MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Residents,

Welcome home to our residents who have been gone for part of the summer Temperatures are lower in September than in August, but it is not unheard of that we could see an occasional 100 plus degree days, so please stay well hydrated.

I'm writing about a subject I never thought I would be addressing 10 years ago, and it concerns civility or just plain good behavior I am pleased to say that the majority of us live a peaceful and happy time in Sun City Aliante, but I have observed an increase in the number of o c c u r r e n c e s o f b e h a v i o r t h a t i s a g g r e s s i v e a n d s o m e t i m e s argumentative.

Each of us has an opinion as to why this has become an issue, and it exists outside of Sun City Aliante as well. People are more easily prone to anger If you google the cause of anger, you will see that anger is a normal reaction to stress. We have all recently experienced social isolation, a loss of routine, increased fear and prolonged uncertainty, grief and loss, and wishing for the way things used to be. Everyone experiences stress to some degree, and it is important how we express that stress to others around us and how each of us reacts to stress.

COVID has caused stress levels to skyrocket. We were isolated from others; our very life was threatened almost all the time and almost every day activity was negatively affected. Now that the initial stages of COVID are behind us, life has not returned to pre-COVID.

Supply chain issues are still with us, businesses cannot get enough help to serve us properly, prices for goods and services are through the roof, and life has changed in almost every area of society Is it any wonder that we are stressed – which manifests itself in negative and sometimes rough behavior to others.

There are many ways to cope with stress, but doctors tell us the number one way to relieve stress is to indulge in some form of moderate exercise. This can be as simple as walking 30 minutes per day while we give our minds a chance to unwind. Reading a book or enjoying time with friends is another way to put life's stress behind us; so we get “our batteries recharged.”

The bottom line to this article is to recognize that many of us are angrier than we were 2+ years ago and to recognize that there are some simple ways to find relief from the lack of control we have over everyday chores.

Be well and enjoy each day to its fullest.

Respectfully submitted,

SEPTEMBER: A MONTH OF CELEBRATION AND REFLECTION!

September marks the beginning of fall with the Autumnal Equinox on September 22. But the month also holds important national holidays including Labor Day and Patriot Day, which honors and remembers those who were killed in the September 11 attacks. S e p t e m b e r h o l i d a y s i n c l u d e r e l i g i o u s observances, cultural events, and many days dedicated to food and drink, from Cheese Pizza Day to Fried Rice Day Needless to say, you'll find September holidays that speak to your identity, background, and stomach.

The entire month of September also marks Hispanic Heritage Month, Alopecia Areata Awareness Month, and Baby Safety Month, among many

in Education, and Assisted Living. Some of these observances can weigh heavy on our hearts, but there are also celebratory moments throughout the month that can alleviate any painful memories that may arise. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is celebrated on September 15, and the Mid-Autumnal Festival, a Chinese holiday that honors the moon, happens on September 29. So much to celebrate this month. Enjoy your holiday with family and friends! Don't forget the BBQ! (Excerpts from WOMAN'S DAY, September 2022 magazine)

Wishing you a wonderful September!

Have a safe and relaxing Labor Day Weekend,

Hello Residents,

Nobody wants to admit it, but everyone is always complaining about something. Our office often gets accused of targeting individuals, especially the week after a community inspection. This could not be further from the truth. Why would we intentionally a g g r a v a t e a n d d i s r u p t y o u r h a p p y, s u n n y d a y s knowing that you know where to find us? That is like swimming off the coast of California and practicing proper chumming techniques for sharks. We are not interested; no, thank you!

What makes HOA living painful for some are the rules and conditions that members are bound to including: what they were not aware of, don't like, or the process they must follow

Okay, I'm going to throw this out there; it could also be the insufferable people who live next door or within the community This can be avoided and ignored, but truth be told, it doesn't matter if it is this HOA or the next, you may have a challenging neighbor Although, if you are lucky enough to have great neighbors around you, count your lucky stars while doing your happy dance! I do not- I do half a dance. My street is a cul-de-sac and everyone is pretty great, except for one. My husband and I endure a married couple right across from our house who love fixing their jeeps and truck while listening to Pearl Jam or Led Zeppelin on full blast.

Unfortunately, people are people; there will always be someone, and they come in all shapes and sizes. That said, be different; be nice, smile, and keep drinking your favorite beverage whether that be an iced tea, beer, or a martini – you are retired after all. If you are not retired and still working, deal with the unhappy people around you as you have to at work, on the freeway, or at Starbucks – just shake your head, smile, and keep moving on.

Last month management sent several courtesy notices to homeowners for political signs. This was not to prohibit political signs, but to inform them that they have placed their signs out too early. Please read the regulations on political signs in your governing documents. Political signs may be displayed from the date the filing period opens for which the respective office the candidate is running or the date on which the ballot question qualifies to be placed on the ballot.

