It's time for your Influenza, Pneumonia, Shingles, Pertussis shots, COVID boosters and more!
As many of you may know from reading the eBlast or attending our August Board meeting, Warren Geller, Past President of our Board of Directors resigned from the Board last month.
I have worked closely with Warren while serving on the Finance Committee in 2016, and later in 2018, as a member the Board and the Ad Hoc Committee for Expansion and Enclosure of the Community Center. We worked tirelessly for two years overseeing the design, engineering, construction, and furnishing of the Community Center from 2018-2020. During that time, we also experienced the COVID, and the Board and community were fortunate to have his leadership and guidance during this unprecedented pandemic. Thank you, Warren, for all you have done for this community.
Moving forward, the Board has two options ~ either to fill his position as Director or leave his position vacant until the next election. The Board will inform the community as soon as they have made a decision on how to proceed.
Your Board has been working on developing a strategic plan for operational improvement. We recently held a workshop to list and collate our goals and objectives. We are now in the process of ranking them and we look forward to getting your feedback.
That's why I hope you can attend the COFFEE WITH THE BOARD on Thursday, October 24 at 10 a.m. in the Vista Room. We are excited to share our ideas with you and look forward to getting your comments and suggestions as we build a plan for the future.
On October 28 and 29, Board members will sit down together for a two-day workshop to develop and ADOPT a VISION, MISSION, GUIDING PRINCIPLES, ACTION LIST and STRATEGIC PLAN. We hope to bring this plan to the Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, November 13 at 10 a.m.
In addition, we have some important upcoming events that I hope you will put in your schedule. On September 18, Smith's pharmacists are hosting an Informational Seminar on Immunizations at 10 a.m. in the Vista Room and they will offer a Shot Clinic from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m in the Activity Room.
The following week, on September 26 from 9 a.m. to noon, the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Brain Center, in partnership with other health information providers, is hosting Free Memory Screenings for residents in the Vista Room. A memory assessment is an important way to measure cognitive competencies, and learn if you qualify for an Alzheimer's disease research study
Because the Election is just around the corner, we have scheduled a Candidate Meet 'n' Greet on October 21 from 6 -8 p.m. in the Vista Room, where you will have the chance to meet local, state and federal candidates before you cast your Election Ballot. The next day, October 22, in coordination with Clark County Election Department, we will hold Early Voting in the Social Hall from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, you can vote on Election Day, November 5, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Social Hall of the Community Center
Please join us for all of these amazing events.
Best Regards,
Ed Sloman President, Sun City Aliante Board of Directors

As many of you are aware, our community has been touted as the best Homeowners' Association in Southern Nevada for the past five out of six years the Community Associations Institute (CAI). We received this award because of the many dedicated residents who volunteer on our Committees and Board of Directors to keep the HOA wheels turning succinctly Also, we have an awesome General Manager and Staff who work in concert with the Board to continuously improve t h e c
Participating in the CAI Institute's training and activities also contributed to our success and recognition.
As a reminder, I would like to share with you some of the benefits of living in an HOA community When you considered purchasing a home within an HOA for the first time, you probably had many questions. The most commonly asked question, aside from what is the purpose of an HOA is, what are the benefits of living in a homeowners association (HOA)?
First, it is essential to understand that no two HOAs are exactly alike. The amenities/common areas shared, the HOA fees billed, the agreed guidelines to live by are all dependent variables in each community, and the individual benefits of these variables may vary from one HOA to another
Architectural Controls - HOA members are required to submit for approval any modification projects to the exterior of their home. The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) reviews each submittal to ensure consistency and continuity with original community design standards. Research has shown a strong link between well-implemented HOA archi te
Associations Institute Foundation, 2017). This is likely due to the fact that effective enforcement of these rules helps preserve the community's visual charm and overall quality, making it a more desirable place to live.
Increased Community Engagement – Special events and activities, such as those we offer at Sun City Aliante, bring neighbors closer together. Studies indicate that HOAs can facilitate increased social interaction and community involvement, leading to a stronger sense of community, pride and a higher quality of life for residents.
Amenities – Sun City Aliante offers many amenities including outdoor sports courts, an indoor swimming pool, billiards, table tennis and more. Also, we are fortunate to have a golf course, owned and maintained by the City, running through our community
Common Areas – Our Management Team does an outstanding job maintaining our common areas and amenities including a remodeled and expanded Community Center and entrance areas with attractive desert scaping. If the neighborhood looks good, the community feels good.
Rules and Regulations - Each resident who owns a home in the community is held to the same set of standards for the upkeep of their home's exterior, as well as the adherence to noise policies, parking restrictions, short-term rental guidelines, etc.
Support - Living in an HOA not only offers an array of practical benefits but also instills confidence in the community's ability to maintain high standards. The added layer of support through effective partnerships with municipal code compliance departments demonstrates how HOAs are committed to delivering a superior living experience for all residents.

