MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Residents,

I want to begin by expressing my thanks to all of you homeowners who voted in the latest Board of Directors election. It is one of the most important acts you can perform, as your Board makes decisions that affect every resident of Sun City Aliante.

As you know, it is expected that our assessments will go up by $30/quarter ($10/month). This increase is due primarily to inflation which is causing us to spend more money than previously spent on the same service. We see this daily in the costs of goods and services for our family budget and this translates as well to running a large association.

In addition, as Sun City Aliante ages, replacement costs for large items becomes necessary such as A/C, exercise equipment, roofing, etc. which have high price tags.

To keep us as a fiscally sound HOA, we are putting more money into our Reserve Budget than the current fiscal year to accomplish the replacement of aging items. Although any increase in assessments is not pleasurable, I think an increase of 14% is not too much in light of how much the cost of everything else is going up in comparison.

June is a busy commemorative month. We remember the WWII D-Day anniversary, Flag day, U.S. Army birthday, Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, the celebration of the end of slavery, and the official beginning of summer

JUNE – STATE OF THE INDUSTRY IN 2023

Recently, the Nevada Chapter of Community Associations Institute (CAI) was honored to have Dawn M. Bauman, Sr Vice President of Government Affairs for Community Associations Institute (CAI) National, speak at the monthly meeting in Las Vegas. Her presentation was titled “State of the Industry,” regarding Common Interest Communities (CIC)/ Homeowners Associations (HOA) industry Her presentation highlighted 6 areas of focus:

MENTAL HEALTH & THREATS OF VIOLENCE

The focus on mental health and violence is not limited to just our own communities. Reports of violent acts have been reported across the country A survey of CAI members conducted in early 2023 indicates 45% of respondents are greatly concerned or moderately concerned about their safety This is a significant increase from a similar survey conducted in 2019 which indicated 29% of respondents were greatly concerned or moderately concerned. As concerns about personal safety grow, we all need to be prepared to identify personal safety measures that we can take.

COMMON ELEMENTS SAFETY

After the collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Florida, associations are focusing more on safety of common elements of a HOA. Reserve Studies are being scrutinized to ensure funds are available for needed maintenance and repairs to avoid unsafe conditions.

In Nevada, professionally compiled Reserve Studies and liability insurance are required by state statute (NRS116). A reserve study identifies the adequacy of funds to sufficiently maintain common elements without using funds from the operating account and without special assessments. An association's budget MUST include a budget for the reserves. The funds in a reserve account may not be used for operating expenses. Nevada law also requires a reserve study to be conducted at least every 5 years with annual adjustments to the funding plan for required reserves. As common elements and buildings age, the Reserve Study becomes more important to ensure the safety of all common elements.

RISING COSTS

In a recent survey conducted by CAI, nearly 90% of all community associations reported increases in expenses, primarily in landscape services, management services and daily operational expenses, including utilities. These increases will lead to increases in budgets which will primarily be covered by increased assessments.

As of the candidate submission deadline on Monday, Februar y 6, the Elec tion Committee received five (5) Board of Direc tor's Candidate I nterest Forms/Statements for the 2023 elec tion.

As there were three open seats on the Board and five qualified candidates, a formal elec tion was held. O fficial ballots were mailed to homeowners in good standing in late March.

The Annual Meeting of the members of the Sun City Aliante Homeowners Association was convened on May 10, 2023 at 8 a.m. in the Vista Room of the Community Center. The meeting was then recessed to count the ballots.

The Annual Meeting reconvened at 12:15 p.m. I mmediately following the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, the Board of Direc tors meeting began. The Elec tion results were announced at the end of the Board of Direc tors meeting.

ELECTION COMMITTEE

This year we had three open positions on the Board of Directors to be filled by the election process By the end of business day, on Monday, February 6, 2023, five qualified candidates had completed and submitted the Candidate Interest Forms and Disclosure Statements and formally entered the race. They were incumbents Warren Geller, Nancy Prince and Mark Towers as well as newcomers Joe Caggiano

and Larry Cory

This set the election process in motion putting your Sun City Aliante Election Committee to work. Articles referring to the election would be found in multiple issues of The Breeze leading up to the election as well as numerous eBlasts to inform residents.

