Field Guide of a Childhood

Ink, alcohol markers, colored pencils, and found objects on toned paper.

A field guide is a book designed to help the reader identify wildlife (plants or animals) or other objects of natural occurrence (e.g. minerals). It is generally designed to be brought into the 'field' or local area where such objects exist to help distinguish between similar objects.

My son’s childhood represented in vintage paper dolls as well as a mini family tree.

My inquiry was focused on the idea behind the loss and gain of material items. In my six word description I described this as: A fire, nothing, to over abundance.

Digital Drawing- Started to think about people who don’t have a lot of possessions. Then I started thinking loss.

So I wanted to add marigold flowers has a way to reflect and remember as they are used in day of the dead

From losing everything, now we are moving and we so much that its overwhelming

Items out on the road for bulk trash got me thinking of now we have so much we don’t have room and just throwing things away

I started to think about the breakdown of the home as you pull the walls back and see all the stuff inside. What is collected, what is left, an abandoned home with a few objects left inside. I wanted to keeps some of the walls transparent so you can still see inside the structure but know the barriers.