Dear Residents:
Happy September! Welcome new residents and welcome back to snowbirds. I hope you are settling into our community I would like to take this opportunity to remind you about watering schedules and restrictions.
As another hot Southern Nevada summer gives way to a cooler fall, it's time for the community to continue c
watering restrictions, in effect Sept. 1 through Oct. 31. The fall restrictions limit spray irrigation to three assigned days
your watering clock each season,
y seasonal watering schedules, you can save up to $300 a year on your water bill.
When it comes to reducing outdoor water use—which accounts for about 60 percent of our community's consumption—it's a good idea to follow the motto, “Drip It, Don't Drown It!” Plants and trees on drip irrigation systems need far less water than grass, which means your landscape can stay healthy and lush even with little irrigation. In fact, during the fall season, plants and trees can get by with only two days of watering per week. Duration will vary on the flow of your emitters.
While temperatures are starting to slowly cool off, residents with grass landscapes are reminded to continue running their spray irrigation systems during the early morning hours through October to minimize water lost to evaporation. Also, avoid watering when it's rainy or windy, and be sure to inspect and test your system regularly This can help you avoid overspray on sidewalks and streets, which could result in a water-waste fee. And remember, spray watering is prohibited on Sunday. For tips on how to keep your landscape healthy and vibrant all year, visit snwa.com.
Age Verification Survey: Every two years, the residents of Sun City Aliante are asked to fill out an Age Verification Survey that is used to collect the required information to ensure protection of the age-restricted community and tax status of Sun City Aliante under state and federal laws. Forms are available in the Customer Service Office or in the lobby of the Community Center Please complete this form and return it to the Front Desk or Customer Service Office as soon as possible and no later than October 31. If you have a tenant living in your residence, you are responsible for ensuring that your tenant completes the form and turns it in to management. Thank you if you have already turned in your form.
Solar panels: If you plan to add solar panels to improve energy efficiency in your home, please note these guidelines. You must install an exterior solar panel from the roof down on the utility side of your home and paint it to match the base color of your home to maintain the aesthetics of the community. In addition, consider installing deterrents, such as bird mesh, plastic predators, or roof spikes, to protect your solar panels and roof from birds. If you want to make any improvements to the outside of your home or property, you are required to submit a Home Improvement Application detailing your project to the Architectural Review Committee (ARC). Forms are available on the website. I

Enjoy the end of summer and the cooler days ahead.

COUNCILMAN RICHARD CHERCHIO - WARD 4
Hello Everyone, and Happy September:
I hope you're all doing well, and have somehow managed to deal with this summer's constant heat. Coming from the East Coast, I remember that September would normally usher in a change of weather and temperature, but not here; so, continue to be diligent in protecting yourselves when outside.
As we approach October, please remember to attend
Saturday, October 19. This year is extra special since it marks "TEN YEARS" that our non-profit is paying tribute to those of us who served and continue to serve our country and to our First Responders serving our community
Please take a moment to visit our website: nlvevents4military.org to view past events, and hopefully, with cooler weather in October, you will be able to come by and enjoy a nice day with food and entertainment. This event is made possible by many loyal volunteers who have supported it over the years. I especially appreciate our Sun City Aliante residents, Sun City Veterans Club, and Veteran's Auxiliary for their continued support.
This past month I had the pleasure of participating in
Rome Blvd. and North 5th St., just north of Centennial P k w y T h e s e u p s c a l e complexes will provide low cost housing for our seniors who need assistance in their monthly expenses. Thanks to Nevada Hand, we will now provide 220 apartments for our seniors who need our assistance in North Las Vegas. But even with this addition, we are still very short of first class, appropriate housing for our senior citizens.
Rome Pines will provide many services such as a food pantry, recreation room, exercise room, medical transportation, library, pool, and much more. I'm very pleased to have participated in making this a reality as your Councilman for our Ward 4.
Almost every day I receive emails from our residents informing me of concerns with traffic; street cleaning by the 215 exits for walkers and bikers; speeding in and outside of our community; Illegal food vendors; needed safe crossings; needed trimming of visual bush obstacles on medians; and much more. I make it a point of following up with staff on each request; so, please continue to contact me when needed.
Lastly, I want you to know the communities being built adjacent to Sun City are moving at a rapid development pace. I make it a point to drive through there often to keep updated. So far, the developers are following our agreement to build only single story homes around Sun City Aliante. This large master planned community, when completed around us, will provide amenities, as well as upscale homes that will economically benefit everyone in Sun City and the Aliante area. If you would like to receive my monthly en e w s l e t t e r t o s t a y i n t o u c h , p l e a s e e m a i l a t t h i s a d d r e s s : cherchior@cityofnorthlasvegas.com
I look forward to seeing you at the Military Veterans and First Responders Event. Have a safe September

