Four Buildings April 6, 2015
(Four Buildings that nurtured me as a child: Jennings Public Library, Immaculate Conception Church, Strand Theater, and Jennings Band Room.) Crew cut and freckles. T-shirt and jeans. I saw myself walking, in a hometown dream. Some places looked new. Others seemed old. I searched for the buildings, that nurtured my soul. Crew cut and glasses. Barefoot and jeans. I saw myself searching, in a hometown dream. One place, gave me books, that opened my mind. Another, gave faith. Taught me to be kind. Crew cut and tan. Cuffs on my jeans. I saw myself smiling, in a hometown dream. A building, with screen and actors and shows. A room, filled with music. A trumpet to blow. My trumpet and books. The church bell still rings. There’s drama and joy, in my hometown dream. My body’s grown lean. My nights are now long. I’ve been truly blessed. Been a beautiful song. Crew cut and freckles. My walk nears the end. My last breath is spent, in a hometown dream.