A very successful Candidate's Forum, attended by over 60 interested residents, was held on March 11, 2023. At this time, candidates introduced themselves and presented their qualifications. Moderator Mr Steve Vitale asked the candidates pertinent questions to help residents understand the candidate's positions.

The official ballots were mailed to all qualified residential households by the end of March, a n e w b a l l o t b o x w a s p u r c h a s e d , a n d t h e completed ballots were either hand delivered or by USPS by the May 10, 2023 deadline.

And then it was May 10. Election Day had finally arrived and the Election Committee was well prepared. With the help of 25 veteran election residents, the process ran flawlessly Early that afternoon the Annual Meeting was r e c o n v e n e d , t h e e l e c t i o n r e s u l t s w e r e announced and the three incumbents, Warren Geller, Nancy Prince and Mark Towers, were re-elected and officially seated on the Board.

I wanted to share with you the official results of the 2023 Board of Directors Election. The total number of ballots received was 646 with 36 ballot being invalid because they were not properly fi lled out or they could not be identified. The final vote count was Nancy Prince – 527; Warren Geller – 421; Mark Towers – 376; Joe Caggiano – 309; and Larry Cory - 124.

It is often said, “It takes a village.” It could not

have been a success without the help of the 25 resident volunteers, too numerous to thank individually in this article, but you know who you are. My Election Committee, consisting of its able secretary Chris Wickliff and Linda E g g e , K a y D r e w l o , S y l v i e C o u r t e m a r s h , Renee Snodgrass and Mady Shapiro were indispensable. They made my job so much easier. A hardy thank you to our General Manager, Damian Carrasco, and his able a s s i s t a n t , N e l e n i e H e r n a n d e z , f o r t h e i r invaluable input. And last but certainly not least to our staff Debbie Kent, Lifestyle D i r e c t o r, f o r t h e g r e a t b r e a k f a s t , Tr i s h Williamson, The Breeze Editor/Publisher for getting the word out, Facilities Manager, Juan Macias, and his staff for all their work in setting up the room and Office Manager, Lori Daniels, who never said no to my numerous requests.

THANK YOU TO THE ELECTION COMMITTEE FOR A JOB WELL DONE

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the Election Committee for t h e i r w o r k o n a m y r i a d o f t a s k s t h a t culminated in the election of our new Board of Directors (BOD) for 2023-2024.

The Election Committee is responsible for overseeing the Board of Directors Election process, including the counting of the ballots and the certification of election r e s u l t s A s p e c i a l t h a n k y o u t o t h e f o l l o w i n g C o m m i t t e e m e m b e r s : Chairperson, Larry Rothstein; Secretary, Chris Wickliff; Linda Egge; Kay Drewlo; Sylvie Courtemarsh; Renee Snodgrass; and Mady Shapiro.

The election process began with the publication of a Candidate Interest Form and Disclosure Statement as inserts in the January 2023 issue of The Breeze. We informed interested residents the forms must be completed and submitted to the Front Desk no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023.

This year we had three open positions on the Board of Directors for twoyear terms to be filled. As of the 5 p.m. deadline, five (5) qualified candidates had submitted Candidate Interest Forms and Disclosure Statements to the Front Desk and entered the race for election to the 2023 Board of Directors.

The candidates were incumbents Warren Geller, Nancy Prince and Mark Towers and residents, Joe Caggiano and Larry Cory As we received more qualified entrants than open Board positions, we needed to have a formal election.

This set the Election process in motion, and the Election Committee swung into action. The Committee's first order of business was to ensure the candidate bios and photographs were as widely disseminated as possible.

To that end, the Committee placed a poster with photos of the candidates and their bios in a prominent location in the Community Center The Chairperson, Larry Rothstein, also ensured that all the pertinent information related to the election and the candidate bios and photographs were published in The Breeze and eBlast and posted on the Sun City Aliante website.

All of the candidates were on hand for an informative Candidate Forum hosted by the Election Committee on March 11. The event was well received by residents who had an opportunity to learn more about each candidate during the question and answer discussion led by the Forum Moderator, Mr Steve Vitali. Following the Forum, residents enjoyed a light lunch.

