From the Producer of Chesterfield’s ORIGINAL Community Magazine

Continuing an 18 Year Tradition of Community Magazines in Chesterfield • New Name • Same Great Content • Fresh New Design • Serving Local Charities

An 18-Year Tradition Welcome to the Spring/Summer edition of TimeOff- the WHAT’S UP guide! Yes, our name has changed, but we are still the same magazine you’ve read and trusted for years. We will continue to be your “What’s Happening” or now “WHAT’S UP” event oriented publication that has made us so popular these last18 years. In case you haven’t heard, Gateway Creative recently announced that we are now REGIONAL! Although we’ve been publishing in both Chesterfield and St. Charles for many years we have now joined the two magazines under the TimeOff trademark. Along with our ‘sister’ magazine, TimeOff in St. Charles, we now reach more than 100,000 people throughout the region. TimeOff- the WHAT’S UP guide is also partnered with several local charities- Wings of Hope and Friends of Kids with Cancer.

Finally...

In this issue you will find lots of fun things to do this summer in the Chesterfield/West County area. Check out our complete summer concert schedule on pages 20-22. It takes you from May through October. Most of these concerts are free and you can bring your own food and beverages. Many also offer food vendors, food trucks and more festivities including fireworks at times! It’s a fun time for the whole family. Please remember to vote for your favorite West County restaurant on page 42. Or vote online at timeoffmag.com. Winners will be announced in our Jul/Aug issue and you can win a $50 dining certificate at one of the local restaurants. Our fashion article on page 28 gives some tips from local boutiques on ‘What’s Hot’ this summer. And be sure to check out the dining section for wine happenings and some of the best restaurants in town! We hope you enjoy this issue. Thank you!

These students thought a fundraiser like “Hats on Day” was a fantastic way to show their support for their friend. Sadly, before being able to participate in the first “Hats on Day”, this student lost his battle and passed away. His classmates decided to continue promoting Hats on Day opportunities in memory of their friend. Friends of Kids with Cancer is honored to receive the proceeds of Hats on Days fundraisers to continue providing the Educational,

MO’ Cowbell participants sure do get MO’ for their registration: a long-sleeved technical shirt, car sticker, sports bag, course entertainment, water and aid stations, a firstclass finisher’s medal and of course the commemorative cowbell! Circle of Charity:

Wings of Hope - Serving Mankind

I

t’s definitely not all work and no play for the dedicated volunteers and staff of the local charity,Wings of Hope. The lists of on-going humanitarian projects around the globe, along with the hundreds of patients flown year-round for specialized medical care, might give the impression that we are all work, all the time! Not so! On Saturday, February 14th, we all came together with a few hundred of our very special donors and supporters to celebrate the year’s successes and raise money for the continuation of our all-important Medical Relief &

Melissa and Justin Dancing at the Dinner Auction - 2/14/15.

Wings of Hope has made it possible for them to get the medical care needed to move forward with their lives. Melissa had to have part of her right leg amputated due to complications following heart failure while playing volleyball with friends. Justin was born without three appendages, both arms and a leg.Their honest portrayal of their situation, along with the gratitude both expressed for the help they’ve gotten, and their ‘never give up’ attitudes made this truly the most poignant part of the evening. The evening concluded with music and dancing to the sounds of The Fabulous Motown Revue. It was a great celebration of a very successful year for the MAT program at Wings of Hope.We are extremely grateful to our generous donors, supporters and volunteers who make it possible for us to continue this important work.Thank you everyone!

“A Night for Miracles” Air Transport (MAT) program. The Khorassan Ballroom at the Chase Park Plaza was transformed into a beautiful and romantic setting for our annual dinner and auction. The theme this year was, “A Night for Miracles-Hope Is Where the Heart Is” and was a perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Part of the evening’s entertainment included the guests doing silent bidding for a wide assortment of trips, events and themed baskets, as well as a healthy competition for special items during the oral auction. Two of our current patients and their families were our honored guests for the evening. Melissa, age 23, and Justin, age 7, spoke to the crowd, relating their personal experiences dealing with significant physical challenges and how

BACK COVER FEATURE SealMaxxPlus offers customers the opportunity to never seal their wood or concrete surfaces again. SealMaxxPlus is a service applied process of cleaning and sealing wood and concrete internally. The process is two days with a day in the middle for drying purposes. The initial application of sealant is applied following a deep cleaning of the wood or concrete. The cleaning removes all previous oil based stains that may have been applied. While wet the wood/concrete sealant is applied and carried into the substrate by the rinse water. After drying for 24 hours the wood may be lightly sanded prior to the application of the moisture barrier sealant. This silicone based product seals the wood and concrete for several years to come. The wood sealant can contain a cedartone stain to give the wood a very natural cedar finish. Concrete sealant, for the most part, is applied as a clear product.

SealMaxxPlus Never Seal Your Deck or Concrete Again!

Visit www.sealmaxxplus.com for additional information concerning either process. You may request a no obligation, no cost consultation from the web site or by calling 636.294.6299. SealMaxxPlus is an A rated Accredited Business by the BBB and a proud member of the Home Builders Association of Eastern Missouri.

PM BBQ Smoked Chicken, Pesto, Bacon Panini

his is one of Amy Ruck’s recipes that the Ruck & Lamers families (owners of PM BBQ) use for any leftover chicken that they have. It would also be great with a pound of freshly pulled chicken from PM BBQ. This recipe can be made with smoked turkey as well. The panini can be made ahead of time and served at room temperature for a picnic or at the lake. If a panini is not available, this can be made by grilling the sandwich in an oiled skillet, with another skillet or a brick wrapped in foil on top to weigh the bread down and fuse the flavors together. PM BBQ is located in Chesterfield Valley at 103 Chesterfield Towne Centre. 636-536-1966 www.pmbbq.com. It is locally owned and operated by Paul Lamers & Mark Ruck. They have won numerous awards for best BBQ in town. Try it out soon for some delicious real hickory smoked BBQ. They offer dine in, carry out and catering services.

RESTAURANT

Walnut Grill By Pat Catanzaro, Publisher Cedar Plank Salmon

Kirk and Eric Vogel, Owners of Walnut Grill

W

alnut Grill is a welcome surprise to the West County area. It offers delicious American cuisine with a diverse, chef-driven menu and a modern, inviting atmosphere. It is the perfect destination to bring a date, the family, or come with friends. Walnut Grill has delicious food, energetic service, upscale ambiance designed to please every diner. The restaurant is owned by the Vogel brothers, Eric and Kirk and the concept was developed by Kirk in PA which has four restaurants. The Ellisville location is the only one in St. Louis. The restaurant creates two different experiences. The comfortable, large bar area with lots of flat screen TV’s has a completely different feel than the restaurant. The dining room has lots of separate areas- a combination concept-with each space having its own lighting, music and design. Its like two restaurants in one. The cuisine is creative with signature dishes such as the Apricot-glazed Cedar Plank Salmon, Parmesan encrusted chicken and gnocchi, Thai pork mac ‘n cheese, a Black Angus charbroiled filet and Surf-n-turf. There are more than 17 entrees ranging from pastas, to a mixed grill- steak, tuna and salmon combo, to chicken spiedini. Walnut Grill