According to the Nevada Secretary of State, pursuant to NRS 298.660 candidate filing for the Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) is Oct 1-15; however, October 1, 2023, and October 15, 2023 are Sundays. Therefore, the candidate filing period begins on Monday, October 2, 2023, and ends at 5 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2023.

If you have a political sign(s) displayed on your property, please remove the sign(s). See the Design Guidelines for the regulations regarding political signs; this includes the size, placement location, and how long the sign(s) can be displayed. The administrative office welcomes your questions regarding any regulation.

The Sun City Aliante administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 4 in celebration of Labor Day. The Community Center will be open regular hours from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day weekend also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans and is celebrated with parties, street parades and athletic events.

If you have any questions or need any clarifications, please contact me at 702-638-5006. Wishing you an awesome September!

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Hello Residents,

Flu season is just around the corner, and you are a potential target. Immunizations are an important factor in staying healthy and protecting against disease.

Good news! We have coordinated with Kroger/Smith's Pharmacy to offer immunizations to residents in the Community Center Parking Lot on Thursday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A unique, Mobile Vaccination Clinic will be set up in the parking lot for your convenience. The traveling clinic will be staffed by pharmacists from our local Smith's Pharmacy located on Aliante Pkwy Shots will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Many vaccines are covered under prescription plans, but if payment is needed, it can be made directly to Smith's pharmacy

The Mobile Vaccination Clinic will offer a wide range of immunizations including: the High Dose flu vaccine for people who are age 65+, regular flu vaccine, Pneumonia, Shingles and Tdap, Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and COVID. They will also offer the RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) for a respiratory virus that usually causes mild cold-like symptoms but can be serous in older adults.

Co-pays and costs will vary depending on your insurance. If you have private insurance (not Medicare) you should check with their insurance carrier prior to coming for vaccinations. Please bring your driver's license and Insurance cards with you to this event.

If you are interested in participating in the Fall 2023 Arts and Crafts Show, registration for exhibitors is scheduled on Saturday, September 16 for residents only from 10-11 a.m. We will open registration to non-residents at 11:30 a.m. The show will be held on November 10 & 11, 2023 in the Community Center We look forward to many residents joining in to take advantage of this unique opportunity

We will feature exhibitors, large and small, who specialize in offering a wide array of items to keep your home safe and secure including garage doors, safety screens and doors, rolling s h u t t e r s , h o m e s e c u r i t y s y s t e m s a n d m u c h m o r e . We w i l l a l s o h a v e representatives from clinics and hospitals sharing their products and services and expertise. The North Las Vegas Police and Fire Departments will be on hand to offer home safety tips.

It's time to start planning for the Fall Garage Sale on October 14 & 15 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a great time to get rid of the clutter, clean out your closets and get organized. Do you really need items you have been storing away for safe keeping but you never use? Your clutter may be someone's treasure.

Please mark your calendar for another popular event, the Advertiser's Meet 'n' Greet on Thursday, October 26 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Our Breeze Advertisers usually offer tremendous giveaways and great door prizes, and we always have light breakfast treats you can enjoy while you browse and chat with exhibitors about their latest products and service.

I also want to remind you about some of our seminars. Meet an expert from the Southern Nevada Water Authority, Toby Bickmore, on September 11. Join Sean Kearny on September 27 and learn how to organize, view, send and manage your iPhone photos, along with a great bunch of tips and tricks.

If you have any questions, please email me at twilliamson@suncityaliante.us or call 702-429-1623.

Enjoy the beautiful fall season!

COUNCILMAN WARD 4 RICHARD CHERCHIO

Hello Sun City Residents,

I hope you have found ways to stay cool during this hot summer I am so happy to share with you everything that has been going on in the City of North Las Vegas. I wanted to begin with an announcement that should excite your pups! Our 4th Annual Paws in the Park event will be taking place this fall. Mark your calendars for October 7 and plan to visit us at Aliante Nature Discovery Park. Get ready for a fun time with family, friends and furry friends as there will be vendors, food trucks, a dog costume contest, dog and 'hooman' twinning contest, dog vaccinations and microchipping, and lots of fun activities!

In other exciting news, the Splash Bash Pool Party held at the YMCA of Southern Nevada Skyview Y had a great turnout. It was wonderful to see so many community members having fun and taking advantage of the free school supplies and goodies. A special thanks to Meadow Gold for giving out over 500 sweet treats and to everyone who came out!

Speaking of back to school, the City of North Las Vegas is proud to announce our partnership with the N e v a d a A s s o c i a t i o n o f S c h o o l

Administrators and two North Las Ve g a s s c h o o l s T h r o u g h t h i s

partnership educators at Sedway

Middle School and Cheyenne High

School will receive professional development at no cost to them.

