MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello My Friends,
At this writing, I just returned from last night's Community Association's Institute (CAI) gala at the Plaza Casino and Hotel. It was another special evening, as we once again won the Outstanding Large Association Aw a r d , t h i s t i m e f o r 2 0 2 2 T h i s a c c o m p l i s h m e n t w a s f o r a n unprecedented 4th win in the last 5 years.
It is always gratifying to be recognized in an industry of many outstanding HOAs, but it is even more important for what it really signifies. We are a community of over 2,000 homes and around 3,500 people who have created an atmosphere of friendship, trust, and a set of values unmatched by other HOAs. Of course, we have our differences but we never lose sight of who we really are. We have an unparalleled Board of Directors and the absolute best staff of First Service employees who always represent us in the most favorable way Damian and his staff never disappoint us because they care about this community and regard us as family What a beautiful relationship we have here, as 19 employees always support us 100% of the time. Am I crowing? Absolutely!
This year's award had us competing with Red Rock Country Club Homeowners Association, Sun City Anthem Community Association and Canyon Gate Master Association, to name a few You should be proud to have chosen to make us your home, and speaking for your current Board of Directors, we will never abandon our fiduciary obligation to Sun City Aliante.
May brings much to celebrate. Cinco de Mayo, Mother's day, Military Appreciation month and Memorial day Enjoy the month filled with favorite foods and reflection of memories, and in honor of those who gave their time and, in many cases, their life in keeping us free.
Respectfully,
Warren M Geller President, Sun City Board of Directors
Sun City Aliante Has Been Honored As The Southern Nevada Outstanding Large Association For 2022

MAY – A MONTH OF CELEBRATIONS
By the time May comes around, the spring flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and life is starting to seem a little more joyful day by day! The month of May, named after the ancient Greek goddess Maia, also brings us many celebrations. It includes May Day on May 1, Cinco de Mayo on May 5, Mother's Day on May 14 and closes with the federal holiday, Memorial Day on May 29.
Sprinkled in between these celebrations are graduation days for high school and college students across the country Do you remember your g r a d u a t i o n ? We a r e l o o k i n g f o r w a r d t o o u r fi r s t g r a n d s o n ' s undergraduate commencement activities this month.
On May Day, we celebrate improved working conditions. In years past in Europe, it wasn't a good May if you didn't celebrate it with a maypole. Since at least 1350 AD., celebrants would erect a long pole and attach flowers, garlands, and strips of fabric to it, and dance around the maypole. A fond memory is dancing around the maypole with friends and enjoying treats and gifts.
On Cinco de Mayo, we celebrate May 5, 1865 when Mexico defeated France in the Battle of Puebla. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage. On the second Sunday of May, we celebrate Mother's Day, a very special day to honor the nurturer and teacher of life's skills. On Memorial Day, we remember and honor the members of our armed services for their ultimate sacrifice and ensuring our freedom. Thank you!
Some Fun Facts about May include:
• May is a special time for Star Wars fans worldwide and always a good reason to re-watch the movies. May the 4 is celebrated as Star Wars day, due to the way the date sounds similar to “May the Force.”
• May also has two Zodiac signs, Taurus and Gemini. People born under the sign of Taurus are said to be ambitious and smart, yet trustworthy. Those born under the sign of Gemini are said to be passionate, adaptable, and smart.
• May is one of seven months that have 31 days.
• The proverb April showers bring May flowers dates back to at least the 1500s!