The Election Committee also arranged to have a video of the Candidate Forum, created and edited by Richard Lawhead, posted on the Sun City Aliante website for interested residents who were not able to attend to view the entire event online.

The next step was mailing official ballots to all qualified homeowners in late March. Completed ballots were submitted by USPS or hand-delivered to the new ballot box in the Community Center by the deadline of Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 8 a.m.

Election Day finally arrived. The Annual Meeting of the Sun City Aliante Homeowners Association was convened on Wednesday, May 10 at 8 a.m. and the meeting was recessed to count the ballots. The Election Committee's important task was to count a total of 646 ballots. With the help of their team of 25 volunteers, the vote counting process ran smoothly

The Election Chairperson reported the final election results during the BOD meeting. The three incumbents, Warren Geller, Nancy Prince and Mark Towers, were re-elected and officially seated on the Board. (Please see the Election Committee article on page 8 of this issue of The Breeze for a detailed tally of the vote.)

After the BOD meeting, the new Board of Directors held an Organizational Meeting among themselves to determine the Board positions. The new Board voted to keep all members in their current positions: Warren Geller, President; Mark Smith, Vice President; Sonja Bankston-Cullen, Secretary; Nancy Prince, Treasurer; and Directors, Mark Towers, Debbie Matthews and Ed Ernest.

I want to emphasize how much we appreciate the work of the Election Committee, led by Election Chair, Larry Rothstein, in helping us maintain the highest standards possible in the election of our Board of Directors, the volunteer leaders of this amazing community We commend the Election Committee for executing a flawless 2023 election from start to finish.

Hello Residents!

As summer approaches, we anticipate more guests will visit the Community Center The following are a few reminders I would like to highlight. However, t h e s e g u i d e l i n e s a r e a l s o g o o d f o r n e w homeowners, who recently just moved into the community, to know While every effort is made to p r o v i d e c o m f o r t a b l e u s e o f t h e A s s o c i a t i o n facilities by all Residents, Guests, and Visitors, they will not be identical to those available in public accommodations.

• The facility is a semi-private Community Center, for the exclusive use of the Residents and their Guests. The use of all facilities is predicated on a first-come, first-served basis unless reserved with the approval of management.

• Residents and their Guests shall obey all safety rules and shall cease and desist unsafe activities and shall not compromise the health and safety of others by their actions.

• Residents shall not physically or verbally abuse, harass, or accost any other Resident, their Guests, Management, or Staff.

• Residents shall be held responsible for any damage to the Association property and Common Areas resulting from their intentional misconduct or gross negligence.

• Cellular phone usage should be limited as a common courtesy to others. Cellular phones should be placed on vibrate when entering the Community Center

• Smoking is prohibited inside all Association facilities. Smoking is allowed outside the facilities in designated areas only.

• Presentation of an Activity Card is required for access to and use of all Association facilities.

• Proper attire, including upper-body and lower-body garments and footwear are required by all individuals throughout the facility

• The Association will not be responsible for any valuables such as clothing, jewelry, money or any other items left in cars, locker rooms, athletic facilities or in any Common Area. A Lost and Found area is located at the Front Desk, and items will be kept for up to 30 days. If unclaimed, these items will be donated to charity

Our Administrative Offices welcome new and seasoned residents should you have any questions. We encourage you to ask for guidance, especially when you are thinking of changing the exterior of your homes. The following are examples of the prohibited structures and items: Storage buildings or sheds, clothes lines or clothes poles, bamboo or plastic patio shades, plain or plastic construction chicken wire fencing, seed-type bird feeders, bird houses and/or bird baths. The entire list can be found in the Design Guidelines on Section 3.7, page 11.

June is a good month to get out into the yard and make sure your trees, shrubs, desert plants are trimmed properly. Trees should be trimmed 5' from the soil to the first branch and back to your property lines and off the streets and sidewalks; all landscapes should be trimmed back from the mailbox. If you have a neighbor's tree branches or shrubs encroaching onto your property, please send a picture to my email address; so, we can send a courtesy notice letting them know that maintenance is due.