Most importantly, the year-long

t r a i n i n g w i l l b e t a i l o r e d t o t h e community they serve We look f o r w a r d t o w i t n e s s i n g t h e sustainable change that this program will bring to the students at both schools and ultimately benefit our community

Continuing with the good news, the City of North Las Vegas hosted Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA) members for a tour of our Apex Industrial Park. The city has been at the forefront of diversifying Southern Nevada's economy, bringing in industries outside of the area's traditional hospitality and gaming companies. This is good not only for Southern Nevada but for our residents as well. Our city is recruiting companies that can provide our residents - you, your children, and your grandchildren - with good paying, sustainable careers. Out at Apex Industrial Park, the average hourly wage for companies locating there will be between $24 all the way up to $58.

Now we know things don't always go as planned, and I wanted to provide an important resource to our residents who may be having issues regarding postal service or other items taken care of by federal offices. Our office is always happy to help, but you may receive a faster solution if you go straight to the source. If you need to file a complaint regarding postal service or other i s s u e s , p l e a s e v i s i t C o n g r e s s m a n S t e v e n H o r s f o r d ' s w e b s i t e https://horsford.house.gov/contact. On the homepage of the website, click Services > Help with a Federal Agency > Click Submit Your Request and then follow through the steps to submit your complaint in detail.

As always, I want to encourage you to keep your dogs and pets safe during this excessive summer heat and to follow Ordinance No. 3053 which requires animals to be properly sheltered and cared for while being kept outdoors.

Yours in service,

NORTH LAS VEGAS WATER SMART CONSERVATION PROGRAMS

Friday, September 15, 10 a.m.

The City of North Las Vegas Utilities Department promotes “Water Smart” programs to encourage water conservation. In this dry desert environment, water is the most precious resource. Lake Mead is the main drinking water source for the Las Vegas Valley, and since January 2000, the surface elevation has decreased over 150 feet, which has reduced the storage capacity of Lake Mead to less than 50 percent.

Together we can learn to “Be Water Smart” and work to sustain our drinking water sources for the future. To conserve water, please adjust all irrigation clocks according to the days permitted in your assigned watering group. The assigned watering groups are mandatory for all water customers. Using sprinklers on days other than those assigned, wastes water and could result in fines. Potential fines for single-family residential services start at $80 and double with each violation. Fines are based on the water meter size on the account.

Join Conservation and Sustainability Administrator Amanda Dillard to learn about North Las Vegas's Water Conservation Program and helpful tips for residents to conserve water when using spray and drip irrigation systems. For more information on assigned watering groups and the mandatory watering schedule, visit www.cityofnorthlasvegas.com. If you would like to report water waste, contact the Conservation team at (702) 633-1216 or at Conservation@cityofnorthlasvegas.com.

HOW TO BE A FRIEND TO SOMEONE WHO HAS CANCER

Your friend has been diagnosed with cancer You've sent a card to express how much you care and that you're there if they need help. Now what? Feeling out of your league is normal. But chances are you already have the tools to be a supportive and valued friend. Even small gestures can help your friend feel supported, loved, and taken care of. So take a breath, and dive in.

Find your role. You're in a new phase of your friendship. Play to your strengths to find how you can best help. Are you a good listener?

Join us for the FREE Home Safety & Health Expo, hosted by Sun City Aliante Neighborhood Watch, on Saturday, September 30 at the Sun City Aliante Community Center in the Vista Room from 9 a.m. to noon. Some of our featured exhibitors will include HOME DEPOT, SAM'S CLUB, AAA and more. We are also reaching out to the North Las Vegas Police and Fire Departments and Medical Facilities to bring their home safety and health experts.

All Sun City Aliante residents are encouraged to attend this Expo. This event offers a unique opportunity for you to meet many local vendors who specialize in home safety products and services and health facilities and services.

In addition to the latest information on home and health safety, we will offer free raffle prizes donated by participating vendors.

We have invited exhibitors, large and small, such as businesses and o r g a n i z a t i o n s t o d i s p l a y t h e i r products and services and offer tips which are directly related to m a i n t a i n i n g a s a f e and secure home and a h e a l t h y l i f e s t y l e This is your chance to avoid the hassle of driving and shopping for items.

Please join us to meet o u r e x h i b i t o r s a n d check out the many home safety items and health items offered, such as, safety front and back doors, garage doors, safety screens, shutters, home security systems as well as heating and air conditioning and lighting companies and much more.

Your Neighborhood Watch Team invites you to participate in this valuable, funfilled safety event. Please mark your calendar for Saturday, September 30.

