Aliante Classy Chefs

Club Dial

Do you want to learn how to Line Dance or other new dances? Come join the members of Club DIAL. They teach Beginner Line Dancing on Saturdays from 10-10:30 a.m. They also offer an Intermediate Class on Mondays from 6-7 p.m., an Advanced Class on Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and an Advanced Plus Class on Wednesdays from 6 – 7 p.m., which offers new country line dances. Join them for dancing, exercise and fun.

The Aliante Classy Chefs held their most recent meeting on June 6. While several of their members are gone during the summer months, the remaining chefs had a potluck, with good attendance and good food.

Beginning in September, there will be an annual $10 dues to help cover costs of plates, decorations and overages at the monthly meetings. The usual $5 per meeting will continue to support the meals, with the exception of Septemb er, which will be the $10 dues charge only Meetings will continue through the summer with reduced participation, no money charged and the meals will be potlucks.

The Classy Chefs' next meeting will be Tuesday, July 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the Vista Room. The club usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month. However, the July meeting is being delayed because of Independence Day holiday August will be the usual time and fall on Tuesday, August 1. Book Club

Ceramics

July 4th brings fireworks of excitement to the C e r a m i c s C l u b T h e y h a v e f r i e n d l y instructors and members who are here to help. Members enjoy the little things; one day we may look back and discover they were the big things in our life. The club offers inventive choices of greenware and bisque to purchase and glaze.

The Ceramics Club meets on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m.- noon in Craft R o o m # 3 N e w m e m b e r s a r e a l w a y s welcome. Club Dial is hosting a Roaring 20s Dance Social on Saturday, July 15 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Vista Room. As always, it's fun to dress according to the theme of the event, and you do not have to belong to Club Dial. Everyone must sign in at the Front Desk. Feel free to bring your own refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages. Come enjoy dancing, socializing, and meeting new people and have fun.

Forget Me Knots

The Forget-Me-Knots were established in 2004 and, since then, have created countless hats, scarves, lap blankets, sweaters, and baby sweaters/hats for donation to Veteran's hospitals, Neo-natal units, USA Help, Fisher House and Foster Children of Clark County.

The members of this group are ready to greet you with a warm welcome and teach you to knit or crochet if you don't already know how They have plenty of supplies to get you started.The group meets in the Community Center from 1-4 p.m. every Monday For more information, contact Collette Stickney at 702-373-2163 or Mady Shapiro at 702-399-5347. Pickleball Club

On May 25, fourteen Sun City A l i a n t e P i c k l e b a l l C l u b m e m b e r s s p e n t t h e w a r m sunny morning playing at the courts at Sun City Summerlin. The cross-town mixer between the two clubs was filled with fun and challenging games, l o t s o f l a u g h t e r a n d o p p o r t u n i t i e s t o m a k e n e w a c q u a i n t a n c e s . T h e S u m m e r l i n C l u b w i l l b e invited to our courts in the fall.

Poker Club

CONGRATULATIONS to Bill Morganwho got the hand that most players dream about - a Royal Flush! Playing limit Texas Hold'em, Mike got a royal flush in hearts and won the hand, the pot, and the applause of fellow players. The odds of getting a royal flush are 1 out of 650,000 hands. It is really that difficult. Many players play for years without getting a royal flush!

• Wednesday at 4 p m - Limit Texas Hold'em with 0.50/$1 and $0.20/0.40 stakes.

The Seniors with Warm Hearts Annual School Supplies & Necessities Drive to assist needy students in our community will run from July 5 through July 19. You are encouraged to donate school supplies for grades K through 12.

The supplies will be donated to underprivileged children and teens at Street Teens and S.A.F.E. House. In addition to the school supplies, they are also requesting necessity items for both teen girls and boys, such as, new socks, new underwear (any size), deodorant, shampoo, soap, body lotion, lip balm, feminine hygiene products, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Travel size toiletries are also accepted.

Please drop off your items at the School Bus Donation Box located in the Community Center near the display cases. As in the past, your generosity will truly be appreciated and this will enable us to help these students in need.

The next scheduled club meeting will be held on Thursday, July 20 at 11 a.m. in the Activity Room, where members will sort and organize the items donated for distribution. Songsters

The Aliante Songsters, a group of 40 talented singers and musicians are taking a summer break after a successful Spring Concert in April. The group will gather once again in September to start rehearsing for their Winter Concert.

Songster's next concert will be December 15 and 16. Mark your calendars. Rehearsals will start early in September. This is an update on the Technology Club's most popular topic – Cutting the (Cable) Cord. The trend is clear - Streaming has overtaken Cable because of the expense. You Tube TV is a popular streaming service to replace cable. Come to the Technology Club meeting on Thursday, August 3, 2023 to learn more. We will demonstrate You Tube TV; so, you can see why You Tube TV is the most popular streaming alternative to cable. Depending upon your viewing habits, you could have the same programming at lower cost ($$$).

Ukulele Strummers

Happy July from the Sun City Aliante Ukulele Strummers! Summer weather has finally arrived in Vegas! It's the perfect time of year to stay inside and play ukulele. The Ukulele Strummers are having a great time every Sunday afternoon playing our favorite tunes. We hope you can come and join us.

Ukulele classes are offered as follows:

• Beginning Ukulele: 12:30-1:30 p.m., Sundays.. This class is for beginning ukulele players who know the basic five chords.

• Advanced Ukulele: 1:30-2:30 p.m., Sundays. This class is for intermediate players who have attended ukulele classes and know 10 or more basic chords. We will learn one or two new songs a week and play songs we know

• Fundamentals of Ukulele: For students who have never played ukulele. You will learn the 5 basic chords and play songs which use those chords. This class is offered on an as needed basis. Please call me about availability

We use Pete McCarty's 2023 free book of 450 songs for most of our music. If you are interested in joining us please stop by a class or give me a call. Happy summer and happy Strumming!

VETERAN'S AUXILIARY

The Veterans Auxiliary wrapped up their year with a flurry of activity

In the week prior to t h e i r M a y m e e t i n g , m e m b e r s d e l i v e r e d a large donation of paper products and breakfast i t e m s t o H e l p U S A ( t r a n s i t i o n a l h o u s i n g for homeless veterans).

T h e y h e l d t h e i r l a s t regular meeting before their summer break on Tuesday, May 16. After the meeting, Auxiliary members stuffed bags and loaded donations for delivery to Nellis for their military support connection to distribute to young airmen in the dorms and military families.

On Saturday, May 13, they held a successful BBQ for the community with the Veterans Club. The Auxiliary would like to thank all the Sun City Aliante residents who came to the BBQ and supported the Veterans and Auxiliary In doing so, the Auxiliary was able to earn money from items donated for their Opportunity Table. Their hope is that all the attending residents enjoyed their food and socializing. Additionally, the Auxiliary is grateful for all those who donated to the Active Military Donation Box to support the effort toward Nellis & Creech.

The Auxiliary suspends regular meetings during the summer, although there are still activities behind the scenes. Members are busy making lap blankets for VA patients this fall. VETERAN'S CLUB

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are enjoying your summer For those of us who are still in town, we hope you are getting together with your close family and friends. The Veteran's Club is still dark and will become active again within the next two months. (September 19, 6 p.m. in the Vista Room. )

The club continues putting flags up to represent military holidays and our great military veterans and family members who have served in other capacities.

For those of you who wish to purchase a brick for the Veterans Club Memorial Monument, please contact Sy Nielson at 702-234-9183. It is a wonderful way to honor those who have served and those who are currently serving.