T h i s p r e s t i g i o u s a w a r d , w h i c h i s considered the equivalent of the “CAI Oscar,” was presented at the annual CAI Dinner Gala held at the Plaza Casino & Hotel on Friday, March 31, 2023.
This is the fifth consecutive year that CAI nominated Sun City Aliante for this award. Most recently, we won the award in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022. In 2020, we were also nominated for the award.
In addition, Warren Geller, President of the Sun City Aliante Board of Directors, and I, were nominated by CAI respectively as Board Member of the Year and Onsite Manager of the Year for the third consecutive year
This award is an acknowledgement of the foresight, commitment and passion of our Board of Directors and team of staff members who work to enrich the amenities, experiences, and quality of life for all Sun City Aliante residents. We are now working on the Budget for the Fiscal Year 2023-2024. The Budget Process began in February The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the financial status and operations of the Association and its three money funds – Operating, Reserve and Capitalization. The Finance Advisory Committee (FAC) assists the Board and provides recommendations.
The Operating Fund is budgeted each fiscal year to monitor and control operating expenditures. The Budget process takes many months. Beginning in February, I prepare worksheets which are analyzed by the Finance Committee, and we look at the trends in all line items to determine the best course of action to recommend to the Board of Directors for the financial well-being of the community
During April, we make the necessary tweaks to the document and develop a presentation outlining the proposed budget and a 5-Year Plan, which will be presented to the Board.
During the Board of Directors and Finance Committee's Budget Workshop, members of the Board and Committee discuss the proposed budgets for the next Fiscal Year
This year the Budget Workshop was held on April 26, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the Vista Room. The Workshop was open to all homeowners.
The next step in the process is the adoption of the Budget by the Board at the May 10 meeting of the Board of Directors. In late May, a summary of the Operating, Reserve and Capitalization budgets will be mailed to all homeowners.
The last step in the process is the Budget Ratification Meeting when homeowners can consider ratification of the Budget. The Budget shall automatically become effective unless disapproved at the meeting by 67 percent of the homeowners.
The Budget Ratification Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 14, at 9:45 a.m. in the Vista Room in the Community Center prior to the Board of Directors meeting. This meeting is open to all Sun City Aliante homeowners.
If the budget is adopted and ratified, it will be effective July 1, 2023.
I encourage you to celebrate with us by attending our Award Event in June and be sure to participate in the 2023 Board Election.
Best wishes and enjoy our warmer weather
Damian Carrasco General Manager Sun City Aliante

Hello! It's getting warmer and that means mundane habits that become problematic or troublesome will be on the rise. For example, opening garage doors slightly to let in fresh air Keeping back patio sliding d o o r s o p e n , l e a v i n g v e h i c l e s w i t h o u t c l o s i n g windows, or forgetting to drink plenty of water Any of these can present issues for you; so, please be mindful of them.
Garage doors, vehicle windows, and sliding doors habitually left open can be forgotten, ergo leaving opportunities for a thief to go in and out without being noticed. As a resident, you are responsible for your safety and to safeguard your property, not the association and certainly not management.
Soon dormant trees will start to show life; leaves will grow and flowers will bloom. Shrubs and plants will look greener and healthier If they are not, that means they are damaged or dead; so, they must be removed and/or replaced. If you have more than one tree on the front or side of your property but one is dead, you may remove one without replacing it.
Please remember if you live in a corner home and have a tree with long branches near a stop sign, neatly trim the branches; so, they do not cover any signage. For those of you who contract the maintenance of your front and side landscape, kindly instruct your vendors to not blow debris onto the adjacent properties and common areas. Remember, you are responsible for the conduct of your vendors and guests on the property. Let them know they should neatly put away refuse after they finish trimming and cutting tree branches and raking leaves. I do acknowledge there are excellent, professional vendors out there, and such reminders are not necessary; but for those who are not consistent, please take it upon yourselves to give them instructions.
Also, please remember that home modification applications must be submitted to the Sun City Aliante Architectural Review Committee (ARC), NOT the Aliante Master Community Please inform your solar panel vendors to send proposals and application forms to our office. The Aliante Master office located on Deer Springs Rd. will reject these applications. We are autonomous from the Aliante Master when it comes to approvals or denials of Architectural Design modifications. Carol Garbarino, Customer Service Coordinator, will be more than happy to assist you in filling out the form or answer questions should you n e e d h e l p Y o u c a n c o n t

