (NHCC) team at nhcc@peabody.org.uk.
