“Streets where dreams are made” Cold snow dragging feet to school Sludge puddles slimy hands safe warm Trains go fast lights are blinding Run hop on doors close fast Pulling on jackets, arms clasped in pockets Lost among people stay close vigilant Trains no more atlanta apartments cars trees highways she learns to drive assimilate appropriate Hold my fingers, clasp my hands Arms, lap, shoulders, guide, comrade, us A piece living outside of me How do we wander with flesh Separated from us building our lives It’s blinding Take the time, walls with cracks Teaching them to become empowered to Build themselves up, build that empire Find the doors

< Seeing this piece at MoMA made me question, “what if one drawer were missing?”

Tessa Proof of… learning something new

Visiting MoMa was amazing and I didn’t want to leave!

>This did not turn out to be my favorite piece, but I really liked my process and it led to further investigation and the inquiry that pushed me to think about my family and sisters and further interest in childhood PTSD and its effects on youth.

< I really loved working on this piece. Doing the research, putting the idea together and thinking about the design plus the extra personal meanings behind the work made me enjoy making this piece even more. Ironically, the missing girl looks so much like my little sister which gave it even more personal meaning.

^ I absolutely fell in love with these textures and use of materials!

< This piece I made for Melissa was a great combination of my preferred style but with her content. This project allowed me to think less about the work and just enjoy the process.

I visited (not really) remote and abandoned cemetery locations (Revolutionary and Civil Wars) nearby to discover what was once a treasure that society now thinks is “trash”, a grave stone.

Took rubbings and photographs.

Because these places are abandoned, does that mean this person’s life was “trash”? Am I looking at the human refuse of America?

You said you showed that shoulder because of a traumatic injury there. Seemed fitting they should rest on your injury.

Throughout the investigation, you should never forget that you’re not just a mother.

Textures Rashes Hives Splotches Comfortable Uncomfortable Raised Heat Warmth Home

Beginning idea: developed allergies, adapting to new surroundings, leaving behindbeing uncomfortable in prior familiar circumstances.

Final Idea: a silk necklace inspired by the shapes of hives-- making something uncomfortable, comfortable, as well as something that caused anxiety, into something celebrated.