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR COUNCILMAN WARD 4 RICHARD CHERCHIO Dear Residents,
This issue of The Breeze features an article by Joe Caggiano and the members of the Communications Committee, which focuses on the weekly eblast. The eBlast is designed to provide members of Sun City Aliante timely information regarding special events - on and off property, educational seminars, Board and Committee meetings, special notices and much more. There are three separate eBlasts usually sent out on Thursdays: Meetings and Notices, Lifestyle Special Events (which also includes Club and Special Interest Group news and events at the end) and Lunch 'n' Learn and Snack 'n' Learn Seminars.
I highly recommend that you sign up to receive the eBlast to stay informed on what's happening in your community. See the article on page 17 for details.
Mark your calendar to attend the May 22 Spring Luncheon with Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick. Come enjoy lunch and celebrate the season with your friends and neighbors. As you know, Commissioner Kirkpatrick always offers a delicious menu and valuable information about issues that directly affect seniors and veterans.
Also, for the first time, we will feature a representative from the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Claire Clarke, offering a presentation about how to live with and enjoy wildlife on May 25. Find out what to do if you find a baby bird on the ground. Learn how to deter a coyote or discourage wildlife from making your home their own.
This year we celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday, May 14 Mother's Day gives us a special opportunity to show our gratitude to moms, stepmoms, grandmas, and all the other maternal figures in our lives. If you are lucky enough to still have a mother, grandmother or even “a special person in your life who has been like a mother to you,” please cherish every moment with her and give thanks. Many of us just have our wonderful memories with mom, and we cherish those as well. A special note of appreciation to all our Sun City Aliante mothers. Please take the time out to enjoy your special day
Here are a few fun facts about Mother's Day:
• The current Mother's Day was started by Anna Jarvis in the early 1900s. She persuaded Congress to recognize Mother's Day as a holiday, founded the Mother's Day International Association, and even trademarked the phrase “Mother's Day.” She was inspired by her own mother, who had called for “Mother's Workdays” to improve conditions for soldiers during the Civil War
• President Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day an official holiday in 1914.
• According to Hallmark, about 113 million cards are exchanged every year
• According to a recent YouGov poll, American mothers' top pics for Mother's Day were a card, flowers, and/or a special experience with their family
• Ancient myths allude to the fact that Greeks and Romans celebrated Mother's Day by honoring the Cybele, symbolizing Mother Earth and Rhea, mother of the Gods.
(Source: Excerpts from “20 Mother's Day Facts That'll Make You See the Holiday in New Light, Woman's Day, March 18, 2022.)
On May 31, we will commemorate Memorial Day, a patriotic holiday to honor and salute members of the U.S. Armed Forces who gave their lives, the ultimate sacrifice, to preserve the freedoms we hold dear
I always welcome your comments and suggestions. If you have any questions, please call or text me at 702-429-1623 or email twilliamson@suncityaliante.us.
Trish Williamson Editor, The Breeze
Hello Sun City Residents,
I hope you are enjoying a warm and wonderful spring season. I am delighted to share with you everything that has been going on in the City of North Las Vegas and plant the seeds (pun intended) for exciting things to come.
I wanted to begin by thanking all of you who attended or joined us via web for our 2023 State of the City Address. If you missed it, check out the city's homepage at cityofnorthlasvegas com for a full overview, event recording and our video entitled 'Writing a New Chapter for the City of North Las Vegas.'
In other exciting news, our North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) is continuing recruitment for both new and lateral hires. The City is offering impressive signing bonuses and incentive packages, so if you or someone you know may be interested in protecting and serving our fine city, please share the
t joinnlvpd.com.
Continuing on our public safety related announcements, I am proud to announce that longtime NLVPD team member, Captain Adam Hyde was invited to participate in the FBI National Academy and has successfully graduated! Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the rigorous ten week advanced training program; so, this is truly an accomplishment! As your elected leader, I am thrilled to have this level of expertise and commitment to serving the residents of North Las Vegas and our Aliante Community!
In other non-safety and more tasty, related news, we recently welcomed another eatery to our Craig Road Restaurant Row‒ Pinkbox Doughnuts! I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening event, getting to know more about the business owners and their investments in our community, and sampling some delicious donuts! If you have not tried Pinkbox yet, or even if you have, I urge you to stop by our Craig Road location. You're in for a treat.
Speaking of new additions to the community, construction is underway at The Villages at Tule Springs. DR Horton Homebuilders are currently constructing homes in Village 1, Phase 1 and they are perfect for single-families. The homes located immediately adjacent to Sun City Aliante are single-story and feature larger lots (6,000+ square feet), similarly to the upgraded lots here in Aliante. The next phase of construction will also contain two executive lots ranging from 10,000-20,000 square feet in size and featuring higher-end homes. These design elements offer a welcome addition and are in alignment with the general characteristics of our neighborhood.
Lastly, I wanted to share a few upcoming events this month:
• Sun City Aliante Spring Arts & Crafts Show: Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sun City Aliante Community Center This event is open to the general public. For more information, please contact Elaine Goddard or Lori Daniels at 702-638-5000.
• The CNLV Senior Resource Health Fair: Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Liberty Park in front of North Las Vegas City Hall. There will be presentations from doctors accompanied by a variety of free health screenings (blood pressure, diabetes, vision exams and more). Come enjoy free lunch, win raffle prizes, and more. For additional information, please contact 702-326-8012.
• Sun City Aliante Spring Fling Social (for Sun City Residents): Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 10 a.m. - noon in the Vista Room. For tickets or more information, please call the Front Desk at 703-6385000.