On June 21, join us for a presentation discussing free services for the visually impaired or blind. Learn there are different levels of vision loss, and you do not have to be totally blind to be eligible for free services.

Should I enroll in Medicare when I turn age 65? This is one of the most common questions people ask. Medicare is confusing to say the least. When you turn 65, if you are still employed, there are other considerations. Andrea and Brandon Scott will give you all the answers you need on June 22.

If you want to learn more about the high-tech safely features in your car and how to use them, join AARP on June 28 for a FREE workshop. You will leave with a technology checklist which will offer guidance on desired technologies when shopping for a new car or what features may already be in your car.

If you are heading out on vacation or shopping for insurance for your auto and home, don't miss the AAA seminar on June 29 hosted by Pauline Thoman and Tara Gray of AAA. You may be surprised to learn about all the new services AAA offers.

As I have several college and high school graduates in my life right now, I wanted to share a few GRADUATION FUN FACTS with you.

• Tossing the graduation hat is a tradition signaling the end of the ceremonies and the flight of graduates to whatever awaits them.

• Diplomas were originally made of sheepskin. The words were in ink on paper-thin sheepskin, allowed to dry, then rolled up and tied in a ribbon. Later, they were printed on parchment when printing techniques improved. They ditched the ribbons when graduates complained that curled up diplomas were difficult to frame.

• “Pomp and Circumstance” was originally composed in 1901 by Sir Edward Elgar By 1918, many prominent colleges adapted it as their official graduation accompaniment.

• The commencement cap is called a mortarboard because of its resemblance to a masonry tool of the same name. The tassel was added in the 19th century Protocol requires the tassel to be worn on the right side until a candidate graduates.

Summer has finally arrived and I want to remind you to keep your dogs and pets safe by following our Ordinance No. 3053, which requires animals to be properly sheltered and cared for while being kept outdoors. This summer is going to be a hot one; so, make sure to keep your furry friends in mind!

I am honored to share that once again, Sun City Aliante has been named the Southern Nevada Outstanding Large Association for 2022! This is the 4th time that this award has been won in the past 5 years, which creates a pretty good track record in my book. This year, the competition included Red Rock Homeowner's Association, Sun City Anthem Community Association and Canyon Gate Master Association which are all very steep competition. Congratulations to everyone on the Sun City Aliante team, and congratulations to you, the residents!

Moving forward, I wanted to share a story that is dear to me. Joey Penney, a local fourth grader in the City of North Las Vegas wrote to me with some concerns he had about our city's water conservation efforts. In his letter, he expressed some very thoughtful concerns he had about what our city is doing to help combat the situation of water shortages. I was so impressed that someone so young would take the initiative to reach out to his local government representative; so, I knew I needed to meet him in person and help educate him on what the city is currently doing for water conservation.

I presented Joey with a Good Citizen Award at his school, and visited his class to say how proud I was of Joey for caring about the environment and using his voice to make a difference. I shared with his class all that the city is doing and encouraged all of them to learn more about ways they can use their voices to make a difference, even if it isn't for water conservation. I am so proud to have Joey Penney in my ward and look forward to seeing what the future holds for him as he grows up.

Finally, I want to encourage all of you to keep an eye on all of the fun summer events we have planned for you, your family and friends in the City of North Las Vegas. From movie nights to indoor classes to pool parties, we know you'll find something just right for you and your loved ones to get together and have fun.

I hope all our Mothers had a well-deserved Mother's Day on May 14, as well as respectfully celebrated Armed Forces day on May 20, and Memorial Day on May 29 in remembrance of all our Veterans who make all we have today possible.

In closing, Please remember Flag day on June 14th, which just happens to be my daughter's birthday too:), and I wish all my fellow Dads on June 18 the best Father's Day possible!

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTHLY BULLETIN:

North Las Vegas is said to have one of the lowest crime rates in Las Vegas, especially our ward, Ward 4. With that said, we still need to be proactive in the security of our home and surroundings. The best thing for your home security is to get to know your neighbors. Take a walk or a drive and see what cars or trucks normally park on your street. When you leave your home, always look around to see if there is a vehicle you don't recognize, with someone sitting in the car or just driving slowly It could be someone watching you leave your house. It never hurts to drive around the block to make sure that the car isn't now stopped in front of your house. It's just better to be safe than sorry and the point is to watch for something that seems out of place.