Richard Cherchio Councilman, Ward 4

THE MANY BENEFITS OF LIVING IN AN HOA
continued from page 6
Volunteer Work - Sun City Aliante offers numerous volunteer opportunities including serving on the Board of Directors, Committees, Neighborhood Watch, Patrol, and more. Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, and gain a deeper connection to the community.
Financial Stability – Our well-managed HOA has a reserve study in place which helps the HOA plan and set aside funds for future common area repairs and capital improvements. A study published by Association Reserves found that homes in HOAs with well-funded reserve accounts had higher sales prices and were more likely to appreciate in value compared to homes in HOAs without adequate reserves.
Maintaining Property Values – the Number One Benefit – Living in a well-run association can provide a stable and well-maintained community that can contribute to the appreciation of property values.
As of July 1, 2024 Sun City Aliante HOA assessments have increased $20 per quarter, from $240 to $260, due at the beginning of July, October, January and April.
FirstService Residential accepts HOA payments made by paper check, money order and through your bank's Online Bill Pay feature. NEIGHBORHOOD
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
MONTHLY BULLETIN:
It's September. Let's make this Neighborhood Awareness month. This all starts at your front door When someone knocks or rings your doorbell, the police advise you to let them know someone is home. If you have a Ring Doorbell or something similar, you can talk to them without leaving your easy chair. Most of the time, if it's a burglar, they will leave. If it's a solicitor, ask them to leave if you are not interested in what they are offering. If you are interested, ask to see the credentials of any salesperson who comes to your home.
It could be your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain who might just have s o m e t h i n g i m p o r t
identification. They might be stopping by to introduce themselves. They might have some important community information or something to offer you about home safety. We have several new Block Captains. If you are lucky enough to have someone on your block who cares about the community and their neighbors, welcome them.
Residents are always welcome to attend our monthly Neighborhood Watch meetings. Please join us on September 19 at 4:30 p.m. in the Social Hall.