NEIGHBORHOOD
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTHLY BULLETIN:
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
This is that time of the year when residents will be heading out of town. Some people will leave for the summer, a month, a week or maybe just a holiday weekend. There are a few things you MUST do before you leave. It starts by letting a neighbor or your Block Captain (if you have one) know where you are going and for how long.
Give that person your cell phone number. Be sure to stop the newspaper. Do not order online packages to be delivered while you are gone. The most important thing you should do is shut the water off in the garage by turning the lever with the yellow sleeve to the up position.
This will shut the water off to the house, but not the drip system for the outdoor trees and shrubs. It is also a good idea to leave a house key and, possibly, a mailbox key with a neighbor or someone who can check on your home, if there is a problem.
Our next monthly Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held at 4 p.m. on May 18 in the Social Hall in the Community Center All residents are welcome.
For information regarding the Sun City Aliante Neighborhood Watch program, contact our coordinator, Jim Blossey, at jimandpatb@embarqmail.com or 775530-5119.
Be safe. If you see something, say something. Your Neighborhood Watch Block Captains
PATROL COMMITTEE
Security patrol can always use new volunteers. The patrol is open to volunteers who can spare a couple of hours a week to help keep our community safe and help our residents in need. We have a Ride Along Program where you can ride with a volunteer to see what we are all about. Patrol and Ride Along applications are at the Front Desk of the Community Center
Several of our volunteers have passed the 100hour patrol mark and have received certificates. We wish to show appreciation and thanks for every member of the patrol, some are new, and others have been around for several years. All contribute to the safety and well-being of the residents of Sun City
While on patrol, volunteers saw a gentleman laying on the floor of his garage with the garage door open. He needed immediate medical attention and the volunteers called for emergency services. Our volunteers take their patrol seriously and use guidance and good judgement while on patrol.
Three new things to do in 2023:
Ÿ Update your emergency contact information
Ÿ Restock your first aid kit
Ÿ Take a CPR, AED or First Aid class.
For information regarding the Sun City Aliante Patrol, contact the Patrol Chairman Phil Zanello at zp9@aol.com or 702-460-9582.