All residents are welcome to join us at our next monthly Neighborhood Watch meeting which will be held on June 14 at 4pm in the Community Center.

The Sun City Aliante Patrol has an opening for the position of Patrol Secretary Any Sun City resident can apply The position does not require the volunteer to be a patrol driver or go through patrol training. The patrol secretary will work closely with the Patrol Leader, Patrol Chairman and Patrol committee. This is a flexible position with no set hours.

Some of the duties and responsibilities include:

· Prepare a quarterly patrol report

· Prepare the monthly schedule

· Forms/record retention

· Attend quarterly meetings and take notes

· Email notices of upcoming events and meetings

· Update and maintain the policy and procedure manual

· Track patrol hours for volunteer recognition

· Help plan volunteer appreciation type events

· Other duties as required

The designation of Tule Springs National Monument came about through the efforts of community partners, and a group of Sun City Aliante residents, inspired by resident Jill DeStefano, who together formed a nonprofit organization called Protectors of Tule Springs (POTS). They worked tirelessly with state, federal and private partners over an eight-year period to save this area (some 23,000 acres) from builders and protect this land now enshrined as a National Park under the protection of Congress.

Join Sandy Croteau on June 13 to learn about the new and exciting projects the Protectors of Tule Springs are now involved in to promote the National Monument.

She will discuss the opening of the new Visitor's Center, the placement of the Monumental Mammoth, new trails, the Mounted Horse Patrol, the B.A.R.K. Ranger Program and how you can get involved and support the Protectors of Tule Springs and much more. This presentation should not be missed!

Are you unable to use public transportation because of a disability? Are you aware of the Regional Transportation Commission's (RTC) services to assist people with disabilities through Paratransit S e r v i c e s ? P l e a s e c h e c k o u t t h i s v a l u a b l e information

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada's (RTC) paratransit service is a shared-ride, door-to-door program available for those who are functionally unable to independently use the RTC's fixed-route system either all of the time, temporarily or under certain circumstances. All paratransit customers are eligible and encouraged to use fixed- route services. Paratransit I.D. card holders can ride any fixed-route or express route free of charge.

Eligibility - You may be eligible for the service if, because of a disability:

• You cannot independently travel to/from fixed route stops.

• You could use an accessible fixed route vehicle, but the route that would be used is not accessible.

• You cannot independently navigate the system even though you can board a bus.

Eligibility for RTC ADA Paratransit Services is not a medical decision or something that can be prescribed by your physician. It is primarily a transportation decision. All who request eligibility for paratransit service must be certified, which may entail an in-person interview and possible functional assessment. Each applicant is evaluated independently based on

ADA requirements.

Certification

• To begin the process, call 702-676-1815 and request an RTC Paratransit Application. (You will receive a self-addressed envelope to return the completed application by mail.)

• Please wait 7 days from date you return the form and call 702-6761815 to determine whether they will require you to have an in-person evaluation.

• Ride On-Demand Program allows customers to schedule a ride within minutes, with as little as a 5-minute wait-time for a pick-up. Sylvia Ross stepped down from the Chair position with Hjordy Wagner and Freda Porter-Katz beginning their roles as Co-chairs. Beginning in September, there will be an annual $10 dues to help cover costs of plates, decorations and overages at the monthly meetings. The usual $5 per meeting will continue to support the meals, with the exception of September, when everyone will pay only the $10 dues charge. Meetings will continue through the summer; no money will be charged for the summer meals, which will all be Potlucks.

The Classy Chefs' next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the Vista Room. The club usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month. However, the July meeting is rescheduled to Tuesday, July 11 because of the July 4th holiday. The August meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 1. Do you want to learn how to Line Dance or learn new dances? Join members at Club Dial. They teach Line Dancing for beginners on Saturday morning from 10 to 10:30 a.m. On Monday evening, there is an Intermediate Class from 6 - 7 p.m. and Advanced classes are held on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 am. So come and join Club DIAL for dancing, exercise and fun.