PATROL COMMITTEE
In this issue of The Breeze, we would like to introduce you to Jeff Bowers, a Sun City Aliante resident since 2021, who is a member of The Patrol. A native of Auora, Illinois, Jeff earned a BA from North Central College and an MBA from Illinois Benedictine College.
During his career, he worked as a Controller/Comptroller for a variety of businesses. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and U.S.
A r m y R e s e r v e s a n d w
m commissioned time allowed after 37 years of service - only to be called back to serve. “I was recalled from retirement 10 weeks later to serve another 3.5 years doing my last assignment, Casualty and Mortuary Affairs. My team was responsible to ensure every Soldier who died anywhere in the world was escorted, and returned to their loved ones, through Dover Port Mortuary, onto their final interment,” said Jeff. “We also ensured all benefits for the next-of-kin were initiated. During my 14 years in Casualty, I oversaw 79,000 Soldiers deaths and interments and signed 17,000 DD Form 1300 (Reports of Casualty). During those 14 years my wife remained in Illinois, while I was first stationed in Alexandria, Virginia and then at Fort Knox, Kentucky I retired for the last time as a DA Civilian with nine years of service and 46 years of Federal service.”
Jeff is a member of the Patrol Committee, and he also drives around the Sun City Aliante Community as a member of The Patrol team “The primary mission of the Sun City Aliante Patrol is to provide a presence in the community to deter and discourage crime within the community
This is accomplished through patrolling the streets of the community to establish a visual deterrent.” He also emphasized that residents have the responsibility to take the necessary steps to protect their family and property
Why should someone get involved? “This is our community, our neighborhood. If you want a safe, secure place to live you have to be part of the solution, not part of the problem,” emphasized Jeff. “Like my wife says, even a housebound person can observe out of their windows; and if they see something that doesn't look right, call the Front Desk, call Securitas, call 911. Being involved is what makes a community.”
What do you enjoy about the Patrol? “I like participating in the Patrol because
landscaping and decorating ideas of fellow residents. I wave 'Hi' to everyone I see and talk to a few of the residents while I am driving because I want this community to be friendly and welcoming to everyone. I haven't had any serious incidents, but I have assisted several residents with emergency panic lights, broken irrigation systems, and open car doors and windows. For the most part, most residents are friendly and wave back and say 'Hi.'”
Jeff is passionate about many things. “My mother taught me from an early age, never to be late, always give 100 percent, and get a thick skin because there are going to be people out there who make fun of you, ridicule you, and are just plain nasty to you. If you don't want to end up like them, then don't do as they do, treat everyone with respect and dignity and you will get it back.” Jeff is also a dedicated volunteer for Seniors Assisting Seniors and the DAV – driving veterans to their medical appointments. Thank you, Jeff, for your awesome service!

Guide To Watering Desert Plants In Hot Weather Understanding How Plants Lose water in High Heat
Being informed about how your plants absorb and process water will help you understand the principles behind watering in hot weather.
Evapotranspiration is the process by which plants cool themselves with water It requires that water be transferred to the surface of the plant. The hotter the conditions, the more transfer is required. During extreme heat waves of 115F or higher, the soil temperatures in direct sun light can reach as high as 160F, which will evaporate the m o i s t u r e i n y o u r p l a n t s ' s o i l b e f o r e t h e
EVAPOTRANSPORTATION process can begin. In short, your plants need more water in extreme heat, but it's not just the amount of water that matters. Plants also need water to be applied in the most beneficial way
Water Early
In hot weather you need to water in the mornings when it is cooler This will allow more water to reach the root system before it evaporates in the heat. There may be times when you cannot schedule watering in the morning. In this case, water the plants in the late evening. Make sure to follow the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) watering guidelines, and never water on Sundays. Don't over-saturate if you need to schedule an evening watering. Examine your irrigation system frequently for leaks and to make sure your irrigation system is running efficiently.
Be Consistent
You cannot make up for a week of missed watering in a single day
Whenever your plants are deprived of water, they suffer. Check the moisture level around the base of your plants, your soil should have the texture of a sponge that has been wrung out. Determine the
watering schedule you need to keep in order to maintain the right level of moisture. Watering every day or every two days doesn't matter nearly as much as consistent watering. Make a schedule and stick to it.
Know Your Plants' Behavior
Learn to spot changes in your plant's behavior Some plants are prone to drooping during the day in extreme temperatures. This is a type of defense mechanism. Slowing down allows the plant to use its resources more efficiently It will typically revive in the morning hours when more water can be absorbed.
Some plants get Sunscald. Extreme heat can give your plants a sunburn, just as it would to you. Leaves can get burned, crack and develop bleached spots. As your plant gets more affected, a significant amount of leaves will drop in many plants, due to an inability to use available water fast enough before it evaporates during extreme heat waves. In some cases, flowers will also drop if already existent or will simply not developed. Damage is usually worse for newly transplanted plants or young plants that are not fully established Avoid fertilizing your plants when they are heat stressed, as this will only make it worse.
Will Your Plants Recover From Heat Stress?
Recovery will depend on your care and treatment, the plant's general health and sturdiness, but most importantly how long plants were subjected to and the severity of the heatwave. Young, sick, or newly transplanted plants will have a harder time recovering and some can't recover. The best way to assure your plants recover fast is to act as soon as possible when symptoms begin to appear and to practice preventive measures.