Check to see if your friend is open to visits. Maybe a weekly or monthly date to drink tea and catch up. Are you an organizational wizard? Offer your services as a meal and ride scheduler. Having a regular role to play could be a huge help to your friend and the caregivers in their life. And it can bring you closer together

Embrace the new normal. Don't assume your friend is down for the count socially They'll need friend time to get through. So start a conversation and reach out periodically What time of day are they least tired? What activities are especially draining? Maybe they won't be up for your usual movie night. But a walk in the middle of the day could be perfect. Include your friend in your plans and let them tell you if the commitment is too much. You'll find what works.

Talk a little less. After a diagnosis, there's a good chance your friend is fielding questions, listening to other people's cancer stories, getting unsolicited advice and hearing "it's going to be all right" on a regular basis. Often what's needed is the space to open up. Being there to really listen says, "I care about you. I respect you. I'm here for you and I'm not going away."

Take care of yourself. Specifically, your reaction to your friend's cancer Ask a friend outside the situation to talk it through with you. Sorting through your own feelings, fears and insecurities about the diagnosis is crucial. It'll mean that when you're with your friend who has cancer you can be more present to their feelings and needs. And caring for yourself can give you the energy to be there for your friend in the long run.

Remember, there's no one right way to be there, and no one does it perfectly. So be gentle with yourself and open to change. Having a regular role to play could be a huge help to your friend and the caregivers in their life. And it can bring you closer together

September will be a big month for Classy Chefs, as they will reconvene after a summer hiatus for some of the membership. The new co-chairs will discuss their ideas for the upcoming calendar, as well as operating principles practices for the club. Due to the club business that will need to be discussed, the format will be a cold potluck (bring your dish to share already prepared).

Classy Chefs usually meet the first Tuesday of each month in the Vista Room at 9:30 am. However, to avoid conflicts with the Labor Day holiday, the September meeting will be delayed until the second Tuesday, September 12. Beginning in September, there will be an annual $10 dues to help cover costs of plates, decorations and overages at the monthly meetings. The usual $5 per meeting will continue to support the meals, with the exception of September, which will be the $10 dues charge only, due to the potluck format for that meeting. BlvdHome opened a new 100,000-square-foot store in Las Vegas last month with a ribbon-cutting event on July 13. Located on the northwest side of Las Vegas on Rancho Dr and Craig Rd., it will be the fifth location for the St. George, Utah-based retailer, and its second in Nevada.

The new Las Vegas location features a variety of products including living room furniture, dining sets, bedroom sets, kitchen and laundry appliances, mattresses and home decor items. The store is a destination unto itself and features a towering waterfall wall, a giant rock display, a snack bar and a bargain area along with countless displays of beautiful furniture and home furnishings.

The story of BlvdHome began in 1974, when founder Lester Wittwer's son Tony Wittwer decided to venture away from the family's other businesses and explore the world of furniture retailing. He started with just two full-time employees and a small showroom of only 8,000 square feet. Tony was on hand to celebrate the opening of the Vegas store, and his nephew, COO Tyler Wittwer had high praise for the vision of his Uncle Tony "He always did things big and in grand style although sometimes he had to convince his brothers to go big," Tyler said. ". We owe a debt of gratitude to him for helping us get to where we are today."

BlvdHome now has five retail locations with over 250,000 square feet of showroom space.

Hadassah Community High Holiday Services

The Sun City Aliante Havarah and Hadassah are once again hosting lay Jewish High Holiday Services at the Sun City Aliante Community Center All are welcome. The dates for 2023 are Rosh Hashanah, Saturday, September 16th; Kol Nidre, Sunday, September 24th; Yom Kippur, Monday September 25th. Plans are being made to celebrate the holidays in our club house. More specific information will be forthcoming.

Rosh Hashanah, means the "head of the year," and is the Jewish New Year. The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah, literally "day of shouting/blasting". It is the first of the Jewish High Holy Days, which usually occur in the early autumn. Rosh Hashanah observances include candle lighting in the evenings, and festive meals welcoming the sweetness of the year ahead, which often includes challah bread and apples dipped in honey Prayer services include the sounding of the ram's horn (shofar). Following Rosh Hashanah, the "Ten Days of Repentance" is observed, marking the opportunity to reflect on any sins and transgressions over the past 12 months.

Kol Nidre is a declaration chanted in the synagogue before the beginning of the evening service on Yom Kippur, when fasting begins. The New Year represents a fresh start.

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year in Judaism. It marks the culmination of the 10 Days of Awe. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with fasting and intensive prayer, often spending much of the day in synagogue services.

Break-the-Fast is the meal eaten at the end of the fast day It is enjoyed after the sounding of the shofar