Club DIAL is hosting a Sock Hop Social on Saturday, June 17 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Vista Room. As always, it's fun to dress according to the theme of the event. This social is free to residents; guests have to pay a $5.00 fee. All residents are invited; you do not have to belong to Club Dial. Everyone must sign in at the Front Desk.

Refreshments are allowed. Absolutely no alcohol beverages are permitted at this event. So come enjoy dancing, socializing, meet new friends and have fun.

Similar to the frequent information you may have seen and heard regarding the ongoing popularity of pickleball, SCAL Pickleball Club membership continues to grow as new residents come and learn how to play!

Weekly lessons are on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm. Based on interest, the lessons will continue through July Evening play is not restricted to new players. If you already know how to play but would like to simply play in the evenings, call a friend and come join us. Come enjoy playing in the evenings and enjoy watching the sky change colors as the sun disappears behind Mt. Charleston.

SENIORS WITH WARM HEARTS

Seniors with Warm Hearts would like to give a big THANK YOU to the many members of our community who participated in their recent raffle at the Spring Arts & Crafts Fair. The monies raised will help to support their drives through the end of the year

With that said, from June 5 through June 13, Senior with Warm Hearts will hold their first Animal Rescue Drive to benefit the Nevada SPCA The Nevada SPCA operates on a donation-only basis and any help provided by the community is to aid in the care of the animals in their shelter

Here are some of items needed:

Dog/Puppy dry or wet food, Cat/Kitten dry or wet food, Puppy/Kitten replacement formula, Wee Wee Pads, Dog/Cat treats, Toys, gently used towels, dish soap, laundry detergent, gift cards. PLEASE, NO ITEMS WEIGHING MORE THAN 6 LBS. Please consider donating to help these animals in need. A box will be provided in the lobby area where you can drop off your donations.

In conjunction with their drive, Lori Heeren of the Nevada SPCA will be the guest speaker at their next meeting on Thursday, June 15 at 11 a.m. in the Activity Room. At that time, the group will present Lori with the items collected from their Animal Rescue Drive. If you want to learn more about the Nevada SPCA and their group, new members are always welcome. SONGSTERS

The Sun City Aliante Songsters are a non-profit chorus of 40 seniors who love to sing and/or play instruments. They performed “The Music in my Life” “spring concert on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 in the Vista Room.

Under the direction of Lorraine Zanello, in their spring colors, the Songsters started out with “Everything's Coming up Roses, followed by “The Music in my Life.” They also sang “I Can't Help Myself,” “Puttin' on the Ritz,” “As Time Goes By,” and other songs along with a medley of America's Classic Television Themes medley which had the audience snapping to the Adam's Family and other tunes.

The Aliante Treble Makers (ATMs – a cappella group of six Songster members) performed “You've Got a Friend in Me” from Walt Disney's Toy Story A foursome sang “It Had to Be You,” and a Trio sang “Java Jive”.

It was Jane Mehta's, the Songsters' pianist last concert. She spoke about her experiences with the Songsters from 2010 and played “If Ever I Should Leave You.” She did a spectacular job accompanying the choir on the keyboard with assistance from Bonnie Osborne as her page-turner Rod Stark kept the rhythm for the choir with his percussion talents and his 12-string guitar Kevin Smith accompanied the choir on his trombone with “Blue Moon,” along with Jim Ohlsen who strummed away on three songs on his bass guitar Kevin Smith also played his ukulele for the “Over the Rainbow” duet.The Songsters, once again, donated $500 of their proceeds to the Del Sol Academy of Performing Arts Choir, directed by Jordan Madagame, as they are raising money to sing at Carnegie Hall. Thank you to the audiences for supporting the Songsters year after year for our concerts, we love and appreciate you!

The Sun City Aliante Songsters will be off for the summer and will resume practice in September 2023. UKULELE STRUMMERS

Summer is here already! It's the perfect time of year to stay inside and play ukulele. The Ukulele Strummers are having a great time every Sunday afternoon playing our favorite tunes. We hope you can come and join us!

Ukulele classes are offered as follows:

• Beginning Ukulele: 12:30-1:30 p.m., Sunday This class is for beginning ukulele players who know the basic 5 chords.