A GREAT COMMUNCATION RESOURCE: THE WEEKLY EBLAST
Why should you opt in and not opt out!
T h e C o m m u n i c a t i o n Committee would like to take this opportunity to share one of the tools we use as a community: the e B l a s t W i t h a l l t h e activities offered at Sun City Aliante, the eBlast is one of the best reminder tools A priority of the Association and Staff is to offer residents great events, educational seminars, and outings that inform and add quality to our lives. Each eBlast has a specific focus that includes important information. The focus may be a chance to sign up for an event or a reminder that a specific event is coming up. Let's take a look at the different types of eBlasts.
Lifestyle Special Events
This eBlast informs you of the latest upcoming events, as well as information on new events that are open for registration. This eBlast serves as both a reminder and an announcement. It also provides updates if an event is sold out or cancelled. Our Staff is always working hard to find events that strike the right chord, events you can easily attend with a group of friends, making these outings special. There is value in a Lifestyle Special Event eBlast.
Meeting and Notices
This eBlast informs you of all the Board and Committee meetings of the Association as well as valuable general information Meetings are important to the inner workings of our community You are invited to attend all meetings (except for Board Executive Sessions and Covenants). Committee meetings are where all the information about projects are researched for costs and scope of work and the desires of the Board of Directors are considered. The Board of Directors has the final say in each expenditure. Rarely does a project just happen, it takes your fellow homeowners, serving as committee members, working as a team, to ensure the best outcomes. Every committee meeting is attended by staff member and a board liaison; so, things always stay on point. The Association encourages each homeowner to attend any meeting that piques their interest. While you can't take part in the committee deliberations unless you are a member, you get a great sense of the time and effort each committee engages in to see a project through. There is value in the Meeting and Notice eBlast.
Lunch 'n' Learn and Snack 'n' Learn Seminars
This eBlast keeps you informed of the many upcoming Lunch 'n' Learn and Snack 'n' Learn educational seminars the Staff has planned. Usually hosted by The Breeze advertisers, each one has its own purpose. You may become more interested in a subject that all of a sudden has more meaning to you at certain stages of life. Each seminar focuses on a particular topic designed to improve or add value to our lives. This eBlast may have the most effect on your life to increase your knowledge on specific subjects.
Special Notices
This eBlast provides targeted, timely information that you need to be aware of immediately Right now, you are receiving election notices for the Board of Directors. Elections are a regular function of community life; you are electing people to act on your behalf. Taking time to read all special notices is crucial. Staff and the Association want you to be aware of the important information that may not be found in The Breeze. For example, during the Global Pandemic, these eBlasts were very important as they provided targeted information. There is value in the Special Notices eBlast at certain points throughout the year
Our FirstService Residential staff, along with Board of Directors, work hard to bring quality events that enhance life at Sun City Aliante. You will find value in being informed. If an email is not relevant just delete it. The next one could be right up your alley
To sign up for the eBlast, just stop by the Front Desk and tell one of the Lifestyle Associates, you want to sign up for the eBlast, complete the information on the “green card,” turn it in and you are ready to go. Alternatively, you can go online to your personal profile. If you are already registered on the website, just login, go to your profile information, select “Update Profile,” and go to the bottom of the form and select “yes” to receive the eBlast. If you are not registered, just select “Register” and fill in the information including “Yes” for eBlast at your listed email address. Then select “I Am Not a Robot” and select “Continue.” Someone from the C o m m u n i c a t i o n C o m m i t t e e w i l l v e r i f y a n d c o m p l e t e t h e registration process.
A note about The Breeze This publication is a very important tool. Most events are published in The Breeze. There are inserts that include meeting times as well as club and fitness schedules. Advertisers in The Breeze do business in our community, and they are trying to improve your quality of life. Their ads pay for the magazine, with any extra monies beyond expenditures for The Breeze going back to the community

WHY EVERY SENIOR NEEDS A LONG-TERM HEALTH CARE PLAN
Thursday, May 4, 10 a.m.
Tom Hegan, the author of "Don't Worry, Retire Happy!" says, “You must have a plan for Long-Term Care." It is one of the greatest risks seniors face during their retirement years.
Join Ron Walton, a retired Healthcare Administrator who has provided care for thousands of seniors during his 35 years, running Skilled Nursing, Rehab and Assisted Living Facilities.
He will share his first-hand experience of the financial and health risks of not having a plan. He will also discuss the many options currently available for access to the extended care you desire and at prices you can afford.
Do not limit your options by not having a plan. No one believes they will need Long-Term Care (LTC) in the future but 52 percent of people over 65 will need some type of LTC services in their lifetime. The risk for women is even higher at 58 percent. The current cost for LTC in Las Vegas is between $3,800 to $11,165 a month. It you fail to plan; you plan to fail.

