Island Village - October 2025

Little Book Stop Launch

On Saturday 13 September many residents gathered at Hertford Union Canal Lock for the launch of the Fish Island Village Penguin Little Book Stop. Cinzia, a resident at FIV applied many months ago to have the Little Book Stop installed and it was wonderful to see the community come out to celebrate.

The result is a beautifully designed booksharing box filled with a mix of children’s and adult literature; which runs on a take a book, leave a book basis.

Cinzia opened the event by sharing the story behind the Book Stop, followed by Peabody’s Neighbourhood Manager, Selorm. Babyccinos were served by a resident with support from local restaurant Inis, who provided tables and chairs Storytime was led by another neighbour, who read ‘The Book With No Pictures’ to children by the canal

However, you may have noticed that the Little Book Stop has been temporarily removed This is due to a small issue with the fixing of the front glass panel, so Penguin have picked up the Little Book Stop and returned it to their workshop for a quick repair. It’s expected to be returned in a few weeks time.

Security Update

On Wednesday 8 October, a focus group of residents met with your Neighbourhood Manager and members of the MET Police Bow East division team to discuss safety at Fish Island Village.

Topics included crime prevention, parcel theft, and ideas to improve safety around the neighbourhood The Met Police praised and encouraged residents to keep reporting incidents via 999 and METENGAGE This really helps to inform local policing decisions, including allocating resources

Following feedback from residents and FIVRA, discussions are underway to set up a local ward panel. This would give residents a regular space to raise concerns directly with Peabody, the police, and the local authority. If you would be interested in this, please get in touch with your Neighbourhood Manager or Resident Association.

Security Update

We’re also pleased to share that car park security has been improved. The gates have been repaired and fitted with tamper-proof mesh. Automatic lights, which activate when movement is detected, have also been put in.

Halloween Parade

Saturday 1 November 2025, from 3pm Meet at Lanturna Square

Join your neighbours for a stroll through Fish Island Village to admire all the decorated doorways, picking up some treats (and tricks!) along the way.

Handmade trophies will be awarded for the best costume and pumpkin carving.

Development Team Update

Heating and hot water

You’ll have recently seen posters going up around the blocks, alongside a letter sent to all residents, letting you know about upcoming work to the Heat Interface Units (HIU) across Fish Island Village

For more detailed information about the heating and hot water remediation works, you can read a digital copy of the letter recently sent to residents at peabody.org.uk/fish-islandvillage

Firstly, we would like to reassure all residents that we won’t change the temporary boiler setup, which is supplying heating to the estate, until the fix is complete and working.

Why is this work happening?

Following investigations by Max Fordham, a specialist engineering consultancy, it’s been recommended that work is carried out on the HIUs in every home. These units are key to the heating and hot water system across the estate, and a phased approach will be taken to ensure everything runs smoothly.

When is this work taking place?

As part of a pilot, 10 homes were recently visited to test and recalibrate their HIUs, ensuring the proposed fix works before it’s rolled out across Fish Island Village

All residents will receive a letter with an appointment slot for our contractors, T Brown Group, to visit your home. These appointments will be taking place from Monday 13 October and will continue through the autumn and winter months.

What if I need to rearrange my appointment?

If you need to rearrange your appointment, please get in touch by emailing peabodycustomerservice@tbrown.com or calling 07977 761748.

You can also visit the concierge and speak to Hannah or Rebekah, T Brown’s Resident Liaison Officers.

What is a Heat Interface Unit (HIU)?

Although the HIU is located inside your flat and looks similar to a normal boiler, it is part of the overall network that provides heating and hot water to everyone at Fish Island Village.

This means that it is Peabody’s responsibility to maintain and service it, which is why we will need access to every home.

To carry out these works smoothly and help keep your and all your neighbours’ homes comfortable, we really appreciate your cooperation in allowing access.

Plants, paving and bollards

New bollards are currently being procured for the Wansbeck Courtyard entrance These will match the existing bollards already in place throughout Fish Island Village, ensuring a consistent and cohesive look across the development.

In addition, civil engineers will be on site next week to assess the pavement remediation requirements. A detailed plan of works will be shared with residents shortly following their review.

The landscaping designs have now been finalised, and the tendering process is underway.

We will provide a detailed update on the upcoming works in the next newsletter updates, keeping residents informed of timelines and any potential impacts.