• Advanced Ukulele: 1:30-2:30 p m , Sunday This class is for intermediate players who have attended ukulele classes and know ten or more basic chords. We will learn one or two new songs a week.

• Fundamentals of Ukulele: For students who have never played ukulele. You will learn the 5 basic chords and play songs which use those chords. This class is offered on an as needed basis at various times. Please call me about availability

We use Pete McCarty's August 2023 free book of 450 songs for most of our music. If you are interested in joining us, please stop by a class or give me a call.

VETERAN'S AUXILIARY

April's Veteran Auxiliary meeting focused on discussions of several upcoming projects and events. The Auxiliary now offers a New Member Program to help orient incoming members and educate them on all of the available service projects. The first New Member Welcome was held on April 10 and was very successful. The next Welcome will be held in November.

Blanket workshops are now being held after meetings for the VA patient lap blanket project. The Auxiliary is looking at a November delivery, just prior to the holidays. Ideas for a new Auxiliary banner were presented and the new banner was ordered.

Plans were in full swing for the Veterans & Auxiliary BBQ held on May 13. In conjunction with the BBQ, the Auxiliary planned an Opportunity Table Fundraiser and promoted the collection of donated items. Additionally, collection was ongoing for snacks and personal items for the Military A p p r e c i a t i o n M o n t h p r o j e c t t o s u p p o r t t h e y o u n g a i r m e n i n t h e Nellis/Creech dorms. Those donations were scheduled for May 17 to be distributed on Armed Forces Day, May 20.

The last meeting of the Auxiliary before summer break was held on May 16. EXCITING THINGS HAPPENING IN NLV

S u n C i t y A l i a n t e R e s i d e n t Eloise Turney recently joined the City of North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown and the City Council for a preview of all the exciting things taking shape in North Las Vegas!

M a y o r G o y n e s - B r o w n , a native of North Las Vegas and a resident for the past 60 years, delivered the 2023 State of the City address on March 23, 2023, at Aliante Resort, showcasing the City of North Las Vegas' historic achievements, unprecedented progress and innovative momentum.

During her address Mayor Goynes-Brown noted, her father, Theron Goynes, was the first Black man on the North Las Vegas City Council, a position he held for 20 years. “My father ran for Mayor of North Las Vegas in 1997 and lost the election. It took another 15 years before another African-American tried for the Mayor's seat,” she said. “Today, I stand here proudly and humbly to say that history has been made!”

In outlining her goals, she said, “My focus as Mayor will be on the people of this City, ensuring they have a great quality of life with equal opportunities for success, good schools, a solid support system, top-notch parks and safe neighborhoods.”

Mayor Goynes-Brown also highlighted the City's financial stability and stunning gains in economic development and job creation, with two of every three Southern Nevada companies incentivized by the state choosing to locate in North Las Vegas. The City's attractiveness to new industries has resulted in:

• 63,533 new jobs with an average hourly wage of $33.31

• $438 million dollars of capital investment

• $36 billion dollars in economic impact

• $5 billion healthcare campus in the City's Job Creation Zone

• Redevelopment of 19 acres in downtown Lake Mead/Las Vegas Boulevard corridor

The State of the City address also featured initiatives focused on improving the quality of life for the residents of the City of North Las Vegas. Among the quality-of-life initiatives highlighted were:

• Investment in new parks and revitalization of mature parks

• Programming to increase attendance and family engagement at public schools

• Cultivation of Restaurant Row, with 24 new dining options in the past three years

• I n c r e a s e d h o u s i n g s t o c k a n d p o l i c i e s d e s i g n e d t o k e e p homeownership attainable and affordable

• New police and fire stations, increased public safety through diverse recruiting and robust community policing

• Dedicated Veterans Resource Center and much more.

Eloise shared these comments about the State of City 2023. “I was energized by the wonderful turnout; some 700 people attend the Mayor's State of the City address and luncheon. I was excited about all the new projects she discussed including new Fortune 500 companies, new roads and community improvements. I left with the feeling that I am very proud to be a North Las Vegas resident,” said Eloise Turney