MACULAR DEGENERATION: THE LEADING CAUSE OF BLINDNESS
Thursday, May 11, 11 a.m.
What is it? Age-related macular degeneration, also referred to as AMD, is one of the most common causes for severe vision loss within the United States among adults above the age 60. Unfortunately, a lot of the people who suffer with AMD do not realize they have a macular problem until they start to see blurring or distortion in their vision.
The term AMD refers to the gradual and continual breakdown of the macula, the portion in a person's eye that helps to provide the detailed central vision that is required for clearly seeing objects. Over time, deterioration of the eye can have a serious impact on an individual's ability to read well, drive safely, recognize faces, navigate stairs, and perform a variety of other daily tasks.
What can be done about it? Learn about the latest in diagnosis and treatment for maintaining your eyesight with a physician from Nevada Eye Physicians. He will provide tips on the best treatments and supplements. Lunch will be served.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT “GOING SOLAR”
Friday, May 26, 11 a.m.
Join Jorge Saal of ROBCO Electric on May 26 and get the facts you need to make an educated decision about going solar You will learn:
How solar works with the “Grid” - The bidirectional meter measures your energy usage, and excess energy goes back to the “Grid” and gets credited to your account at 75% of the retail price.
Get a smaller bill with Net Metering - With net metering, NV Energy credits your power bill for the excess energy produced. What you send back wipes out what you use at 100% - a 1-for-1 ratio. Any extra production for the month is banked at 75% of the retail price. You'll use that credit to pay for any power you need from the grid, at night or during the summer
The Federal solar tax credit -The largest, non-income limited tax credit you can get. It's not a deduction. Credits reduce how much you owe in taxes. As of August 2022, the credit is 30% of the cost of your system. You can carry over unused credit to future tax years. He will also discuss what “going solar” should cost and ways to finance it.

LEARN ABOUT THE FIRST 5-STAR RATED MEDICARE PLAN IN CLARK COUNTY
Tuesday, May 30, 11 a.m. .
Did you know Medicare and CMS rate Medicare Advantage Plans every year? Medicare uses information from member satisfaction surveys, plans, and health care providers to give overall performance star ratings to plans. A plan can get a rating between 1 and 5 stars. A 5-star rating is considered excellent. These ratings help you compare plans based on quality and performance. Medicare updates these ratings each fall for the following year. These ratings can change each year.
Join Andrea and Brandon Scott on May 30 to hear about the first 5Star rated plan in Clark Country, Nevada. They will outline how you can use the 5-star Special Enrollment Period to switch from your current Medicare plan to a Medicare plan with a “5-star” quality rating.

The Aliante Songsters, a group of 40 talented singers and musicians, presented their Spring Concert on April 21 and 22 to sold out audiences. The concert theme was "Music In My Life" and was skillfully directed by Lorraine Zanello. The music performed was uplifting, familiar and heartfelt with the choir s i n g i n g s w e e t h a r m o n i e s T h e r e w e r e d u e t , t r i o , q u a r t e t a n d s e x t e t performances which added a nice variety to the concert line up. The concert was a huge success because of the many hours of hard work put in by the director and members of Songsters for three months prior to the concert. Bravo Songsters!
This was Jane Mehta's last concert. Jane has been accompanying and performing with the Songsters for 13 years. She will be greatly missed. The Songsters say, “Thank you, Jane, for all your time and talents you have shared with us and the enjoyment you have brought to the Aliante community.”

INTERNET SERVICE
On Thursday, May 4, the Technology Club will discuss some alternative home internet options. After years of having to choose between only Cox and CenturyLink, residents now have two additional choices at much lower prices: T-Mobile Wireless Internet and Verizon Wireless internet.
Assuming the service is available in your area, the cost savings and the technical performance compares very favorably to Cox and CenturyLink The discussion will include current experience with the new internet services. Residents are encouraged to research and compare these services with their current internet service provider
Please also mark your calendar for the meeting on Thursday June 1, when the topic will be an update to the very popular topic “Alternatives to Cable TV (Cutting the Cord).”
